April 29, 20169 yr ^ thats great news to bring the ferry service back. that was always the fun way to go.
April 29, 20169 yr This is definitely great news! Also, with the Jet Express being the service provider, they plan on continuing to Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay after stopping at Cedar Point....super smart idea connecting all of the local tourist destinations. An encouraging quote from the article for the future: "Moving forward, what I would like to see is developing more of a water-taxi service, between Cedar Point Marina and downtown Sandusky, with more frequent departures." — Lance Woodworth, Jet Express general manager EDIT: Oh yeah, it's only $5 for a one-way trip. Not bad considering you won't have to pay for parking or sit in traffic (saving time and gas).
April 29, 20169 yr Yeah, it's excellent. Now they need to turn downtown Sandusky into something more and it'll be on its way to a renaissance. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 17, 20168 yr So Mean Streak is now closed. Some of the rumors for what happens with the ride next are promising. I rode it a few weeks back and it was as terrible as I remember, but some renovations (as speculated) could restore it into a decent roller coaster. That said... As I was watching the "late rites" being read for Mean Streak from last night, I do find it a bit ironic that Cedar Fair put on a tongue-in-cheek goodbye ceremony for this piece of crap 25 year old coaster that few people really liked and let guests ride it one last time, but they wouldn't even give generations of Geauga Lake fans a final chance to visit the 100+ year-old park and ride its rides in 2007 when it closed. Geauga Lake closed 9 years to the day yesterday.
February 27, 20178 yr Melt Bar & Grill Opens at Cedar Point this Summer Two Ohio experiences are coming together this summer, when Cleveland-born Melt Bar & Grilled plans to open its ninth location at Cedar Point. “We see visiting Melt like riding a roller coaster,” said Matt Fish, owner and founder, in a press release. “There’s a lot of anticipation; then the thrill, and as soon as it’s over, you want to go again.” More below: http://www.columbusunderground.com/melt-bar-grill-opens-at-cedar-point-this-summer-ls1 "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
February 27, 20178 yr Yes!!!!!!!!! I've been saying for YEARS that CP needed to partner with Cleveland restaurants and up its (frankly terrible) food offerings. Maybe they can convince Michael Symon to open a B Spot at the park too. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
February 27, 20178 yr Just saw some recently taken photos of the Rocky Mountain Construction renovation of Mean Streak. So far this is what has been finished. - Little pre-lift hill which can be found on other RMC coasters. - Lift hill is now significantly steeper than previously. Assuming it peaks at a similar point horizontally it very well might be over 200' tall making it the tallest hybrid coaster out there. - First turn after drop is wonky AF and looks like it'll provide some weird sideways ejector airtime, something RMC seems to love. It's already looking exciting and it has just begun. I'm hoping they keep it long like it was previously. RMC coasters are great, but they're all short. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but a 5,000+ foot long RMC that's over 200' tall would be incredible.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but a 5,000+ foot long RMC that's over 200' tall would be incredible. Completely agree about RMC Mean Streak, it looks like they are doing some pretty massive changes and that second hill looks bizarre. Lightning Rod is the only RMC I've been on and it's great but way too short. I really hope they keep the length and the final portion of the ride weaving in and out of the wooden structure. That was the best/only good part of the OG Mean Streak.
February 27, 20178 yr I'm glad it isn't turning into a carbon copy of New Texas Giant, at least what we've seen so far. At any rate, I'll bet in 2018 the CP&LE Railroad will manage to steal back the top ridership from Gatekeeper! Between this ride and Maverick, Frontiertown is going to be forever doomed to being absolutely slammed with people. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
March 6, 20178 yr I'll never forgive Cedar Fair for that. Companies that pull that kind of move need to be shamed publicly. Even worse because the company was based in Northeast Ohio and they had no excuse for not knowing that Geauga Lake was a Cleveland institution. But I have mostly forgiven them because there's nothing else that can be done about it. And Cedar Point truly is an asset worth supporting.
July 18, 20177 yr Cedar Point's former Mean Streak coaster gets taller, wilder; new name to come By Susan Glaser Cedar Point's newest roller coaster will debut in spring 2018, a remake of the wooden giant Mean Streak, which is getting a new steel track, a higher first hill and at least three inversions. Cedar Point held a hard-hat tour of the construction site at the back of the park for members of the media Tuesday morning. Although officials released few details of the new ride - we don't yet know what it will be called - some key features were readily apparent: * The new coaster will feature a first hill considerably higher than Mean Streak's 161-foot top drop. Scott Short, with the American Coaster Enthusiasts, eyeballed the hill - still under construction - at higher than 200 feet. * The first hill looks to have a near-vertical drop, according to steel beams mounted on the coaster's wood frame. * At least three inversions are being added in the remake. Mean Streak didn't flip riders upside down at all. MORE: http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2017/07/cedar_points_former_mean_strea.html
August 16, 20177 yr Cedar Point just had their announcement of the Mean Streak - RMC conversion. Press Release: https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/17/08/n9940217/tallest-fastest-wildest-cedar-point-introduces-entirely-new-classificat The Wildest Ride Cedar Point Has Ever Built Steel Vengeance will offer riders unmatched intensity through a relentless series of dynamic movements on this innovative coaster. Riders will board one of three trains and climb 205 feet above FrontierTown. Once they crest the lift hill, they'll be staring straight down a 90-degree initial drop and a 200-foot fall to earth. Multiple airtime hills follow, including the world's fastest airtime hill ever created on a hybrid roller coaster, and a 116-foot-tall outer-banked hill placing riders on an outward tilt while moving forward. Steel Vengeance will also debut the first-of-its-kind "Twisted Snake Dive." In this new maneuver, the coaster's train will enter a half-barrel roll, hang upside-down for a brief moment and then turn back in the direction of travel, not completing a full roll. The coaster's figure-eight layout will create a fast-paced journey with multiple airtime hills, twists and dives, overbanked turns and surprise maneuvers. The entire ride will last approximately 2 minutes, 30 seconds. "This is another roller coaster that only Cedar Point could build – tallest, fastest and longest of its kind with four inversions and the exciting movements the hybrid design can achieve," said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "There are so many unexpected moments on Steel Vengeance, it's just plain twisted. It'll be an extremely wild experience for our guests." The World's First "Hyper-Hybrid" Steel Vengeance introduces a new classification of roller coaster – the "hyper-hybrid." The coaster not only combines a hybrid construction of smooth steel track set atop a wood support structure, but also reaches a height of over 200 feet – the defining feature of a "hyper-coaster." It marks the fourth classification of roller coaster introduced by Cedar Point as the park's ever-higher roller coasters have needed new categories to define them. Previous roller coasters that were world's firsts include Magnum XL-200 – a "hyper-coaster," a term given to any roller coaster that breaks a 200-foot height; Millennium Force – the world's first "giga-coaster," a coaster eclipsing a 300-foot height; and Top Thrill Dragster – the world's first "strata-coaster," soaring over 400 feet tall. Another World Record Breaker With the addition of Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point will once again shatter both roller coaster and amusement park records. These records include: World's tallest hybrid roller coaster (205 feet) World's fastest hybrid roller coaster (74 mph) World's steepest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (90 degrees) World's longest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (200 feet) World's longest hybrid roller coaster (5,740 feet) Most inversions on a hybrid roller coaster (4) Fastest airtime hill on a hybrid roller coaster (73 mph) Most airtime on a hybrid roller coaster (27.2 seconds) Most airtime on any roller coaster (27.2 seconds) World's first "hyper-hybrid" roller coaster Most roller coaster track at one amusement park (60,423 feet/11.4 miles) Most steel roller coaster track at one amusement park (57,865 feet/11 miles) Most roller coasters over 200 feet tall at one amusement park (6) Most rides at one amusement park (71) Most roller coasters with a first drop of 90 degrees or more at one amusement park (5) Steel Vengeance is being constructed by the roller coaster engineers and builders at Rocky Mountain Construction, an Idaho company that specializes in the reconstruction and re-imagination of traditional wooden roller coasters. They're Coming. But Who Are "They?" Throughout the summer of 2017, the park released clues about the ride on social media, all referencing the word, "they." The story of Steel Vengeance will be told through three new outlaws who have banded together to "unsaddle" the reign of Maverick, FrontierTown's low-to-the-ground, double-launching roller coaster. Throughout the winter months, guests will learn more about Jackson "Blackjack" Chamberlain, Chess "Wild One" Watkins and Wyatt "Digger" Dempsey. So there is also a rumor that they will be making updates to FrontierTown with this coaster (needed), and from that last paragraph I'm wondering if that means the addition of some smaller flat rides. Another rumor is that Kings Island is getting the Antique Cars back, and as Cedar Point has two the thought is that the ones back there may be leaving.
August 16, 20177 yr Those records are petty. You can make any rollercoaster or amusement park look good by using records that specific. "Most air-time on a hybrid, right before a loopty-loop." You can just make sh!t up, for the coaster's own advantage.
August 16, 20177 yr Steel Vengeance?!?!? Nooooooooooooo!!!! (I'm still going to ride the h#ll out of this, though.) “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

August 16, 20177 yr The name is pretty lame, but this ride is going to be absolutely incredible. Also, having a lame name doesn't matter (Mystic Timbers anyone?) It does make me jealous to see them turn a giant wooden POS into a great ride that is over 200 feet however. If only Son of Beast could have lasted long enough to get the RMC treatment.

You can just make sh!t up, for the coaster's own advantage. Its the most airtime on any coaster, which is kinda a big deal for some people. Also, something I found after looking into their season passes, they are now offering a pre-k pass. This is a free pass for 3-5 year olds. You need to register online, and prove they are that age (copy of Birth Certificate works) the first visit, but still pretty good for those of us with small children.

The name... well, I'm not going to say any more. Yeah.... Ehh, I understand your point and its really like what any company does when they do something new; find the most ways to make it stand out with quick bullet points. The more important stats are the park wide/overall records. The Air Time and Most Coasters over 200 ft I think are big ones to note. Also, I don't know if they will ever get the "most coasters" title again. Even with this ride they have 18 coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountian has 19, so either MM needs to lose one or CP needs to go for two. Now their 150th anniversary is in 2020 so who knows what they may pull off for that.
August 16, 20177 yr If only Son of Beast could have lasted long enough to get the RMC treatment. Amen. And yes, the name is terrible but the ride is going to be amazing. But let's be real...Cedar Fair has always had horrible names for their rides. The stripper coaster they just built at Kings Island, "Twisted Timbers" at KD, and I'm not going to even mention that ridiculous name Mantis became. August 16, 20177 yr Honestly "Flying Spaghetti Monster" would have been a far superior name and theme for Mantis; I'm still bitter that they bastardized my baby (although I think that sentiment is only shared with like five other Mantis ride operators - our exit reviews were always terrible!) “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
October 28, 20177 yr Cedar Point to tear down hotel, sports venue By Jon Chavez | BLADE BUSINESS WRITER Published on Oct. 25, 2017 | Updated 12:18 a. m. Comments SANDUSKY — Come next spring, Cedar Point amusement park will be missing two long-standing and well-known structures on its summer tourist playground. A wrecking ball soon will knock down the 187-room Sandcastle Suites Hotel, located at the tip of the Cedar Point Peninsula, and also the park’s Extreme Sports Stadium (formerly the Aquatic Stadium) located on the east side of the park near the Wicked Twister roller coaster. The changes were announced this week on the park’s “OnPoint” blog. No information was provided as to what will be put in place of the hotel and stadium. Spokesmen for both Cedar Point and its parent firm, Cedar Fair LP, said plans for the spaces remain “under wraps” for now. http://www.toledoblade.com/business/2017/10/25/Cedar-Point-to-tear-down-hotel-sports-venue.html
October 28, 20177 yr I got stuck scrubbing the seagull s**t off of the Aquatic/Extreme Sports Stadium for like six hours one time when I worked at CP, so I will NOT be missing that structure! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
November 27, 20177 yr Cedar Fair announces Hotel Breakers expansion SANDUSKY — Cedar Point will open a new five-story, 158-room addition to Hotel Breakers in May. The expansion will bring the hotel’s total number of rooms to 669. The expansion will build on land adjacent to the historic hotel, near the Cedar Point Beach. The new rooms will have premium bedding and amenities, and many will have balconies with great views of Lake Erie and Cedar Point, Cedar Fair executives said. There will also be an outdoor pool and a sun deck next to the beach. FULL STORY: http://www.sanduskyregister.com/story/201711020022
March 12, 20187 yr The weather will be breaking soon enough. :) Who's ready to ride "Steel Vengeance"? Lmao. Sorry, I can't get over that name. I don't think this video was ever posted.
March 12, 20187 yr SteVe does look amazing. Haven't been to cedar point in a couple years, but plan on visiting this year for sure.
March 12, 20187 yr I always enjoyed Mean Streak when I first was old enough for roller coasters, but over the years it got too rough for me to ride. This seems like a smart move on their part to update the ride without throwing out the whole thing. Such great views of the park and it's such a nice, long ride.
March 12, 20187 yr SteVe does look amazing. Haven't been to cedar point in a couple years, but plan on visiting this year for sure. Please for the love of god don't call it that. I hate people that call Millennium Force "Millie". Regardless this does look amazing, and should keep the park at record attendance for another year. This will be a good year to get quick rides on Raptor and maybe Millennium as everyone gets sucked to the back of the park. On another CP note, they are going to create a Resort and Attraction Management major in conjunction with BGSU. It is interesting as the only other university that has something like it is Central Florida in conjunction with WDW. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2018/03/cedar_fair_bowling_green_state.html Cedar Fair, Bowling Green State University partner to offer new tourism degree in Sandusky SANDUSKY, Ohio - There's more to working at an amusement park than operating rides and filling drink cups. There's accounting and marketing, customer relations and safety regulations. Those topics, and more, will make up a new four-year degree offered by Bowling Green State University, in a partnership with the city of Sandusky and Cedar Fair, the parent company of Cedar Point. The new degree in Resort and Attraction Management will be offered at a new BGSU campus in downtown Sandusky, set to open as soon as the fall of 2020.

LMAO I hate people that call Millennium Force "Millie". Haha. Ol' Millie :) Steel Vengeance is an example of adaptive re-use, right? You gotta love it. Who doesn't love hybrids, anyway?
March 12, 20187 yr Haha, I don't use any nicknames for rides at Cedar Point or Kings Island, but I find the SteVe nickname way too funny to pass up. Also Steel Vengence is not a good name, and in reality I'll always think of it as Mean Streak just like I still call "flight deck" Top Gun, and "rougarou" Mantis etc...

Does Cedar Point have Gold Passes? Then you could ride SteVe all night long. :D but over the years it got too rough for me to ride. You guys are killing me.
March 12, 20187 yr Why is that exactly? Mean Streak was pretty well known for beating the $h1t out of people...
March 13, 20187 yr Haha, I don't use any nicknames for rides at Cedar Point or Kings Island, but I find the SteVe nickname way too funny to pass up. Also Steel Vengence is not a good name, and in reality I'll always think of it as Mean Streak just like I still call "flight deck" Top Gun, and "rougarou" Mantis etc... Cedar Point, despite having the greatest collection of coasters overall, may have the worst names for almost all of their major rides. Magnum XL 200 (that is the full name though no one uses it), Millenium Force, Steel Vengance, Wicked Twister, Iron Dragon, Power Tower. Maverick, Gemini, and Corkscrew are easily their best named rides. Another thing that was added for this coming season is a Boardwalk that stretches from the front parking lot all along the beach past Breakers. This will hopefully help some of their parking problems that they had with the water park last year. We keep our boat there and there were some afternoons when the road to get back there was bumper to bumper all the way to the marina. My excitement for the expanded boardwalk is solely due to them adding an outdoor bar along said boardwalk, and appropriately named "Sandbar". Cocktails and sunsets this summer.
April 25, 20187 yr Media Day for Steel Vengeance was early this morning, and it looks as crazy as expected. New POV video from Cedar Point below: It looks like something out of a cartoon! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
April 25, 20187 yr I seriously can't wait to ride. RMC has managed to have put out purely hits. Not a single one of their rides is bad and his is the largest of them. It looks incredible. I'm really happy they didn't pull a "Six Flags" and cut the ride's length short. Iron Rattler at Fiesta Texas looks awesome, but SO much of its length was cut out. Same with the upcoming Twisted Cyclone. I feel like they're missing an opportunity to make the most of their RMC conversions. But back to Steel Vengeance, it looks amazing. I have a feeling that the outward banking hill/turn and the final run through the structure will be the highlights of the ride. I'm looking forward to reviews from fellow enthusiasts since I don't know if I'll be able to make it back to Ohio this summer to ride.
April 25, 20187 yr I am really glad to be a marina member this season, platinum pass included with dockage so I get an hour early entry. Pretty sure that the only time I will ride as a 2+ hour wait is going to be insane. Although maybe Millennium Force and other rides will benefit with drastically reduced wait times. I don't recall a ride being installed with there being this much hype surrounding it since I have been up here. That was 2005 though so I was not around for all the build up to Millennium or Top Thrill Dragster, were they at all like this? I don't recall Maverick, Gatekepper, or even Valraven having this much hype.
April 25, 20187 yr ^Millenium Force was incredible. The hype around it was more similar to that of a skyscraper going up or a company moving an HQ to it. I remember I was in 4th grade when it went up, and probably 2/3 of my class did their current events project on the Millenium Force that spring. Top Thrill was also hyped, but not even close to Millenium.
April 25, 20187 yr ^Millenium Force was incredible. The hype around it was more similar to that of a skyscraper going up or a company moving an HQ to it. If Cedar Point's roller coaster hills were actually skyscrapers, its "skyline" would be comparable to that of one of Ohio's second-tier cities, and Top Thrill Dragster is actually taller than the tallest buildings in Akron, Toledo, or Dayton. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
May 23, 20196 yr 2018 Stats are out. Cedar Point is the USA's most attended seasonal park (Canada's Wonderland is the most attended in the western hemisphere). Kings Island was not too far behind at #2 in the USA. https://www.aecom.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Theme-Index-Museum-Index-2018-2.pdf "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

June 14, 20196 yr What regional benefits Cedar Fair being based in Sandusky may have buying all these parks across the country with the added rev? Just wondering of any positive impacts to the region in the future such as expansions, new parks etc. or anything else I may not think of. Do you think Cedar Fair has loyalty or any favorable biases to Northern Ohio now that it's becoming more of a national company?? Edited June 14, 20196 yr by Mildtraumatic
June 14, 20196 yr Cedar Point is still their baby, and it shows, even with all of the major amounts of money they've dumped into Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, and Knott's in the past few years. I don't see them moving their HQ off the peninsula any time soon. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

Keep in mind, the new CEO of Cedar Fair has made his offices in Charlotte instead of the Sandusky headquarters location. That being said, he did publicly commit to keeping Cedar Fair's headquarters in Sandusky. Also, Cedar Point is by far their most successful property. The more lucrative part of the amusement industry today is less about the parks themselves, but about the resort experience surrounding the parks. No other Cedar Fair park has as much potential as Cedar Point when it comes to a full resort experience and extended stays.
June 14, 20196 yr Charlotte, ugh. Doesn't make sense having offices there when their headquarters are in Ohio. Understand Ohio due to weather has short window to have park open. Just wish the could expand park somehow.
