June 16, 20195 yr Yeah, CP and KI are still their busiest parks and CP is the only one that is really a true “resort” so I don’t know why they’d want to leave when the Point needs the most varied operational assistance, etc. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
July 4, 20195 yr Expansion! I've been hoping for this. 50 acres of undeveloped land! Wonder how they will connect it all? Found this on facebook. https://www.nbc4i.com/news/cedar-point-makes-surprise-235-acre-expansion-with-purchase-of-nearby-sawmill-creek-resort/?fbclid=IwAR27weTtO1wgZCCdzWKxps1xHe-PbtbIlLaJxiepZtUd9cy0lfQQF0Quk-o Guess it wont be expansion of the amusement park itself. July 10, 20195 yr Quite possibly this could lead to the demolition of Hotel Breakers, Light house Point etc for future park expansion. Have offsite lodging with shuttles. Seems like a long shot but this is what I imagine

They literally just built a new Breakers addition and demoed Light House Point in the same year. With the addition of Sport Force Park they most likely just building their hotel options.
July 10, 20195 yr CP has a LOT more land on the peninsula for expansion than people seem to realize. There's a ton of wasted space near Maxair where all the carnival games are, as well as back near Steel Vengeance. There's also plenty of room along the Dragster midway to add some new flat rides, and the old Dolphin stadium was removed which opens up a decent chunk of land over by Wicked Twister. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

August 20, 20195 yr Man, the hype for that coaster was unreal. Not even Dragster was that big of a deal three years later. Millennium Force is the Empire State Building of roller coasters; it’s the platonic ideal and probably won’t be surpassed in that regard. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

I rode it around 1994, when it was pretty-much brand-new. I thought it was the best coaster in the park at the time and clearly "modern" compared to the others, including The Magnum, which was about 5 years old at that time, and which I didn't find very impressive. The Corkscrew was weak. That thing was hyped up in Cincinnati in the 80s and so I was expecting a lot more. The Mean Streak was pretty impressive just for its scale and the later parts of the ride where you got into the superstructure of the higher hills. The Raptor was light years ahead of Top Gun, which is now The Bat, which was always a terribly weak ride. There was a lot of hype for Top Gun and then you got there and it was just dumb.
August 20, 20195 yr ^ Yeah, Top Gun opened during the few-years stretch that my family had season passes to KI. I rode it the first day it opened, and it was really disappointing. The Raptor was not disappointing, which is probably why I convinced my dad to buy our pic, lol. I think the Raptor was my favorite ride at CP as well, although I remember being impressed with the Magnum. Lots more negative-g sensation than I'd ever felt before, combined with the visual effect of looking almost like you were dropping into the lake made the Magnum really exciting.

Lots more negative-g sensation than I'd ever felt before, combined with the visual effect of looking almost like you were dropping into the lake made the Magnum really exciting. I think the big advantage that wooden coasters have over steel is that the later phase of the ride can be a different animal. Heading back into the tangle of the taller hills is something that steel coasters can't do. The Raptor was a quantum leap over the earlier suspended coasters. Top Gun of course used tech that was well beyond The Bat, but it was a pathetically short and uneventful ride. Then they decided to rename Top Gun as The Bat, adding to the confusion.
August 20, 20195 yr I think Top Gun/The Bat’s Great Lake peer is Iron Dragon really (same manufacturer and style of suspended coaster). Raptor is much taller and more modern, allowing for several inversions, and is similar to Banshee at KI. I prefer (what is now) The Bat to Iron Dragon based off the sheer forces and the steeper/taller drop. "We each pay a fabulous price for our visions of paradise." - ????, ???????
October 2, 20195 yr Exclusive: Six Flags in bid to acquire Cedar Fair-sources U.S. theme park operator Six Flags Entertainment Corp (SIX.N) has approached peer Cedar Fair LP (FUN.N) with an acquisition offer, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. Cedar Fair is considering Six Flags’ cash-and-stock offer, and there is no certainty that a deal will be reached, the sources said. Details of the offer could not be learned. October 2, 20195 yr ^ take my loop, please. oh no, i hope they don't take on that shystery six flags albatross. stick with improving what they have vs overextending with 18 more parks.
October 2, 20195 yr This would be like if Walmart was bidding on taking over Target, they are rivals with one that is larger, cheaper and lower quality but the smaller rival is doing just fine on their own and is of higher quality. Why would anyone want this to happen? That would make all the major amusement parks in the US (with the exception of the few Seaworld/Busch Gardens) a monopoly, and a sh*tty one at that.
October 3, 20195 yr I'm hoping this is something out of nothing because that would seriously suck to all hell. I can see Cedar Fair selling a few of their smaller parks, though.
October 3, 20195 yr (Not much new information than the Reuters article) Six Flags pursuing purchase of Cedar Fair, including Cedar Point: Reuters reports Link: https://www.cleveland.com/business/2019/10/six-flags-pursuing-purchase-of-cedar-fair-including-cedar-point-reuters-reports.html I'm still upset over the Geauga Lake closure. I remember when I first heard about it as a kid and it seeming so inconceivable to me at the time. I had just gotten tall enough to ride the bigger/steel roller coasters, and now it was closing. We at least had Wild Water Kingdom which was a nice water park, but Cedar closed that 3 years ago. As much as I dislike Cedar Fair for this, it would really suck for this proposed acquisition to go through. They aren't technically competitors because they operate in different markets for the most part, but any merger on this scale is bad for consumers. And what For? "As for how Cedar Fair would benefit from the transaction, Speigel said: 'It would make a lot of money for a lot of people on the Cedar Fair side.' "
October 4, 20195 yr Exclusive: Cedar Fair rebuffs $4 billion offer from Six Flags - sources U.S. amusement park operator Cedar Fair LP (FUN.N) has rejected a $4 billion cash-and-stock offer from larger peer Six Flags Entertainment Corp (SIX.N) as inadequate, people familiar with the matter said on Friday. Cedar Fair’s decision is a blow to Six Flags, which is already the world’s largest regional theme park operator and has been looking to expand its footprint so it can increase its ticketing pricing power. Six Flags had offered to acquire Cedar Fair for around $70 per share, to be paid for the most part by using Six Flags shares as currency, but also funded with a small cash component, the sources said. Cedar Fair shares were trading at around $58 right before Reuters broke news of Six Flags’ bid on Wednesday. Cedar Fair responded that Six Flags’ bid was too low, not least because it did not compensate Cedar Fair shareholders for giving up on the company’s tax-advantageous publicly traded partnership. This allows the company to pay out the majority of its earnings to shareholders without first paying U.S. federal or state income taxes. October 4, 20195 yr Six Flags parks suck. They are too corporate and full of sameness. There is nothing that makes them unique. Well as someone who worked DIRECTLY with Six Flagg before we spun them off and for a long time after due to licensing. They are not corporate, but they took on too much trying to saturate local and regional markets. Cedar Fair took over one of Six Flags parks. This is a way to get a piece of six flags, in a market they solely own. In addition, they get to be involved with the roller coaster capital of the world.
October 9, 20195 yr I don't think Cedar Fair could have rejected this offer any quicker. I have to believe that Mr. Zimmerman was laughing as he presented the offer to the board, I mean 48 hrs to turn them down .... that's pretty much a corporate slap in the face. It will be interesting to see what comes in the next few year for Cedar Fair, and how they integrate their Schlitterbahn purchase. Also, their expansion in the Sandusky area is becoming quite diverse (Sports Force Park Arena, Sawmill Creek purchase, BGSU partnership). Some of the other parks in their portfolio are probably in need of an update too. The one thing it does seem that Cedar Fair does well, is focus more on what makes their individual parks different and find ways to highlight that. Whereas Six Flags tries to give each park the same ride.
October 31, 20195 yr Cedar Point Auctioning Vintage Items From Town Hall Museum If you've ever wanted a predictions machine, a World Series arcade game, or another curiosity, this is your chance. Cedar Point is auctioning items from its Town Hall Museum, and the slate of biddable goods is eclectic, to say the least. Artifacts up for grabs include a coin-operated love-teller game, a vintage maple carousel organ, an antique cash register, a medical amputation kit, arcade motor bike riding seats, and a Star Trek commander's chair. The auction is being conducted through Cleveland's Gray's Auctioneers. The showroom for the auctioneer is on the west side, in Gordon Square. Bidding is now open online. October 31, 20195 yr Sad to see they're getting rid of this stuff, but it might be my chance to get my hands on an NCR register for cheap! October 31, 20195 yr Apologies for possibly duplicating a subject, but what are people's thoughts on the Gold Pass for next year? March 11, 20214 yr ayy gang -- i have a cedar point question from ssp that people were wondering about. can you see anything of the cleveland or detroit skylines from cedar point? like from up on a roller coaster? if so, any example pics we can share of this? even as a fata morgana/superior mirage effect?? edit -- not talking about views from on a boat out in the water, but i guess any tall building observation deck views of cedar point would count. -- gracias! March 11, 20214 yr I've never been able to find a pic that shows it, but in very specific clear conditions, at night, you can see the tops of Key Tower and Terminal Tower from Magnum if you know where to look. Or if you have exorcist abilities, the top of Dragster and Millennium Force lol. I unfortunately haven't been in several years, but given its height and location, I'd imagine Valravn would actually be the easiest to notice. The key is that the buildings don't rise from Lake Erie, but rather inland from the curvature of land you see from many of the tall rides at Cedar Point. I remember on one visit noticing the distinct colors of those two buildings poking above land as we reached the top and the math and direction worked out that you'd see the top chunk of both of those if visibility is clear enough. In daytime visibility is essentially never enough and even at night it's rare. I only ever noticed once and every time I tried since then, nothing. Edited March 11, 20214 yr by jmicha

March 11, 20214 yr You used to be able to see Cleveland from the Space Spiral, especially at night, but now I'm not sure what would be high enough and slow enough to focus your eyes. Valravn might be the best bet but is a good 60'+ shorter than space spiral's deck.

March 11, 20214 yr Power Tower on the drop sides is likely the best bet actually now that I think of it. The tower is 300' tall (I believe you go up 260ish feet) and you aren't moving quickly while rising and can face that direciotn.
