We need help designing an UO t-shirt and what better people to help out but you!

I would like to see someting that looks good and is wearable almost anywhere.  Not a big fan of designs on the back with a little logo in the front.  What are some of your suggestions?

The winning design will get a free t-shirt, $50 + A SURPRISE!!!, and whatever else we can think of.  As of now the tentative deadline will be Oct 10th.

Edit:

Images that could possibly be used.

Did we mention $50, a free t-shirt, and uh...yeah!

Hmm...If I somehow, somewhere get some free time I'll see what I can throw together.  I might post something on UrbanCincy notifying those readers about the design request.

Well when this shirt is available, I'll definitely buy one!! :-)

I agree, nothing on the back. I would like to see something to counter that "friends don't let friends move to Ohio" theme. I am seeing this shirt more and more.

Something campy and tongue- in- cheek that would have wide spread appeal and maybe make some money for this site.. Not something dorky and boring that 5% of members will buy

well most people are incredibly unattractive, so what can you do?

Make it for a shirt that has a pocket.

I like the Cincinnati Brand T's slogan from "nati evolvement" ...

"Find your soul in the city" ... I think it promotes an urban lifestyle in the city and since most of our cities are old(er) it's relevant.

Any...one?

Chris you know Illustrator; I've seen your LArch portfolio. I bet you could design some dope UO gear :)

Is anyone even thinking about designing one?

When the insanity of work and whatnot that has consumed my life subsides in the next week, I'd like to put something together. Has no one else submitted anything? We have some design students who could use the exposure and beefing up their portfolio, where are you folks?

I'm still incredibly busy...I'm not sure when things will let up, but if I do get some time I'll be sure to throw something together.

Chris isn't doing it :).

I like these existing designs:

T-shirt across the chest or small embroider on a polo (front side only)

I think all of the logos boxed in a stripe across the front and back would look cool

I agree, nothing on the back.

I don't know.  A friend of mine once had a green T-shirt that only had a design on the back.  There was nothing at all on the front.  I thought it was pretty cool.  I agree that I don't like a big design on the back and a small one on the front, but I wouldn't mind seeing a non-white T with a plain front and the urbanohio logo on the back across the shoulders.

what about some kind of defend urban ohio tee? (it sure beats ed hardy style tees).

defendheathershirt.jpg

wait. a faux ed hardy might be funny?

maybe someone could take ed hardy off and write in urban ohio in script?

wish i knew how to do this kind of thing. sorry. but i'll wear whatever the final product when its done.

^ ha. good job. i say funny. i like it.

i thought we had waaay more people on here able to do this kind of graphic design thing?

We do and they are being lazy!  And this is for MONEY!!!!

It's for 50 dollars! That's hardly money. Make it 500 and I'll give you a Fall collection.

Hey, 50 dollars is better than just taking your design and simply not paying you a dime!

My bad, I'm on the nicotine patch step 2 and its making me irritable.

The contest shouldn't even be about money. For most of us, this site is a second home. I'm gonna sketch some designs first tonight. I have some ideas.

Only 8 days left until the deadline.  Anyone want to guess how many submissions we have so far???    HINT:  Whatever you think it is, multiply it by 0 and that's the answer.

Awe mine doesn't count?  I knew it was bad, but....

---okay I'm done crying in the corner.

OK Kids....I know you whippersnappers can come up with something.

Easy to see who is in management here.

You're the "fashion guru".

I had Adobe illustrator open, but then I fell asleep and now I'm on the internet....as you can see.

You're the "fashion guru".

And the guru is providing a special secret gift in addition to the $50!

Damnit!

Do we have to extend this deadline AGAIN!?!?

I have some stuff in the works. I'll get back in here, 4 days at most. I'm setting that deadline for myself in this thread so that I'll follow through with it lol

Are 1pt pen strokes okay for printing on T-Shirts? I'm assuming it's alright but I'm not sure how well lines show up when they're really thin on fabric.

Sure.

I have Illustrator open

I'll post up 3-4 designs in about an hour.

.

Hayward, do you by any chance have the insanely ridiculously overpriced pro version of sketchup? I just thought of a good idea for a element that could go on the shirt if you still plan on designing one. Importing a CLE/CIN/COL 3D downtown into Sketchup Pro from Google Earth, then using the tools in sketchup to make a wire frame or outline, making it more abstract. The only problem is that it would be rasterized but you could trace a vector of it in illustrator.

You make some of the best, detailed sketchup models I've ever seen. If you have any of neighborhoods, that would be perfect for a shirt. Even that one you showed me of (Roger's Park or Evanston, can't remember which) would probably work since those styles can be found here. You should give it a shot (or hand your 3D models  over to me if you don't have time )

This one is really cool, David. I'd wear it. Some ideas that I thought about: what if the neighborhood grid was larger (by scale or grid) and it wrapped around the side under the armpit area, from half back to half front?

gridtcv5.jpg

Thanks. That's my favorite one too.

I really like the composition as it is. I like how it's so rigid and breaks into the negative space.

I think I could make that concept work though. Maybe the building mass wrapping under the armpit could be more subtle by increasing the opacity or using thinner lines.

Has anyone here ever had Tshirts printed before? Do printers even pay attention to composition? I'm sure most of the stuff they get is centered on the front side. Is it one of those situations where you have to drill it in their heads how important it is that they don't screw it up? A design like the one above would be completely ruined if it was 4 inches off.
