The Land has been one of the nicknames for Cleveland since the mid-90s at least, specifically within the Black Community and within Hip-Hop culture. That along with C-Town, which more people may be fa

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

It'll be really interesting to see how this team reacts this season. People seem to expect them to drop off a cliff and struggle to make the playoffs. I don't expect as large a drop off. If you look at the roster there are still some very talented players on that team (Jamison, Hickson, Williams, BOOBY, Andy, Moon, Parker). They won't be as talented as Boston, Orlando, Miami, but I expect them to be the 5th or 6th best team in the East (Atlanta and Chicago are wildcards right now).

I'm excited to see these guys play now that they've been "unleashed". Byron Scott should get the most out of these guys too... that was a good hire IMO.

Call me an optimistic fool, but I still think they can make the playoffs, but they need another piece or two. Byron Scott is going to run with this team, and most of the players on the squad are well-suited for such a system.

I agree..... And if Cleveland is truly a baskeball town with love for the Game, they'll still sell-out every game.  If you really want to stick it to James, then show-up as before and support the team and the City.

Unbelievable...but its not like i don't expect it from him

If it were anyone else, I would assume that the statement was a forgery.

Good.  Freaking.  Grief.

I'm ambivalent about Gilbert's letter, though I completely understand why he wrote it and what he must have been feeling at the time.  This, though, makes me want to go back and revise my opinion of Gilbert's letter upward--anything that gets under that bloviator's skin that badly can't be all bad.

Sorry I couldnt resist....

I will be showing up more.  I didn't want to pay what I would have had to pay for tickets when Lebron was selling the arena out.  But then again, my avatar used to be a basketball.

Is Delonte gone for sure?

Probably.  If for no other reason than that just about any team we do a trade with is going to want his non-guaranteed contract

So Ilgauskas is gone to the Heat.  I called that about 6 pages ago.  That was a no-brainer.

GD-it.  Now I don't know which jersey to buy, lol.  I guess I should wait until October.

We should retire Z's jersey at his first game back.  LBJ can "witness" the event.

that would be hilarious...

Big Z about to sign w/ Miami HeatZydrunas Ilgauskas - C - Miami HeatMore team newsToday - 3:15 PM ET

Zydrunas Ilgauskas will accept a contract from the Miami Heat, according to Cavs beat writer Brian Windhorst.

Big Z had spent his entire career with Cleveland, but would obviously rather chase a ring with LeBron and the Heat than sit through a re-building process with the Cavs. It's conceivable that he'll start at center while Chris Bosh plays PF.

Source: Brian Windhorst via Twitter

Eh, I don't blame him.  He has 1 maybe 2 years left and he deserves a ring.

^That's IF Miami can get a ring within the next two years- which means they'll have to get past a few of the normal names that pop up around the playoffs- LA (doubt they'll get past LA next year IF they even get that far), Orlando (will remain a strong team) and Boston (think they're getting old?  They went the distance against the Lakers).  And who knows which moves Cleveland might be able to make within that same time period, without the Drama Queen on board?

^True, but I think Miami is his best shot out of all the teams that were interested.

Good for Z. That will be one interesting game when the Heat play here, Z gets a standing ovation and LBJ gets boos and the backs of the crowd.

Also the Heat lack of depth basically guarantee that Z will play big minutes.

Z is over the hill.  If he's their starting center, he's going to get pushed around by the likes of Gasol, Howard, etc.

Also, the Cavs were looking to add Al Jefferson, but now it appears he's head to Utah.  D'oh!

I will be really conflicted IF the Heat make it to the Finals.  I would be truly pleased to see Z get a ring.

I'm not upset at not getting Al Jefferson.  He is a good power forward in a half-court set team.  We already have our power forward and Scott wants to run.  Jefferson would not have been a good fit IMO.

I hear we have signed Kyle Lowry to an offer sheet.  I like it.  We'll see if Houston matches but I doubt they will if the numbers reported are correct.  They already have their starting PG.  Lowry is a tough defender who has never really been given the chance to start since coming out of 'Nova 4-5 years back.

Cavs started their Summer League yesterday.  JJ looked good.  He nailed some jump shots.  Like AC said all season, JJ is an All-Star if he can master the 15 foot jump shot.  It would change the way teams have to guard him.  Also looking good was last year's 1st Round draft choice, Christian Eyenga ("Kid Congo").  Athletic freak who has the potential to be a lock-down SG in the league.  He has a couple real nice blocks and showed dramatic improvement from last summer.  Still very raw though and got into foul trouble early.  He will be on the Cavs roster this year.  Bank on that.

^Keep in mind that he was signed to an offer sheet because he is a restricted free agent.  Meaning... the Rockets have 7 days to match the offer.  I wouldn't be shocked if they did because I know they like him, but that is an awful lot to commit to a backup point guard.... especially when your starter is so young.

I was so bothered today about the continuous bashing of Cleveland fans and Dan Gilbert, I replied today to the author of this article...

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/fran_blinebury/07/14/gilbert.big.z/

That article doesn't seem as incendiary as the thousands that came before "the decision." You know, the ones that asked the rest of the world multiple times, "who wants to live in Cleveland, anyway?"

It seems the author had more of a problem with Gilbert. And I don't blame him.

Exactly.  If only Gilbert had edited his letter prior to hitting send, he might be the winner in the court of public opinion then being viewed as "ranting two faced loser".

^^yes.  basically saying there is a big difference with how Z left and how Lebron dragged us through the mud, ignored Dan Gilbert, and slapped Cleveland in the face on National television.  That fans are wishing Z good luck and that most believe Z deserves a title more than anyone.  But I did note that he was knocking Gilbert, not the city of Cleveland and its fans.

Anthor interesting twist/story:

Cleveland Cavs Fans Offering Financial Support to Owner Dan Gilbert

A team spokesman told the wire service that Gilbert has received thousands of e-mails and phone calls, in support of his decision to write it. Beyond written praise, several of those cheerful correspondences even offered to lend a few dollars from their wallets to help Gilbert pay the six-figure fine issued by NBA commissioner David Stern on Monday.

Gilbert responded with a, dare we say, nicer tone to his base of supporters. He plans to direct any contributions to a cause better than his slap-on-the-wrist: the Cavaliers Youth Fund.

“The humbling offer by so many is another reflection of the strength of Cavs fans and the people who live and work in this region and are always the first to step up and have each other's back,” Gilbert said in a statement. “I will pay this fine myself, but would be grateful and highly appreciative for any fan who redirects the dollars they kindly offered to contribute towards this fine to the Cavaliers Youth Fund, which will positively impact our region's kids through the numerous local charitable groups the Cavaliers Youth Fund supports.”

Cleveland Fans Sending Old LeBron Gear to Homeless Shelters in Miami

By Kyle Munzenrieder,

Wed., Jul. 14 2010 @ 12:14PM

Cleveland continues to be the whiniest city in all of American sports, but at least their latest drama queen moment over losing LeBron James has good intentions. A fan-created website and a Northern Ohio restaurant chain will be collecting fans' old LeBron t-shirts ...and sending them to homeless shelters in Miami.

http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2010/07/cleveland_fans_sending_old_leb.php

^ Well, that's awfully nice of him.

I misread your post earlier and didn't see that you had a problem with the author's treatment of Gilbert. My reckoning, however, is that Gilbert overstepped the line this time. He's pouring gasoline on that fire that is Cleveland's perennial self-hate.  But maybe it's a business decision--get the fans riled up against LeBron, and the Cavs will carry sold-out crowds even without him.

Love him or hate him, Dan Gilbert is who he is.  His passion is both his greatest strength and greatest weakness.  Did anyone expect any less of a reaction from him?.... especially that late at night after he probably had drowned away his sorrows in a bottle.  When you lose $150 million in assets (at least), and burn significant past investments, in the manner he did then you can take the high road and tell me you would have not lashed out at the person who made "The Decision".... not to mention he did not have the courtesy to pick up the phone and tell you like a man.

Windhorst said during the whole process that if Lebron leaves everybody better watch out because "Hell hath no fury like Dan Gilbert scorned."

I don't agree with Gilbert's words and I don't believe it was a wise course of action.  But that doesn't mean I don't sympathize with him.  I'm still glad he is our owner.

^ You're right, he has a right to be mad. He's certainly done more to ingratiate himself with the fanbase with his reaction than anything else he's ever done. Until now, it seemed like he was always viewed as an outsider (which is what he _was_).

I guess we'll have to put that rebuilding the team talk on hold until he sobers up, eh???

^Keep in mind that he was signed to an offer sheet because he is a restricted free agent. Meaning... the Rockets have 7 days to match the offer. Well Houston matched it:

Kyle Lowry will stay with Houston Rockets after team matches Cavs' offer sheet

LAS VEGAS - The Cavaliers' flirtation with Kyle Lowry was short-lived.

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey announced via his Twitter feed today that the Rockets would be matching the four-year, $24 million offer the Cavs signed Lowry to on Tuesday night.

The NBA owners have very little ground to stand on at the CBA negotiations when they are giving $6mill/yr. to back-up point guards and $5mill/yr. to legendary draft busts like Darko Milicic.

He wrote an inaccurate article lambasting Cleveland last week, too.  I honestly don't know how the man has a job, he's clearly missing a chromosome.

But on the flip side, they gain a feather in their cap when stars are willingly turning down money to play with each other.  The owners don't have much of a choice.  I found this article about Leonsis, owner the Washington Capitals and new owner of the Washington Wizards, interesting as he compares and contrasts the NHL and the NBA salary structures.

A change is gonna come.  And I can't wait!

NO.  Why do you ask?

I agree about being glad he's owner of the Cavs. Dan Gilbert has wanted nothing but the best for this franchise unlike, say, Larry Dolan. It even took Randy Lerner half a decade to wake up. Ranting letter aside, Dan's been the best owner of a Cleveland pro sports since the Jacobs.

Lebron has a line of clothes with french connection?

NO. Why do you ask?

Sorry, forgot the emoticon.  The font for FCUK Lebron is very similar to the french connection logo (FCUK).

Pinning the hopes of the city/region on one sports star isn't fair to any of us, LeBron included.  Best of luck to him.  Just think -- if as much energy, engagement, and "team spirit" that went into the LeBron campaign could be put into such things as improving our schools, decreasing crime, putting solid leaders in place, and public and private sectors working together for a strategic vision for the city and area -- people, including sports stars, will want to come here.  Move on LeBron, move on Cleveland.

Tell that to the factory worker who lost his job five years ago but found employment downtown as a parking lot attendant who may lose his job again.  Tell that to the single mom working her way through college at a bar in the Warehouse District who may lose her job.

Yes, eventually our anger will subside a bit, and from there it's up to us turn things around here, but don't be so callous right now.  This one hurts, and it's more than just the on-the-field aspect.  Heck it's more than just the economic aspect.  One of the greatest athletes in the world, a native, just spurned us on national television.  There's no "getting over it."

But that's just the point.  We cannot pin all that on one player making a decision.  I agree it was a huge f*&^ you to Cleveland and in the days that have ensued since the decision I think most see it as just that -- an indecent spectacle at best.  I'm not saying "get over it" I am saying "move on".  I tihnk the quicker we start to believe in ourselves the better.  Believe me, I work in the service industry and I am completely aware of the employment impact things like this can have on sports, entertainment and leisure service jobs and I am empathetic to people who work in my industry who face job loss challenges.  I can tell you however that allowing ourselves to feel victimized won't change the future.  I respect your opinion and thanks for listening to mine.

^I had read about that.  Story sounds fishy.... almost like a set-up.

Exactly, granted not sure what this has to do with teh CAVS.  This should probably be in "off topic"?

If you're selling, why would you GO TO THE SELLER?  at that price point, they should come to you at a neutral location.

Both parties get the side eye from me!

Just saw a t-shirt:

His Momma is Still Riding West!!

Someone sent me a link with that shirt and other funny stuff about Lebron

Not sure if this was posted yet or not. Completely unflattering portrayal of LBJ.

I've only had the chance to read bits and pieces of it, but I'm not surprised.  I think in the days, weeks, and months to come, it's only going to keep getting worse for him.  After the stunt he pulled last week (and the plans that lead up to it), it seems that people are no longer willing to keep secrets for him.
