the short-handed cavs were ballers for the last three quarters, but just could not overcome that overwhelming nets start.

they probably would have won with allen, definitely with allen & sexton.

i guess the nets could say the same with ben simmons.

the cavs have one more crack at it, so lets see what happens.

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

If we have a relatively functional Jarrett Allen, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Cavs be in position to win the next play-in game down the stretch.

I thought their effort was pretty good in Brooklyn - the Nets without Kryie would’ve been in some trouble - but it is what it was.

But being out of town and too cheap to buy the nbA season pass, I haven’t seen that many Cavs games this year - was this game typical of Caris Levert?  Man was i underwhelmed.

He's had a few good games but yeah he's mostly been inefficient and underwhelming. He kinda feels like a discount version combo of Rubio's playmaking and Sexton's scoring

I see no one posted it here even though it was five days ago, so just to close the loop:

CLEVELAND -- — When the final horn sounded and Trae Young's work was done, he slammed the ball off the floor, sending it spinning skyward. He then turned and waved goodbye to the Cleveland fans retreating to the the exits.

So cold.

Ice Trae stings again.

Young scored 32 of his 38 points in the second half and the Atlanta Hawks overcame losing center Clint Capela to a knee injury to beat the Cavaliers 107-101 in the play-in on Friday night and earn the Eastern Conference's No. 8 playoff seed.

I didn't go look at what the Cavs' record after the All-Star Break was, but injuries and inexperience both caught up to us hard, it seems.

Still excited for next year and this year was still something of a turning of the page from the LeBron era.  But it hurts to have seen so many close nailbiter losses in the last 2 months of regular season play and wonder about what might have been.

The Cavs never seemed to be the same after Rubio went down on Dec 28th.  Hopefully, the younger players will spend the off-season on conditioning to build up their strength and endurance to make it through the six month regular season and potentially two month post-season.

^ it's true, not to take away from others, but ricky rubio was the hard hustling heart and soul of the early cavs season. he was electric and he inspired the whole team. i wish him the best health and hope he can come back to the cavs.

The Cavs running on all cylinders was a thing of beauty this season. I agree that Rubio was a lynch pin in all that. It was great to see Darius come into his own. But I believe the guys became a bit too reliant on him, and the team game suffered with the injuries while they tried to get that chemistry back.

i forgot i had taken this pick when the cavs came to town and played the nets.

If he could just even approximate being normal for two seasons he would fit perfectly as a 2 on this team. I know he blew up our title squad, but he’s still maybe the most entertaining player the Cavs have ever had. He was worth the price of admission on those post Lebron teams.

^ that said, i’m with stephen a. — i would give kyrie a statue for what he did that championship series, but i would never give him more than a one year at a time contract. he is mental and doesn’t come to work.

I like going back to the 2000s gold, but the net logo and shield are awful. I’ve never liked the shield, but they managed to make it worse by removing the sword. I know they’ve been using the net logo for a while now, but it’s so dull and lifeless. Just use the 90s logo they’re referencing and paint it gold. However all will be forgiven (by me lol) if they bring back the 2000s unis.

edit: Also not sure why they seem so reluctant to go back to the 70s and 80s logos that are universally beloved.

Why do the Cavaliers need to keep changing the uniforms, color scheme and logo every couple of years?   Teams like the Knicks, Celtics, Lakers and others have remained basically the same over the years.   And I hate seeing CAVS or C on the uni.  The name should be spelled out.

Swag sales.   Even the Knicks Celtics and Lakers come out with new merch..they just don't change their colors.

oh no -- that is a very dull, uninspired look.

not at all the old real deal wine and gold era, or even the bright daugherty/price era.

maybe the special unis will be better, like the throwback or city edition styles? have those been released yet?

New unis haven’t been revealed yet have they?

I wish they would go back to something similar to what they had originally in the early 70s.

no i dont think any uniforms have been rleased yet.

but the new dull logos dont bode well at all.

who am i kidding, i'll probably buy something lol.

The “big reveal” with the color change was definitely lackluster. But I do think there are opportunities to end up with some nice unis. And I like them leaning into the Wine and Gold. Anything like those classic Lebron I era unis or the alternates they wore last year with the 70s logo and I’ll be pleased.

The Browns have no logo (sorry, I don't consider logoless helmet as a logo).  The Guardians are using the crooked C as their primary logo (ugh).  Previously, the Indians were using block C as their logo (double ugh).  The Cavs were the only major pro team in Cleveland with a decent logo.

espn and mcmenamin say #18 in the way too early power rankings.

i think that is far lowballed - if they can stay healthy.

also we have the restricted free agent sexton question to deal with:

18 does seem low, but it’s hard to argue about the teams they have ranked in front. I would say maybe the Cavs are better than the Lakers and Timberwolves? There’s maybe never been this much parity in the league. Outside of the top 4, you could really rank 5-20 in any order and make an argument.

Good point. I think the Cavs are the biggest X-factor team in the league right now. Like, it would surprise no one if they end up far better than 18.

And we just added 7-footer veteran Robin Lopez for more depth:

good summer league news per this espn blurb:

Agbaji should give Cleveland fans hope for the future

Cleveland's Ochai Agbaji scored 16 points in an encouraging summer league debut, but it's how he did it that should have Cavs fans most excited. Twelve of Agbaji's 16 points came from beyond the arc, and he proved to the NBA world that he could not only knock down catch-and-shoot 3s, but create his own looks from deep too, as he hit this NBA-ready step-back early in the first.

Abgaji looked confident in his debut, and he has good reasons for that -- he arrived in Vegas with one of the best résumés of any rookie in his class. The 22-year-old shooting guard not only helped the Kansas Jayhawks win the NCAA title in April, but he was also named a first-team All-American and Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four. Those achievements owe a lot to the simple fact this rookie played a ton of college hoops -- he was the only senior drafted in the first round this season, and the oldest lottery pick in this year's draft.

Still, the Cavs are hoping Agbaji's best days are still ahead of him and that he can help this group improve its offensive efficiency. Last season, the Cavs ranked fifth in the league in defense but just 20th in offense, thanks in part to a mediocre output from beyond the arc.

Agbaji has the potential to become an elite 3-point scorer, and his debut didn't do anything but support that claim. He took nine 3s in his first game as a pro, making four of them. If he can add some perimeter strength to this Cavs core that already features Darius Garland, Evan Mobleyand Jarrett Allen, Cleveland's future is only getting brighter. -- Kirk Goldsberry

…..then followed it up with 8 points on 3/11 shots yesterday. Obviously it’s only summer league, but it seems like the Cavs may have passed on some better overall talent (namely Tari Eason) to go after a more limited player who fills a specific role. If Ochai can’t shoot at least high 30s on 3s right away, this could be a wasted pick. We’ll see!

i dk, threes were said to be his thing, but not everybody is going to be a consistent steph curry with them out of the box. on paper and with what little i have seen, he plays better d and less fouls than eason, so we will see. eason plays a healthy hardcore hustler rubio type style, ochai is definitely different. yes it could be a wasted pick, but who knows at this point?

next is weds 5pm vs hornets. look like the hornets traded their top 2022 picks for future draft picks.

We can hope that the pic isn't a bust- however, even putting that out there two games into the summer league seems a bit early.

From all accounts Ochai is a solid NBA-ready pick, but let's give him a second or two.

Def not calling him a bust, but I do question the Cavs’ draft strategy. In order to be a good pick, Ochai will have to be a well above average 3 point shooter. He doesn’t have a very diverse skill set. Even his defense is more theoretical at this point. I would have preferred taking a swing on someone younger, with a more diverse skill set, and a higher ceiling like Eason.

Ochai with 24 yesterday, 4-8 from the 3.

well in and of themselves the designs are not very inspiring or fresh style-wise, it's all sort of the newer logos combined with old school cool and hoosiers era tough, so i kind of like them for that reason.

the cavs jerseys are the lead photo for the espn article about the new jerseys:

The clean design in Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers might have an advantage in the uniform game. In 2020, the team hired artist Daniel Arsham as creative director. Arsham is a contemporary artist who works as a sculptor and designer. He helped redesign the team's uniforms and lettering.

"It's a very clean, reductive, modern design that pays homage to all of the players and fans that have been a part of our team's remarkable journey in becoming who we are today," Arsham told the team's website.
