The Top Thrill 2 takes guests along three high-speed launches between two 420-foot tall towers, with top speeds reaching 120 mph. Cedar Point

Current rumors are saying the wheels may need to be reengineered and it could be later in the summer, July-ish, until it reopens when they find and test a new option. It being a prototype as @ColDayMan mentioned from a company that doesn't have experience working on this level of coaster, it's not surprising but still a bummer. Hope they find a working solution soon!

These two amusement park giants just merged. Rollercoaster fans are nervous

By Nathaniel Meyersohn, CNN

New YorkCNN —

Six Flags this week completed an $8 billion merger with rival Cedar Fair to create the largest amusement park operator in the United States. Together, they operate 42 amusement and water parks across 17 states.

The success of the deal will determine the future of these amusement parks, and diehard rollercoaster fans are watching carefully. Some are optimistic that the condition of Six Flags’ parks will improve. Others worry it will become more expensive to get into their favorite parks.

Many amusement park fans are passionate about the parks’ design and history and notice the smallest of changes. For now, each park in the new company will keep its old branding and name. But fans fear the parks could lose their nostalgic elements and become a sea of corporate sameness.

I'm really worried that Cedar Point will never get the resources to remain competitive when they are just one of 42 parks, especially when other parks can remain open all year round.

Yes time to beware of the Ivy league finance grads and their spreadsheets.

To be fair, Ohio has the two largest seasonal amusement parks in the United States, both Cedar Point and Kings Island.  Only Canada's Wonderland in Toronto has larger attendance for a seasonal park in North America. So if we're talking finance grads and spreadsheets, the two Ohio parks will be at the top of the list for "good stuff."  I feel bad for Valleyfair, Michigan's Adventure, Dorney Park, Six Flags America, Six Flags Great Escape, Frontier City, Six Flags Darien Lake, and Six Flags St. Louis.  They are likely screwed by this deal.

Cedar Fair unceremoniously killed Geauga Lake. Maybe this is karma?

Well, both Six Flags AND Cedar Fair killed Geauga Lake.  A warning to Michigan's Adventure!

Cedar Point has confirmed that Top Thrill 2 will be closed for the rest of the season. They have been testing the ride at least a couple of times recently so here's to hoping it will be ready to go next year.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Thanks for the heads up. Sadly won't be able to make it but curious if any news about Top Thrill 2 will come out of it.

In a surprise announcement, Cedar Point's 18th coaster is on its way for next season: Siren's Curse. Exciting to see the park working with Vekoma and hopeful in seeing what this relationship brings. Also interesting how the ride will be located not in the newly opening Snake River Falls area but across from Iron Dragon by the Marina.

Paired with the *crosses fingers* reopening of TT2, next year should be an exciting one for America's Roller Coast.

Edited by rollercoasterjoe

Maybe this belongs in a random questions thread, but taking family to CP tomorrow. I haven't been since before COVID/gold pass really took off.

Any tips or tricks you'd recommend? My brother sent a thread that recommended kind of starting in the back and work forward but I'm sure some folks might have better tips. Obviously TT2 is out of the question but yeah, open to suggestions!

Also - any good/rec'd breakfast spots between CLE and Sandusky?

Here's the thread he sent over:

The starting in the back and working your way forward is probably the best advice, especially since Steel Vengeance tends to get the longest lines. The new pavilion in the Boardwalk section of the park towards the front also has fantastic food and can get some good views up there of the sunset. Crowds can be hit or miss during Halloweekends so you might be able to hit a lot of the highlights quickly or still deal with long lines. The moving of the car I don't believe is necessary though haha.

Breakfast wise I don't have any recommendations though I imagine there's something good in Vermillion or Huron. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Moved it twice! Even moving it once is very silly.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Why couldn't Cedar Point (Geauga Lake etc) offer something like this when I was still able to ride rides like this without destroying by back??

As a Cincinnati / Kings Island native I'm often jealous of Cedar Point, but this is too far. They didn't even get TT2 opened last year and we have a giant vacant hole where Vortex was and they still get to cut in front of us and get a cool new coaster while we get water slides?

To be fair, the past ten years, both parks added 3 thrill coasters and 1 family coaster equally.  And Banshee, Orion, and Mystic Timbers actually WORK unlike TT2. So no need to get jealous; Kings Island generally does well overall compared to other parks getting stuff.  If you want to NOT be jealous, look at Kings Dominion and their years of not getting anything but singing mushrooms until next year.

Oh I know we are spoiled in Ohio and Kings Island is still a great park. A couple years ago while I was complaining that our new giga coaster wasn't as good or long as I wanted it to be... the spoiled brat privilege became pretty obvious, but that doesn't make me any less jealous of this tilt coaster haha. In a couple years I'll just upgrade to the platinum pass and visit both parks throughout the summer but I need my kids to get like 4" taller.

Worked out great, ended up getting 14 coaster rides in. A couple had absolutely zero lines (GateKeeper, Rougarou, Raptor) and we were able to get a couple rides in on those, back to back. MF was on and off a bunch throughout the day and they were running 2/3 trains but eventually they got all of them running by evening. Unfortunately Steel Vengeance was down all day, I'll ride it someday! My niece was shellshocked after MF but recovered relatively quickly after some time in Snoopytown lol.

Ended up eating at Jordan's Restaurant and it didn't disappoint!

And for the record, we didn't move the car lol

And thinking of the new coaster, hopefully the hype video is as awesome as MF's was haha

First track piece of Cedar Point's newest roller coaster, Siren's Curse, put in place

"Billed as the nation's tallest, longest and fastest tilt coaster, the attraction is themed after mysterious creatures living in Lake Erie and is situated across from the Iron Dragon coaster and near the Cedar Point Marina.

The ride by Netherlands firm Vekoma features has a unique feature on the top of its 160-foot-tall lift hill where from the ground it appears the coaster encounters a broken track that trails off to nowhere.

The coaster train then stops and tilts midair to connect to the track situated below."

Cedar Point’s Sirens Curse Construction Update- April

"Cedar Point is set to make history with Sirens Curse, the first-ever tilt coaster in the United States. Designed by Vekoma of the Netherlands, this technological marvel will take riders on a massive platform before tilting them into a vertical drop, sending them into a twisted tangle of airtime hills, high-speed turns, and inversions."

Spring has arrived, and construction on Sirens Curse is progressing rapidly...

About 75% of the track is installed, with the lift hill nearing its peak. Once topped out, the manufacturer will conduct final alignment checks and test the tilt track’s hydraulic functions.

The tunnel’s been dug, featuring 700 yards of concrete at five feet thick. It sits 20 feet below ground, below Lake Erie, with measures in place to prevent water penetration.

The station’s steel structure is being erected, and the second-floor concrete has been poured.

A major milestone was installing the 90° drop from the tilt tower, a highlight of the ride’s layout.
