Posted September 2, 200816 yr This is the fifth Riverfest I have been to since moving to Cincinnati in 2003 and this was the first time I wasn’t on the serpentine wall. While part of me missed the “action” of being down on the wall, I couldn’t complain since I was invited to watch the fireworks from atop Lytle Place. I did manage to get down to Yeatman’s Cove for the obligatory spinning of the Crown Victoria wheel for used casino freebees and some campaign stickers but other than that, I just stuck to shooting some photos while I worked my way through the crowd. Cincinnati must have really struck a deal with the gods above because every year during Riverfest the weather is just perfect and this year was no different. To top it off, I was able to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen here. With no haze, and deep yellow and orange hues, it was a site to see from Lytle Place. One problem I encountered from the 26th floor of Lytle Place was being too close to the fireworks. I did not have my 10-20mm wide angle lens with me and the fireworks typically exploded outside of my focal length. So with that being said, my photos don’t give the Riverfest fireworks justice. Alas... Mt. Adams Taft Museum of Art Mt. Adams at night
September 2, 200816 yr Wow...amazing stuff. I've never noticed that clock in the first shot until just now. SouthShore also looks to be coming along nicely...can't wait to get back. These are wonderful.
September 2, 200816 yr Gorgeous photos! I've never had a seat in my six years of attending Riverfest where I could see the low ones on the river and the waterfalls off the bridges. I never thought I was missing that much but I was definately wrong..
September 2, 200816 yr Beautiful photos. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 3, 200816 yr Wow, what a majestic city. Excellent shots Rando, I think that clock is new. I'm not entirely positive, but I remember reading an article about a new clock like that somewhere downtown.
September 3, 200816 yr Oh, I've seen that clock for a few years. In fact, there is probably a shot of it in a photo thread around here somewhere.
September 3, 200816 yr Oh, I've seen that clock for a few years. In fact, there is probably a shot of it in a photo thread around here somewhere. It wasn't there when Google Street View went buy (probably within the last year) http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=4th+and+broadway,+cincinnati,+oh&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=title ..and it's not in this shot from OTRFAN's March 2006 "4th Street Stroll" thread: So, you must be thinking of a different clock. It appears to be a Verdin Clock, which is a Cincinnati company...so I'm sure they have other's scattered around town.
September 4, 200816 yr Here is the clock from January 2008. It looks much better than the crappy pole that it replaced.
September 4, 200816 yr And to think I was mocked for posting this... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,333.msg231909.html#msg231909
September 4, 200816 yr Great photos, love this one: http://www.pbase.com/cincyimages/image/102528386/original.jpg May I ask, where were you shooting from and what lens did you use?
September 5, 200816 yr I watched the fireworks from the far end of the walkway you are standing on. I'm short so I stood on top the flower garden thing at the bottom of the pic so i could see over everyones head. It was the best view that I've ever had of the fireworks.
