^This is mainly getting teams an abbreviated short season and an option for some teams to play themselves into the playoffs and back in game shape. I suspect some older players are going to get injured from this intense end of season playoff schedule.

Then it's a good thing Kevin Love isn't being allowed out there!  ?

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

I hope I live long enough to see another championship here.

On this date four years ago there were more people within the city limits of Cleveland than any other time in history.  By a large margin.

Had the Indians won the World Series a few months later, that number might have been eclipsed.

Possibly, though the weather may  have played a factor.  It was perfect the day of the parade.  Provided one stayed hydrated.

the cavs have the 5th pick and i haven’t looked in awhile but am pleased to see mocks continue showing them picking obi toppin:

Toppin scares me. We already have the worst defense in the league and he won’t help. And he’s 2-3 years older than most of the other top prospects. I think he’ll stick in the league but I don’t see him helping the Cavs (really setting myself up to get doxxed here.) This is kind of a boring read but shows how age correlated to success in the NBA draft (tl;dr, it’s better to draft young generally).

While this draft is considered lacking in top tier talent, there are stars taken in every draft, and plenty of busts at the top of “good” drafts (see 2014 draft). But there are a good number of athletic wings and front court players who should be available at 5. I’d have my eye on Isaac Okoro (wing defensive specialist with shooting concerns), Devin Vassel (supposedly a notch below Okoro on defense but a knockdown shooter at SF), Demi Avdija (Israeli playmaking wiz SF with some serious FT issues), and Onyeka Okongwu (athletic freak center who put up great stats at USC and could be a defensive anchor). I think I would be more psyched about Okongwu if we didn’t already have so much $ committed to the front court. But the Cavs have to add talent wherever they can find it so he might be my choice anyways even if he’s stuck behind Drummond and TT (assuming he re-signs) for the time being.

For anybody interested who doesn’t already know it, I think this is the most interesting mock draft site. Lots of good info and a deep dive into the analytics of each prospect:

per the mocks, avdija wont be available for the cavs to consider. okoro, vassell and okongru likely would be.

i would still pick obi over them. he's not too bright, immediate red shirt over bad grades, tried to go pro, but whoops forgot you need an agent, etc., but he is a solid balla. age is the only downside, he will turn 23 in march. if he works out the cavs can get a few prime years out of him.

Damn Columbus gets the blame for anything that goes wrong for NEO! The guy was Detroit born and bred and a Pistons fan! Blame that state up North!! lol.

Yeah it’s wild, he’s about a full year older than Sexton, who will be going into his third season. It does seem like half the mocks have Avdija going to the Bulls, half of them have him falling past 4. NBA site has a nice consensus mock that compiles the major mocks together:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/amp/league/article/2020/08/20/2020-consensus-mock-draft

thats funny because the very first mocks i saw going back a ways had ball over edwards. then for the longest you saw edwards at the top. i see now that ball has come back around as the consensus again.

I was so stoked for Obi coming to Ctown.  I would actually go to games to watch that (once the pandemic is under control and I’ve been vaccinated).   They got a guy that likes to play defense. Certainly needed.

Maybe they can interchange Windler on offense and Okoro on defense.

^ whoa -- those are pretty bad.

Seems like this will be the era of 1970s Indians uniforms for the Cavs...

I was told by everyone that the Cavs would be super terrible this season.  But they blew out the 76ers last night to go 3-0.

Therefore:

Order your playoff tickets now.

Now if only I could watch them.  Sinclair couldn't come to an agreement with any of the OTT providers and I refuse to go back to cable.  I wish they'd wise up and just let me pay them $10 or even $20 per month for the Fox RSNs.

Kevin Love out at least 3 weeks with calf strain.  Dang, that guy is so fragile.

The Cavs have a fairly weak schedule over the next month.  Only game I can see them needing Love to win would be the Milwaukee game. There is plenty of offense on the team. I’m impressed with Drummond’s passing and assists. I can see him getting a few triple doubles over the next few weeks.

This team is crazy young and deep with talent. There are so many players they are taking long looks at.  Others that are injured like Delly, Okoro, and Windler again that will be back soon.  Exum and Javale McGee are healthy and matchup problems for other teams.  KPJ should start to get involved again.

It should be very fun being a Cavalier as they seem to be blowing out most average or worse teams so should be able to match up to the top teams when they start playing them.

drummond and mcgee are incredible pickups for the cavs — at least no one is missing tristan kardashian.

Too bad the Cavs couldn't hit a shot last night vs the Knickerbockers

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

yes garland said there was a lid on the rim lol.

now this is an insightful and refreshing observation on the cavs first loss:

“I felt like if it was last year, or the year before, and we was missing this many shots, we probably would have lost by 20, 25, 30,” Sexton said. “But tonight we just continued to fight, we continued to play hard, we continued to scrap. We’re definitely growing. I can see the growth just because I’ve been here three years now. I know what type of team we have. And I have never played with a team yet like this. I’m excited.”

The Cavs are very thin at the forward positions. Without Love, Windler, and Okoro its typical that Nance and Osman struggle against strong forwards. Its clear neither should be starters. They can get away with one or the other starting, but not both.

yet even short handed the cavs come roaring back to beat atlanta. what an unexpected great start to the season. drummond, mcgee and exum are making the difference.

i’m trying to imagine this team at full good health, if thats ever possible. seems it could even have playoff potential. yeah probably getting ahead of ourselves on a thought like that lol.

Kevin Love has to be the most injury-prone player in Cavs history.  So it is questionable how much of him we will see this season. But despite that, it would be nice to see the Cavs finish above .500.

Edited by skiwest

^ true, but brad daugherty and his injuries held the cavs back a lot too at the time. and lets not even go there with miracle of richfield's jim chones' ill timed injury before that. being injured for a finals series like love was trumps those days though.

  • 2 weeks later...

cavs fell below .500 and continue as the walking wounded.

sexton, garland, exum, love, porter and windler out for up next utah. thats not right ugh.

Dang, why do the Cavs seem to be constantly riddled by injuries?

Particularly Kevin Love's lack of durability over the last couple years has been so frustrating.  He's the big $ man and was supposed to be face of the franchise.

He was the firewall that was to keep the 2nd post-Lebron era from being a lottery trip every year. Durability is a key requirement for all-star players.  If the team could ever get healthy, they could be really competitive,

So......

pluto is talking allen and prince in the harden trade. so many bigs now lol!  unfortunately drummond and mcgee are fa’s, but allen can be matched and kept. i really hope they can keep drummond he is really special and has kept the cavs going with all the injuries. that probably means mcgee will have to go, who i like too. looks like the cavs are wondering if they both may leave.

i think the cavs got stuck with prince and it looks like his dumped salary, he makes no impression. but here he is, so we’ll give him a chance.

and again all the best to exum, who i liked, and who was improving, although i dk what his ceiling is.

All-time Cavs game from Sexton last night. So much fun

so much for the debut of the ballyhooed trio of harden, durant & irving. what a game to remember — and the 2nd ot was all sexton.

I watched the game. The young CAVS look good. Sexton is developing in quite a plater. It’s too bad Kevin Porter continued to be a head case. He would have been a nice rotational piece off the bench.

True. But still...

coach told the cavs to scrap and that they did, winning the middle two quarters. but of course lebron and company turnt it up in the 4th for his homecoming. i wonder how it would have went if nance wasnt out and love was healthy and playing?

also, espn sez on court lebron was throwing looks at somebody in the cavs front office, i wonder what that was about?

i see about 2k people are allowed in for games. is that right? is it just like first responders, friends and family? or can the public actually get tix now???

Kevin Love announces his engagement to model Kate Bock.  Hopefully he doesn't hurt himself during honeymoon.

If he did hurt himself, I wouldn't blame him.  She is 🔥 x 10!

congrats to kl! now get yr arse back out on that court. j/k, j/k.

i wonder why his insta says brooklyn tho? he lives in tribeca. the dog's name is vestry, which gives it away (70 Vestry St.).

its a very nice classy new apt building with a stone base. downside its on the westside highway, but no doubt they are well insulated from that lol. i sort of know it just because friends live around the corner:
