Posted August 31, 200816 yr This was the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant where the first Model Ts were built.
August 31, 200816 yr It is a museum, still haven't been inside but I plan on it sometime. http://www.tplex.org/1_overview.html
September 2, 200816 yr I was there in 2003, when it was pretty much just a shell. It was still an awesome experience though...the building is so freaking long! At the time they had a few displays on easels, and a chair in the location of Ford's office, where thought and effort went into the development of the Model T. Many people think 'Highland Park' when they think of the Model T, but as you said, this is its birthplace--this is where the car that changed world was first built. Obviously, Highland Park because the assembly line was implemented there, but I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that this building had a huge impact on history, which is felt in our lives today. (Actually, some argue that the rudimentary beginnings of Ford's assembly line occurred at Piquette.) Aside from the unbelievable historical importance, this building benefitted from having a very dedicated champion, Dr. Fred Mitchell, and a capable board working for it.
