June 29, 201014 yr Ouch....for some reason I think it was finalized since it was announced over a year ago.....damn... http://www.clevescene.com/64-and-counting/archives/2010/06/21/cavs-deal-with-chinese-investment-group-still-up-in-the-air
June 29, 201014 yr http://www.onlyincle.com/2010/06/what-about-those-chinese-investors.html http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2010/06/29/sports/nh2711077.txt "Apparently, the Chinese group is waiting, like the rest of the league, to see what happens with James in free agency." glad for the clarification... though reading that reminded me how much I dislike read finnan.
June 29, 201014 yr NOW... the reports are that Shaw left town without a contract offer, but that doesn't mean that he didn't solidify himself as the top candidate. The Summer of Lebron continues...
June 29, 201014 yr glad for the clarification... though reading that reminded me how much I dislike read finnan. Yeah, that's why I searched for "investor" on the page and just read that paragraph. :)
June 30, 201014 yr There was also a piece on ESPN a week or two ago that Kobe Bryant is much more popular in China than Lebron is, and the reason is Kobe's multiple championships. We already knew that Lebron is going to go where he thinks he can win a championship. But that means more endorsement money than he can ever get from his NBA salary. And China is a huge factor in that these days. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
June 30, 201014 yr Cleveland Orchestra has a July 4th theme and a Lebron stay in Cleveland theme... http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland-orchestra-joins-in-pitch-for-lebron-to-stay-in-cleveland
July 1, 201014 yr Shaw withdraws name and Cavs are in deep contract talks with Byron Scott to be Cavs head coach. As I see it, two possibilities here: 1. Cavs wanted an answer right now and Shaw wants to see what happens with the LAL job. He didn't want to rush and the Cavs did not want to wait, as they feel equally good about Scott. OR 2. Scott was always Gilbert's #1 choice after Izzo (as was reported previously) and he just used Shaw to force Scott to consider taking less $ than what he thought Izzo was offered. Shaw may have even been complicit in order to take Scott out of the running for LAL (if that job opens up, Scott was rumored to be the candidate preffered by LAL owners Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson). I imagine they are still squabling over money as I write this post, but it appears like it is going to get done.
July 1, 201014 yr Aaaaand Done! (almost...) Agent: Byron Scott accepts Cavs' job CLEVELAND -- Byron Scott has accepted Cleveland's coaching job, his agent told The Associated Press. Brian McInerney said in an e-mail that the sides are working through some final details, but that Scott has agreed to become Cleveland's next coach, with or without free agent LeBron James http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=138833&catid=33
July 1, 201014 yr At least we have a coach now... :-o Agent: Byron Scott Accepts Cavaliers' Job Scott previously coached in New Jersey and New Orleans. The 49-year-old won three NBA titles as a player and took the Nets to two finals as a coach. The Cavs have been looking for a coach since Mike Brown was fired May 24, ending a five-year run with the club. http://www.fox8.com/news/wjw-cavaliers-coach-byron-scott-txt,0,6190684.story
July 1, 201014 yr Now we just need one more guy... He has NBA head coaching experience, that's for sure.

Windhorst reported this was quite the spin job from the shaw camp... that it was the shaw camp telling everyone he had the job, which miffed the cavs front office and led the cavs to step away from shaw. Either way... I'm pretty happy with byron scott.
July 1, 201014 yr Reportedly (which is how I will preface everything until LBJ signs), Lebron is meeting with potential suitors today in Downtown Cleveland at the IMG buiding. Knicks and Nets for sure this morning. Word also is that he plans to make a decision before his bball camp opens on July 5.

July 1, 201014 yr Hey, kudos to Lebron for bringing some big spendors to town.... I guess :| Is Russian Billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov in town?? He's fairly big spender... http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/nets-up-first-pitch-lebron-with-clothing-line-and-lessons-in-being-a-billionaire.php
July 1, 201014 yr From Brian Windhorst: "New Nets owner and Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov and his contingent arrived a few minutes later. Prokhorov confidently strode to the elevators leading a contingent with rapper and part owner Jay-Z, team president Rod Thorn and new coach Avery Johnson." http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/07/lebron_james_recruiting_visits.html Here's also a running BLOG: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/knicks/2010/07/live-blog-the-recruiting-of-le.html
July 1, 201014 yr The Nets' meeting lasted about two hours and they left. NYK just concluded their meeting, which lasted about 2 1/2 hours. In other NBA news that I find relevant here - Rudy Gay is preparing to sign a max deal with his team, the Grizzlies..... as is Joe Johnson with his team, the Hawks. The JJ deal is reportedly worth $119 over 6 years. Dallas radio is reporting that Dirk is going to sign a 4 year contract with his team, the Mavericks. Bosh is the only player that appears destined to switch teams and that will still probably be in a sign and trade to Miami so that he can max out his salary as well. Some of the smarter analysts have been saying this for awhile now. No matter how much you want to talk about market size and alleged bright lights, money makes the world go 'round and these players have no interest in leaving guaranteed $$$ on the table.
July 1, 201014 yr Looks like somebody hung a sign right outside where LBJ met with the Nets and Knicks, and where he will be hosting the Clippers and Heat tomorrow.
July 1, 201014 yr I find it hilarious Lebron shows up in sweatpants and a white t-shirt. He does whatever he wants.... And it's almost like "welcome to my home, Cleveland" as if it were his living room or something
July 2, 201014 yr They are putting those silly banners up on every over pass on I-77 between Downtown and Rt 18 in Akron. Plus adds on the electronic billboards

Plus adds on the electronic billboards I saw those banners above I-77 last night, too. One says "Home" and the other says "More than a player." They were apparently made by the Cavs because their logo is in the lower-right of each. July 2, 201014 yr Awesome! ODOT can't clear the snow off of the roads in the winter, but they waste no time in taking down these banners!
July 2, 201014 yr The Cavs are supposed to meet with LBJ tomorrow at 11am. The Bulls will follow at 2:30 and then the meetings will be over. Some fans are contemplating rushing downtown tomorrow and creating a "fan tunnel" (whatever that is) for his route from the highway to the IMG building (assuming that is where the meeting will take place - I have my doubts and think it might actually be in Independence at the practice facility). I was planning a bike ride tomorrow morning anyway, so I MIGHT check it out. But probably not.

This is high theatre lol Not being a particularly zealous fan of any sport, team or persona thereof, I'm really enjoying the show
July 2, 201014 yr It sure is a show. Never seen anything like it here in my 43 years. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 4, 201014 yr Cool vid on Cavs homepage. Check it out. http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/morethanaplayer_splash_100630.html
July 6, 201014 yr Latest chatter has Bosh potentially coming to CLE in a sign and trade. If LBJ is pushing this, then I have to think he's strongly considering re-signing with CLE, if Bosh will wise up and sign the agreement. Don't know how I feel about giving up up to 4 players, particularly Andy AND JJ, but hey, Bosh is a proven. JJ is merely potential at this point. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5357607
July 6, 201014 yr the article says and/or... and windhorst said that talks aren't that far along though the cavs and raps have spoken. I really don't even bother reading anyone besides windhorst right now, too much misinformation out there.
July 6, 201014 yr I like Windhorst for the same reason. He seems to be not as drawn into the hype as others. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear they're talking, because they need to be. Once LBJ decides where he's going, the other pieces are going to fall quickly. If he's staying, I'd like them to have a plan in place to grab Bosh. BTW, I don't know why Bosh would balk at the deal. He's hitched his wagon to either Dwayne Wade or Lebron. It seems unlikely that D-Wade would really leave Miami, and they don't have anything to trade to Tor for Bosh. If (and I still think it's a long shot if) LBJ stays in CLE, and Bosh doesn't come here, so where is he going?

July 6, 201014 yr Most everybody is convinced that Bosh does not want to come here. I've moved on. I only want players here that want to be here, LBJ included. And yes, Andy AND JJ is too big a price to pay IMO. People are sleeping on JJ. Watch out for him this year with Scott's offense. We might already have that term that is being tossed about over and over again - 'legitimate second option'
July 7, 201014 yr I don't want them to give up JJ and Andy, but boy do I really want Bosh. Maybe it's just the optimist in me, but I believe that LBJ can convince Bosh to come to Cleveland.
July 7, 201014 yr Lebron is supposed to be announcing his decision this Thursday at 9pm on ESPN. 1-hour special TV event. Revenue to go the Boys and Girls Club of America. From what I know about the guy, I find it hard to believe that he is going to break his fans' hearts on national TV. If he was leaving, I would have expected a 'pack it up in the middle of the night' type thing. Note to Bath Twp. police chief - be prepared to exercise those mutual aid contracts if this thing goes bad.
July 7, 201014 yr This is absolutely classic! ESPN.com has a story that ESPN the Mag's Chris Broussard has learned (through sources of course) that Lebron will make his announcement on ESPN on Thursday night. ESPN is only confirming that discussions have taken place. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5359255
July 7, 201014 yr Mike and Mike this am reported that Bosh is going to Miami with D-Wade. He refused to do a sign and trade to Cle. The plot thickens. BTW, I don't know why I keep listening to ESPN (I know why, because they're the only game in town). Shelley Smith is 'live in Cleveland'. They asked here what the feeling was in town and her response was (paraphrased slightly) "I fear for the safety of Clevelanders". No deadpan, just genuine concern. Come on, really?
July 7, 201014 yr Well, I think the chances of Lebron going to Chicago, NYN, and NJN have just diminished greatly since the package deal with Chris Bosh or Dwayne Wade has been elimnated. I'd say, in order, the most likely now are: Cleveland Miami Chicago I don't think Lebron wants to play with Amare in New York, and there would be no talent with him in New Jersey.
July 7, 201014 yr Lebron's going to Miami. Hate to say it, but Wade/LBJ/Bosh will be the next "Big 3".
July 7, 201014 yr I just can't see these guys each leaving the amount of money on the table that would take. I really don't.
July 7, 201014 yr I just can't see these guys each leaving the amount of money on the table that would take. I really don't. Me either, but Bosh just left $27M on the table by not agreeing to a sign and trade. They want titles, which think will lead to more $$ later.
July 7, 201014 yr Can't wait to see you in Cleveland next year Bosh, it should be fun. Cleveland fans like to throw things. Gilbert should do a play money promo and the fans can shower him with all the money he left on the table by not taking the sign and trade.
July 7, 201014 yr I have to say, I think he might do Miami for a short contract to see if he can win a few titles, then test the free agency in 3 years for the money. I think Chicago is suddenly out of this, and NY is a really long shot with Stoudamire. I think it's between Cleveland (money / loyalty ) and Miami (rings). I base this on nothing but gut feelings, which makes me equal to everyone in the media.....
