The thinking seems to be Cedi Osman could be a young, replacement version of Mike Dunleavy with Cedi's improved/improving 3-point shooting.  ... he's very young; he'd only be 22 if we landed him... I don't know if we'd need him to be a star so long as he could become a reliable catch 'n shoot 3-point weapon.  I've loved Mike's career and was excited to obtain him from the Bulls even after his major injury last year, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to have much left in the tank.  His legs have little lift which is why he's not hitting his treys and can't crack Lue's rotation.

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

As an 80's man and Cavs fan, I LOVE this!

Guys it's looking like Stella aka K Love is getting his groove back. So good to see the chemistry still coming along. Scary to think the potential of the Cavs big three has yet to be realized.

Props to Tyrone Lue. I honestly can't envision Coach Blatt having the same level of success.

Great win over Golden State.  Cavs beat them, featuring  the great Kevin Durant while we were without JR, an important component... Looks like the Cavs may be in their heads.

Cavaliers hung photo of LeBron James' game-sealing finals block outside the Warriors' locker room

Did you hear the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals last season after the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead? Well, the Cavaliers were worried the Warriors had missed that bit of news, so they left this door open right down the hall from the visiting locker room before the two played in Cleveland on Christmas day.

But hold up, wait. What’s that on LeBron’s finger?

I have always wondered but i am not sure. Maybe someone here knows for sure. In game 7 against Golden State when the 4th quarter clock winded down to :00 and the celebration started,  One of of Cav's players goes running (flying) across the court towards the other end in celebration. Who is that player or Who is that person.  I am thinking it is James Jones. Does anyone know for sure?

^It was Dahntay Jones who I thought was still in town.  Cavs could use him right now with JR out.  Not sold on Liggins.

Thanks.    Are you sure?  To me it seemed like it was a tall lanky skinny guy. That's why I thought it was James Jones. Does anyone have the clip?

It was definitely Dahntay.  Fastest he ran all year.  I liked him a lot, especially his toughness.  But I'll take Liggins, who is much younger and not past his prime.  Dahntay wasn't giving us anything Liggins can't.

Idk RJeff is past his prime and is making it happen. I think they might be showcasing Liggins as well as McRae.

RJeff is a better player than Dahntay.  Always has been.  Him being past his prime doesn't mean he can't contribute.  Dahntay provided very little for us last year.  It came down to him or Liggins in camp.  All things being equal, you keep the young guy with the upside and room for improvement.  Liggins was once thought of as a good prospect.  And the proof is in the pudding.... the Cavs have played well with him filling in for JR.

Twitter reaction last night from around the NBA was: Just cancel the regular season and go straight to the Warriors-Cavs championship series.

I say bring Griffin over to the Browns. Why not?

The Cavs are actually going to get Korver for Dunleavy and a pick. Just blows my mind. When healthy it's Love/Irving/LeBron/TT/JR with Shump/Korver/Frye/RJ riding the bench. Wow. Will be interesting to see if GSW counters.

Awesome pick up, but let's not be fooled into thinking this is Korver from two years ago.  He's 35 and, even in his 20's, was an awful defender.  If everyone is healthy, it is possible he is not even in the 7-8 man rotation should we return to the Finals.  It may depend on who has the hot hand.

Korver is shooting 41% beyond the arc this season. He shot 49% in 2015. I can live with that. I don't really care about his other stats (which haven't fallen off much either) because he won't be asked to play 30 minutes like he is in Atlanta. Just hang out at the 3-pt. line and wait for crazy open looks. I could see his 10pt. average go up with less minutes played. We'll see.

Do you really think they're bringing Korver over for defense? I know they still need a Delly replacement but I don't think Griffin was looking at Korver in that way.

Why would I think he is being brought over for defense?  That would make absolutely no sense.  Clearly, this is a move to help on the offensive end deliberately at the expense of the defensive end.  He will be our worst wing defender by a long shot (no pun intended).  My only observation was that when we get deep into the playoffs and the rotation is shortened to 7-8 guys, he may not be in it.  It's a good problem to have.

Also consider that he has trouble getting looks with the Hawks now that everyone figured them out.  He typically has a hand in his face and teams switch on screens specific to where he goes.  In 2015, they were a much more complete team and if you zoned in on Korver, someone else was going to burn you.  He is going to a situation now where he will likely get many open looks because of Kyrie and Brons ability to get to the rack.

Defensively, that could be an issue.  He will certainly have to come off the bench in the finals and hide him on Ian Clarke or something.  no way he can hang with Klay or Dray

Korver was never a D guy, and at 35, he's much slower.  But really these are no worries because of the Big 3, TT, Shumpert, etc have his D back... Kyle can still obviously drain the long ball reliably, and that's important ... However, we will likely use Korver in a limited role.  He's strictly catch-n'-shoot, which is something Dunleavy just can't do anymore due to his age and back surgery last year.  I don't think Korver will revolutionize our bench offense the way Frye did last year, but he definitely can be spot weapon in our championship drive ...

Smith will be back in the playoffs.  Assuming he continues to keep his legs in the shape in the next 2-3 months, he will be first line in the Finals.  This is just depth, we couldn't throw Liggins and McRae out there in the finals

Have you guys actually watched Korver play this year? He's not slow and is still asked to do a lot in Atlanta. He averages 28 minutes. He's not James Jones, Dunleavy or Birdman.

Look at his 36min Per stats here:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/korveky01.html

He's as good as he's been at any time since going to Atlanta. That's why this is great trade. He'll be a key player coming down the stretch.

Liggins will continue to start until JR gets healthy.

He's strictly catch-n'-shoot

Depending on how you define catch-n-shoot, I disagree.  He has one of the best (if not the best in NBA history) pull up three point shots in transition.  He also moves very well without the ball in the half court, coming off screens a la Ray Allen.  Point being, his job hopefully won't be limited to standing in a corner and waiting for the ball to swing his way.  Any combo of Smith/Korver, Smith/Frye, Korver/Frye on the court at the same time is going to create massive driving lanes to the basket for LbJ and Ky.

I agree 100% with your last paragraph. He's going to do more than stand around. He's still shooting 50% from two. He creates shots for himself outside the paint and inside the arc. He'll be a different dynamic coming off the bench.

^I hope you guys are right, obviously.

^I hope you guys are right, obviously.

He's not Kevin Durant.

But off the bench he's as good as anyone GSW or SA or Toronto has.

Remember when Shaun Livingston came off the bench and was just dropping shots left and right in Game 1 of the Finals and the Cavs really had no counterpunch. This is a guy who can answer those shots and then some.

Obviously open to interpretation, but his advanced stats show him as a plus defender the past 5 years (with negative offensive numbers past 2 years).

Interesting.  He's been on some good defensive teams over that timeframe - Chicago and Atlanta.  I'm sure he understands the concepts of team defense.  I was more worried about his individual, on the ball defense.

Yeah I think that's a pretty accurate interpretation. He should work well with the Cavs I would think, especially with the Lebron, Shump, Liggins, Frye second unit.

^AB's NBA future is on fumes.

^thus further confirming why Chris Grant is no longer a GM.  What an awful selection. Granted that was an awful draft talent-wise...they missed on the Greek freak, cj mccullom, Steven Adams and KCP.  Granted they would have all been traded for love, likely. It actually makes me happy that we had Bennett in this scenario, feels like a love-wiggins straight up. Imagine if we traded wiggins- Giannis.  Of course it's all worth he ring, but that's some talent being thrown around

^Yeah, Grant often wanted to be the smartest guy in the room with his draft picks.  Anthony Bennett was certainly one of the ball & chains on Grant's future here. Brooklyn may have been AB's last chance saloon in the NBA.  I hope not; he seems like a nice kid with a lot of physical tools but just cannot seem to connect with the sport.

That draft (2103) actually ended up being pretty good. I think the only real duds (besides Bennett, who can't even see dud from where he is) in the first seventeen picks were Trey Burke and Ben Mclemore. Borderline all stars Rudy Goebert and Gorgui Dieng were also taken later in the first round.

As far as Grant goes, yikes. He basically missed on every young star currently in the league. Kawhi, Klay, Drummond, Lillard, Giannis, Goebert, McCollum. Good at making deals with Gilbert's money, horrrrrrrrrrible at talent evaluation. Even Wiggins might only be the fifth best player in his draft.

^Korver now free to report to Cavs' practices; bench.

LeBron's movie 2 years ago applies to the Cavs, currently, because they're a total train wreck.  LeBron is playing like he's both burned out and pissed off.  We're getting little from the bench; missing free throws an absurd pace; silly/lazy turnovers and the total inability to get stops when needed.

Ugly. I thought this would be a "fun" regular season, but it's almost as hard to watch as last year, if not harder.

He needs to take a couple weeks off, like he did last season.

Not a bad idea.

They've gone through the same funk around the same time each of the past two seasons.  I'm not overly worried.  But I do think they are dearly missing Delly and those momentum shifting hustle plays he would make during close games.  If they add anyone else, it better be a defender.

Cavs sign former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams to 10-day contract

The Cavs are signing forward Derrick Williams to a 10-day contract, cleveland.com confirmed.

Williams, 25, was waived by the Miami Heat this week. He's 6-8 and was the No. 2 pick of the 2011 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Cavs are his sixth team.

A source said Williams will sign later today and is en route to Oklahoma City, where he could play for the Cavs tonight. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.5 rebounds for the Heat in 25 games this season.

NBA Star Kyrie Irving’s ‘Uncle Drew’ Commercials to Get Film Treatment

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Kyrie Irving is hoping for a big screen slam dunk.

Sources tell Variety that Temple Hill Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to Irving’s “Uncle Drew” Pepsi commercials. “Skiptrace” scribe Jay Longino is set to write the script and Irving is attached to reprise the role of Drew.

Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and John Fischer will produce the film, described as a love letter to basketball. The original Pepsi Max advertisements showed Irving, in full make-up, playing a 70-plus-year-old man, Drew, who would show up to pick-up basketball games and school kids half his age, while also reminiscing about how the game used to be played.

Fischer was a big fan of the online shorts and showed them to Bowen thinking they could possibly turn it into a movie. But it was Longino’s pitch that really got them excited about pursuing the rights for a feature film.

“Marty and I had recently sold a pitch to Fox 2000, so he and John reached out and asked if I was interested in bringing them a take,” Longino told Variety. “Looking back, I think I tried to play it cool with them on the phone and told them that I’d think about it. But the truth is, I was pretty fired up. As both a former player and a die-hard fan, this truly is a dream project for me.”

Described as “Blues Brothers” in the pick-up basketball world, Longino’s pitch shows Drew and his old squad on the legendary Rucker Park basketball court in Harlem. Years later Drew is talked into returning to the courts to compete in a tournament and goes on a road trip to round the old squad up to play.

Cavs sign former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams to 10-day contract

He was the PF from Arizona a third of the fan base wanted us to take #1 over Irving back in the 2011 draft.  There were rumors that he was Dan Gilbert's guy, but Grant picked Irving anyway (thankfully).  He turned into a journeyman, never living up to the hype.  We now have on our roster the 1, 2, and 4 picks from the 2011 draft.
