October 7, 200816 yr "Do printers even pay attention to composition? I'm sure most of the stuff they get is centered on the front side. Is it one of those situations where you have to drill it in their heads how important it is that they don't screw it up? A design like the one above would be completely ruined if it was 4 inches off." This coming from the same person who had to be told how to properly spray Windex?!? Seriously - go to a reputable printer; provide them with a mockup like you've posted above. Explain to them very clearly how you want the image to appear. If they fail to produce a satisfactory result, fail to pay them. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

Unlike you, I work with printers (in every medium) on a daily basis and unlike you, I realize that they're not just production drones who "don't even pay attention" - they're skilled people who keep getting business by listening to their clients and doing their jobs right. I've also worked for a printing company and your tone was representative of the condescending @ssholes who figured they knew more about our business than we did, and looked down upon us "production people". clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 7, 200816 yr Are 1pt pen strokes okay for printing on T-Shirts? I'm assuming it's alright but I'm not sure how well lines show up when they're really thin on fabric. David, in my experience silkscreening, I believe 1 pt was fine. The thicker the line the better (because the thinner the line is, the more the chance of ink clogging up the screen is and not making as clear of a print), but I definitely wouldn't go lower than that. That is, if you're actually going to a silkscreening place to print this, which is what I would recommend.
October 7, 200816 yr Alright, no need to be a condescending @sshole. I agree. What I would recommend is asking for a test sample of the print, which any place should really be able to give you, I think. If not, I would call around and see if you can find someplace that does. I think it's a valid question, MayDay. I don't trust printers farther than I can throw them. I would strongly recommend getting a test sample shirt before okaying the full job to get printed.
October 7, 200816 yr Someone else is gonna have to design the shirt. I didn't spend 20 hours putting sh!t together after no one else did, to hear MayDay b!tch at me for asking a simple question about composition. You know the ins and outs of this stuff so well, YOU design the shirt.
October 7, 200816 yr Correct me if I'm wrong - you're in school for a design-related field and you think *I* was a little harsh? For god's sake, I'm trying to tell you something that will help you down the road. All I'm saying is - your tone was rather pompous - as though *every* printer out there just runs sh!t through and ruins every job unless you nanny them. As jpop said, you'd want to get a test sample and if someone is reluctant to offer that, move on to someone who wants your business. That should go without saying. And maybe it's because I'm not in school, I've actually been working as a designer for 15 years, but I'm friends with printers who I can trust enough with a job. Sure there was a learning curve for both of us, but if I had started off with "do you guys even pay attention..."? "Someone else is gonna have to design the shirt." That's unfortunate, I think your work on this is fantastic. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 7, 200816 yr I agree. I thought was a good go 'round. Now - Man up and don't be 'wuss!
October 7, 200816 yr ok, i did not see any of the designs that you made david except for the one that Cincinnatus posted and I would wear it everyday if I could.
October 7, 200816 yr Yeah, I didn't see any designs either so uh...bring it back! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 7, 200816 yr The one still posted and the one David called "vintage" were both da bomb, IMHO... bring 'em back...please...
October 8, 200816 yr ok, i did not see any of the designs that you made david except for the one that Cincinnatus posted and I would wear it everyday if I could. I'll second that. Damn nice!
October 8, 200816 yr If anyone is good with color, feel free to steer me in the right direction. I'm colorblind so I see a lot of colors differently. I'm going to keep working on these. Also, does anyone know where I can get a free vectorizor program or vectorizor plug-in for photoshop?
October 8, 200816 yr I'll see if I can swipe a raster --> vector program at work. I "vectorized" a few images with it and it worked well.
October 8, 200816 yr Folks, we need more designs!!! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 10, 200816 yr ^Thanks Cdawg, Rich. Me: "Hey what do you think of this design" (the retro one) Friend: "Too 80s. The other one is more current. The yellow skyline reminds me of Frasier". lol I think the stars are a bit much. I felt it would add to the vibe but maybe it would be better off without it. Too flamboyant/showy.

For what it's worth, I agree. I just think it's old hat already .. not that it's too flamboyant.
October 10, 200816 yr Can we get that map of Ohio's urban areas represented by dots on a t-shirt? One of you designed it when we were looking for a new logo.
October 10, 200816 yr Just Photoshop the word Urban at the top, Leveque and Key Towers in for the silos, a flying pig in for the cow, and that'd be perfect.
October 13, 200816 yr David! You rock! I think the last one could use a little tweaking. Man, I really wish I had some good ideas...
October 13, 200816 yr thats some damn cool designs..it can't be easy to incorporate all the major city landmarks into one concise design
October 13, 200816 yr David! You rock! I think the last one could use a little tweaking. Thanks. (You too, Flee2theCleve), but how do you want to see it tweaked? I'll post that version up too if you explain what you'd like to see changed. I don't think I'm going to change any colors or anything on the retro design because I haven't gotten much positive feedback on it. I think this one has a lot more potential.
October 14, 200816 yr Love the designs, David. Folks, keep the designs commin'! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 14, 200816 yr Can you guys please come up with some t shirts? I don't want to win this contest from being the only person to design something. It's like I won the door prize at the party but I'm the only person that showed up! Besides, the more ppl submit, the better the shirt/shirts will be. You guys can't be THAT busy. Hell, there are real, experienced architects and urban designers on here that absolutely know photoshop and illustrator and could probably put something together in only a few hours. I bet CDawg even knows his way around Adobe programs from being in a communication major.
October 16, 200816 yr Look what I found! Oops, wrong forum LOL @ losing to Toledo. Michigan is a worthless craphole.
October 17, 200816 yr "You guys can't be THAT busy." October 17, 200816 yr "You guys can't be THAT busy." Designing seven thousand square feet of tradeshow signage You must have a LOT of RAM :-o Lawwwwwd. I could go so many places with that one!
October 21, 200816 yr You must have a LOT of RAM :-o At work, yes. It's mostly 20' x 4' banners and 8' x 3' panels for an "entry island" aka a 40' wide by 10' tall form that goes over a series of conference room doors - I'm just glad they only need 100 dpi for these beasts. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 23, 200816 yr How about I disable the site for 24 hours to give everyone time to make a design? Well those with design skills anyway, everyone else can just enjoy a peaceful day without UO.
October 24, 200816 yr Just ban everyone with graphic design skills until they submit an acceptable entry!

October 24, 200816 yr I dunno. Black version White version Uh... imagine sleeves and stuff. And a ".com" on there somewhere?
October 24, 200816 yr Alright, I just stole these off the Logo Thread, because I want to get the ideas moving... ForeverGlow: KOOW's color test: cle2032: And then, of course, my design: ...and yeah, what is this? Someone already made an UrbanOhio t-shirt? http://www.zazzle.com/urbanohio_shirt-235708869037913173
