Posted August 31, 200816 yr Much like College Corner and Union City, Harrison's business district straddles the Ohio-Indiana line. The majority of the business district lies in the Ohio city with just a couple buildings stretching into West Harrison, Indiana which has a population of less than 300 compared to 7000+ in Harrison, Ohio. Most of Union City's downtown lies in Indiana and College Corner is pretty evenly split, so it seems fitting that Ohio took Harrison. (Indiana) (Indiana)
September 1, 200816 yr Hey, Ink, I've visited Harrison more than a few times. Did you know that US 52 used to run through there along the main drag before it was rerouted on I-74? I got some pictures a few years ago; a friend I know collects pictures of highways and I helped him with this one, particularly where it crossed the state line. Was the state line marked when you went through? It wasn't when I was there in 2005. US 52 also used to run on Harrison Avenue west of Cincinnati; now it's Hamilton CR 457 if memory serves.
September 1, 200816 yr ^I didn't notice any signs indicting the state line, but the division--of course--is at State Street.
September 2, 200816 yr I know Harrison! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 3, 200816 yr I have always wanted to visit Harrison when passing through on I-74 and seeing "Historic Harrison" signs when traveling between Cincy & Indy. Thanks for posting!
September 5, 200816 yr how the hell did i miss this?!? My hometown! Well, Harrison Township, but whatever, crazy. Downtown Harrison applied for that Main Street program money a while back and put some nice investment...and it shows. A lot of sprawl happening out there, potentially hurting downtown Harrison. The city people fought off a Wal-Mart so good for them.
September 5, 200816 yr There are some odd color combinations on several of those buildings...ohh Harrison.
September 5, 200816 yr My favorite part of Harrison is the Larosa's sign that says, "Welcome Home". It is refreshing after coming in from Indiana. My least favorite is the state trooper that is waiting to offer us a "welcoming package"
