Seriously - go to a reputable printer; provide them with a mockup like you've posted above. Explain to them very clearly how you want the image to appear. If they fail to produce a satisfactory result, fail to pay them.

Unlike you, I work with printers (in every medium) on a daily basis and unlike you, I realize that they're not just production drones who "don't even pay attention" - they're skilled people who keep getting business by listening to their clients and doing their jobs right. I've also worked for a printing company and your tone was representative of the condescending @ssholes who figured they knew more about our business than we did, and looked down upon us "production people".

Are 1pt pen strokes okay for printing on T-Shirts? I'm assuming it's alright but I'm not sure how well lines show up when they're really thin on fabric.

 

David, in my experience silkscreening, I believe 1 pt was fine. The thicker the line the better (because the thinner the line is, the more the chance of ink clogging up the screen is and not making as clear of a print), but I definitely wouldn't go lower than that. That is, if you're actually going to a silkscreening place to print this, which is what I would recommend.

What I would recommend is asking for a test sample of the print, which any place should really be able to give you, I think. If not, I would call around and see if you can find someplace that does.

 

I think it's a valid question, MayDay. I don't trust printers farther than I can throw them. I would strongly recommend getting a test sample shirt before okaying the full job to get printed.

Someone else is gonna have to design the shirt. I didn't spend 20 hours putting sh!t together after no one else did, to hear MayDay b!tch at me for asking a simple question about composition.

As jpop said, you'd want to get a test sample and if someone is reluctant to offer that, move on to someone who wants your business. That should go without saying. And maybe it's because I'm not in school, I've actually been working as a designer for 15 years, but I'm friends with printers who I can trust enough with a job. Sure there was a learning curve for both of us, but if I had started off with "do you guys even pay attention..."?

If anyone is good with color, feel free to steer me in the right direction. I'm colorblind so I see a lot of colors differently. I'm going to keep working on these.

 

Also, does anyone know where I can get a free vectorizor program or vectorizor plug-in for photoshop?

 

 

 

One thing on the color- "Black and Gold" are the Steeler's team colors.

I'll see if I can swipe a raster --> vector program at work.  I "vectorized" a few images with it and it worked well.

Do you remember what the program is called?

I think the stars are a bit much. I felt it would add to the vibe but maybe it would be better off without it. Too flamboyant/showy.

For what it's worth, I agree. I just think it's old hat already .. not that it's too flamboyant.

Can we get that map of Ohio's urban areas represented by dots on a t-shirt?  One of you designed it when we were looking for a  new logo.

I don't think I'm going to change any colors or anything on the retro design because I haven't gotten much positive feedback on it. I think this one has a lot more potential.

Besides, the more ppl submit, the better the shirt/shirts will be. You guys can't be THAT busy. Hell, there are real, experienced architects and urban designers on here that absolutely know photoshop and illustrator and could probably put something together in only a few hours. I bet CDawg even knows his way around Adobe programs from being in a communication major.

At work, yes. It's mostly 20' x 4' banners and 8' x 3' panels for an "entry island" aka a 40' wide by 10' tall form that goes over a series of conference room doors - I'm just glad they only need 100 dpi for these beasts.

How about I disable the site for 24 hours to give everyone time to make a design?  Well those with design skills anyway, everyone else can just enjoy a peaceful day without UO.
