May 14, 200916 yr Zydrunas Ilgauskas interested in rest, not in Boston-Orlando series Posted by dsims May 14, 2009 00:29AM With the Cavaliers facing another long layoff, most of the players are keenly following the Boston-Orlando series, which will determine the Cavs' opponent in the Eastern Conference finals. But not Zydrunas Ilgauskas. "I watch the Travel Channel or the Discovery Channel," the Cleveland center said. "I don't watch much basketball. When I'm at home, I like to kick back and read a book or do something else. The last thing I want to do is watch games." Ilgauskas -- nursing a sore ankle and shoulder -- is thrilled with the extra time to recover after sweeping Atlanta out of the conference semifinals, and to get ready for what he figures will be a much tougher series. If the Celtics (up, 3-2, in the series) win in Orlando tonight, they will open at The Q on Monday. If that series goes seven games, the winner will face the Cavs on Wednesday. May 14, 200916 yr Thanks MTS for that great fluff piece :P I like Z. At least I didn't post that crap about NASCAR fume inhaling Brad Daugherty saying the 80's Cavs could beat today's Cavaliers.
May 14, 200916 yr Daugherty has been all sour grapes about the Lebron years. He has kept his distance from the organization ever since retiring. I'm not a fan of this guy.
May 14, 200916 yr Daugherty has been all sour grapes about the Lebron years. He has kept his distance from the organization ever since retiring. I'm not a fan of this guy. Honey, he's a NASCAR analyst/commentator, 'nuff said!
May 14, 200916 yr ^ I read in the article that he thinks Hot Rod Williams could handle Lebron if Lebron played on the post. Besides the fact that Lebron could crush everyone on that team...Hot Rod would be funny to watch guard Lebron with all of the rumors that Hot Rod could be Lebrons biological father. It couldve possibly been a nice father/son match up
May 15, 200916 yr arrgh - so what does brad have to say about his eating up all that salary for year after year while on injured reserve? sure he was a god the brief period he actually played, but after his injuries his salary held them back and he turned out to be the worst thing that ever happened to the cavs. don't get me started on daugherty, if he cared he should have retired years earlier than he finally did instead of riding it out so long and killing the cavs options all that time. they should have retired his jersey to the basement not the rafters....

Tell us how you really feel.
May 15, 200916 yr Mr. Daugherty was good... but you should see my grandma... She could gaurd lebron... ofcourse she would foul him (head butt to the groin- she goes that on the court in her over 80s league) and he'd score mass on her but she probably could do better than detriot and atl did with him...

LOL
May 15, 200916 yr Game 1 will be Wednesday and Game 2 will be Friday here in Cleveland. It seems like the general consensus among my cavs friends is that we will wipe the floor with either of these teams. Not so fast, Boston plays to the level of their competition. If they win this series, they can beat us in Boston (not in Cleveland, IMO) and I ithink this series will be at least 6. Orlando, I just dont know what orlando team will show up. I cant put my finger on them. They are a two-faced team. You dont live by the three, just die by it...
May 15, 200916 yr Fucking Celtics.. can't even win when I want them to.. they must do the opposite of what I want to spite me..
May 15, 200916 yr Well they just gave us a home friday playoff date... I can't hate them that much. :)

May 15, 200916 yr Brad Daugherty, bah! I never liked that marshmallow. As soft as Z. Larry Nance and Mark Price made that team.
May 15, 200916 yr not to mention he was on IR longer than he was actually on the court. bah! :whip: Between Nina Van Horn and Brad Daugherty, you've got a big bee in your bonnet.
May 17, 200916 yr Mr. Daugherty was good... but you should see my grandma... She could gaurd lebron... ofcourse she would foul him (head butt to the groin- she goes that on the court in her over 80s league) and he'd score mass on her but she probably could do better than detriot and atl did with him... its funny watching old people play basketball.. ofcourse the rim is only at 5 feet.. Grandma is very rude and crude.. Old men chase her around in wheelchairs. I guess a dirty old lady is a turn on for them. She loves lebron.. She told me once "I'd teach that boy I few tricks".. dont think she was talking basketball...
May 17, 200916 yr Did anyone see Outside the Lines on ESPN last Sunday? Apparently they had a story on the impact of LeBron possibly leaving Cleveland, and I cannot find it on ESPN.com.
May 18, 200916 yr From the NY Post: SORRY, KNICKS, BUT LEBRON SHOULD NEVER LEAVE HOME MAYBE this doesn't matter. Maybe it shouldn't matter. In sports, there's no such thing as a guilty conscience if you're a fan, no such thing as feeling badly for coveting thy neighbor's franchise player. We have become steeled to all of it, after all. I do not recall all that much hand-wringing for the fair baseball fans of Milwaukee when the Yankees blew CC Sabathia out of the water with $161 million. I do not recall many Mets fans wracked with remorse for the poor folks of Houston (or Kansas City) when they bestowed $119 million on Carlos Beltran. This is the big leagues. Guys get paid. Guys switch cities. They switch uniforms. New York, Chicago and Los Angeles are what they are, and one thing they aren't is Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. For better and for worse. Still . . . Full story at http://www.nypost.com/seven/05172009/sports/knicks/sorry__knicks__but_lebron_should_never_l_169712.htm?page=0

May 18, 200916 yr ^^Yep np! Well, I found the Orlando Sentinal Magic Blog...he's already in Cleveland :-D http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2009/05/live-from-cleveland-cavs-country-preparing-for-orlandos-arrival.html
May 18, 200916 yr I think the biggest key to this series is Z's outside shooting. If Z is hitting, it will force Howard out of the lane, and they will have no one left to stop our drives to the hoop. Their offense is what it is. Sometimes they will be really hot, and sometimes they won't... you live by the 3, you die by the 3.
May 18, 200916 yr I was thinking in my head for possible creative headlines for that may come up in this series...I know, I'm a nerd....like, "Superman vs. The King" etc Then it came to me...: "Dwight Howard, watch out! 'Superman' was invented in CLEVELAND...!!" What do you think???
May 18, 200916 yr I just thought of the best one-liner for this series/promotion for the city....I was thinking in my head for possible creative headlines for that may come up in this series...I know a nerd...like, "Superman vs. The King" etc Then it came to me...: "Dwight Howard, watch out! May 19, 200916 yr That artical is right.... Akron is not a stinking burb of cleveland.. Twin city?? Nah.. If Akron were further away it would have its own identity and wouldn't be overshadowed.. Lebron knows that if he left.. He be hated here just like art modell.. He won't leave! He won't turn his back on ne ohio.. Especially Akron... he loves his hometown.. (As do I.. Proud to be an akronite) .. Ny don't get it .. Not about money or bright lights... A man from Akron ohio is mentioned in the same breath as tiger woods... world wide.. Ny won't bring him more fame.. Or power.. He has it all right from Akron.. With the team in his blood..

May 19, 200916 yr a predictably eh nytimes sports article, but here it is: Cavaliers Have Been Dominant but Not Intriguing Published: May 18, 2009 Shirtless and smirking, LeBron James whipped a looping, two-handed shot from the corner baseline seats — behind the court, at least 25 feet away — and watched it sail, over the backboard and through the net. Satisfied with his work, James strutted away, hands in the air, biceps bulging. The self-proclaimed King never looked more relaxed. While the N.B.A.’s other contenders were sweating through overtimes and seven-game series, James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were in virtual hibernation. They cruised through two rounds of playoffs without an ounce of anxiety, or a loss. They played their last game eight days ago, leaving them to kill time with light practices and trick-shot competitions. James’s remarkable shot was captured on film Sunday afternoon, sometime before the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 7 victory over Houston and Orlando’s Game 7 victory over Boston. It signaled the end of the Cavaliers’ extended recess. They open the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday night against the Magic. May 19, 200916 yr Who cares if they're not intriguing. Last time I checked, the have the best record in the league and have swept their last two opponents. "The 2010 debate may be the most interesting thing about them." Seriously, how about the fact they're 74-16 this season you moron, or how about they're the only team in history to win their first eight games by double digits. Just another stupid article by an arrogant New Yorker.
May 19, 200916 yr The Spurs are usually the most boring team in the NBA, but they win, and that's all I care about.

May 19, 200916 yr yeah i'd think best record, best coach, best player and sweeping the first 2 playoff series is pretty intriguing. and that they are on a mission. you know other writers seem to pick up on all that, but hey this is the nytimes and sports is not their forte.
May 19, 200916 yr oh come on kids, that article is like a forbes poll! Don't get so worked up!! The only thing that counts is a "W"! Who cares how we get them, if we're intriguing? blah, blah, blah. How you counter that article. You ask this question: "What island, that is not Manhattan or Long, are the Knicks and Nets players watching the Playoff on?"

May 20, 200916 yr GAME DAY!!!! LETS GO CAVS. Im predicting a close game Cavs 94 Orlando 88. How about yours? I actually am predicting Orlanda to completely destroy the Cavs tonight. I do however think the CAVS will win the series in game 7. The Cavs will be off tonight.
May 20, 200916 yr I actually am predicting Orlanda to completely destroy the Cavs tonight. I do however think the CAVS will win the series in game 7. The Cavs will be off tonight. Well I hope not. I do think that it becomes difficult to maintain a mental edge when you have such a long lay off.

I do think that it becomes difficult to maintain a mental edge when you have such a long lay off. I agree. The Cavs have to come out clicking on all cylinders. Mo & Delonte have to step up and Sideshow Bob has to score while holding (helping keep) Superman in check.
May 20, 200916 yr You never know what you are going to get out of Orlando...but I have no reason to not trust Mike Brown and the team's preparation. They have remained focus this whole time. Im sure they will have an effective defensive game plan and be ready to blow the roof off that place. I sure hope they dont lose...i dont want to give the haters anything to talk about.

Based on which Orlando team shows up, we could be in for a hard time. One game, they look like an NBA team, the next a High School Junior varsity.
May 20, 200916 yr Cleveland parties for the Cavs as Orlando series gets under way by John Petkovic/Plain Dealer Reporter Wednesday May 20, 2009, 2:04 PM LeBron James and company take on Orlando this week.Detroit Pistons? Check. Atlanta Hawks? Done. It's been easy going for the Cleveland Cavaliers so far in the NBA playoffs. So easy that getting worked up for the games has been a bit of a challenge, says party promoter Arnold Hines. May 20, 200916 yr Here are 2 keys, IMO, to this series for the Cavs: 1. Don't double team Howard. I don't think Dwight Howard is to the point where he can carry a team. Make him beat his guy solo rather than forcing a double team and kicking out to perimeter guys. He's a terrible FT shooter and the rotation, or lack there of, after he passes out of the double team allows him to get offensive rebounds. The reason the Cavs were so good this year was defense, especially preventing the 3. Orlando's strength is not Howard per se, but rather the team's 3 point shooting which is in part a strength because of other teams willingness to double Howard. 2. Penetrate. No one can stop LeBron from taking it to the hole and sometimes it seems he forgets this. He needs to focus on that part of his game this series. Furthermore, we need to see more drive and kicks from Mo/Delonte. We need to get Orlando into foul trouble. Drive, pass to Z inside. Drive, take a foul. Drive, dump it to Andy. Interior passing & getting fouls. Orlando's rotation is not as deep as the Cavs. Cavs need to take advantage of that. All in all, I can't wait!
