I find speed enforcement to be a tragic misuse of police capacity.

I agree with this portion of 327's statement.  Drunk drivers or people on cell phones/texting are much more dangerous than someone going 68 in a 60mph zone, which they will definitely pull you over for in Linndale.  I can't believe how many people get so "upset" over traffic and/or speeding "problems" here compared to other larger cities I've visited or lived in.  There are a lot of other more egregious or dangerous violations that police could be responding to IMO.

I agree.  People in Clevelnad have it good, but don't realize it.

I don't understand why people need to speed anyway, if you left for your event in a timely manner you wouldn't need to speed!

DAMNIT!!! MY biggest pet peeve is when you go to a dive bar once and the next morning you get a call from Visa Fraud Protection for charges made at various .coms between 2 and 4 this morning.

Now I have no debit card.

I've been slipping, but this is one reason I prefer cash at the bar.  The other reason is I can leave at the exact moment I want to.

At least they called you.  I would call the bar and speak the manager and put Visa on the case!

People who illegally park on Chester during rush hour.  More broadly, those who cannot obey traffic signs/patterns in general (See fury of EC patterns).

I'm really glad they called me, and so quickly.  Luckily, it sounds like a can get a new card today at my branch.  That makes me happy, I thought I'd have to wait a week for one in the mail.  And while I'd prefer to never go into that bar again, I think I will call the manager.

***IF you're ever in Milwaukee, avoid Yield Bar on Prospect and Kenilworth.

Well that's a given, you patronize the place!

Before calling ask Visa what steps you should take, becasue that employee should be fired and the manager/owner fined and jailed.

On that note, why are suburbanites OK with going 8 miles in a half hour on 480, but not going 3 miles in 7 minutes on Carnegie?

Who is driving 16 mph on 480 but 25 mph on Carnegie?

Have you ever driven 480 at rush hour?  Luckily, I don't have to take any freeways to work, but on occasion I've been coming from somewhere else and had to take 480.  16 mph average would be pretty good at 7:30 in the morning.  Carnegie moves better at rush hour than 480.

Yes, daily.

From my condo to my office is 11 miles taking the most direct route (taking 8/422, aka Kinsman/Chagrin).  Taking Carnegie/Fairmount/Green is 13 miles.  Taking 77/480 is 18 miles.  77/480 is faster 90% of the time - basically when there is an accident it's bad and I take back roads.  In fact, when I'm slow at work and don't want to get there bright and early I do 1 of 2 things - take the RTA (50-60 minutes) or take Carnegie/Fairmount/Green (35-40 minutes).  Kinsman is such a beat down road its not worth taking.  Plus there are portions where there is only a center line but people drive as if it's a 4 lane road.

I tried taking every route possible for 2 years when I was in grad school at CSU b/c I had limited time to get from work to class in the evening...freeway was the most reliable.

In the morning, 77 South is as fast as you want to go.  480 East is the speed limit typically until Broadway when it slows down to about 40 (I rarely shift out of 5th gear).  On the way home, it's about the same but in reverse due to the lane ending heading west at Broadway.

Thats a bit much.  My skank-in-law would drive from warrensville/shaker to 271 then downtown, thinking it was faster.  Keep in mind, they could throw a brick at the train station from their from lawn.

I wouldn't call the manager.  I'd let Visa and/or the police investigate and I'd stay out of the way.

Good point, file a police report and let Visa and the police deal.

I'm thinking the manager/owner might not be aware and maybe it would head off another patron being taken advantage off.

Now that I think about it, X is right. Ask Visa if you should file a police report and alert the credit agencies.  Good knows what this person charged or attempted to charge with your card.

99% of the time, I don't speed because I am late.  I am VERY punctual and am always early if at all possible.  There are occasions where I am late but it is ALWAYS for reasons completely outside of my control because when it's up to me, I am always early.  Walking in to a doctor's appointment "on time" is late for me.  I *do* run late sometimes, but when I do, there was absolutely no possible way for me to leave any earlier than I am leaving, and there is no way for the appointment I'm going to to be moved or rescheduled.  I always would rather reschedule than drive an insanely fast speed under the pressure of being late.

Not that it matters from a legal perspective, but I think there's a graduated difference between safe driving speed and unsafe driving speed and it depends on the traffic patterns, the weather, where you're driving and your state of mind behind the driving.  People who are speeding in a panic to get to an appointment because they are late are often the ones involved in accidents. They lose control of their vehicle, they weave in and out of various lanes trying to get ahead, etc.  If I am on the turnpike driving to Y-town and it's good, dry weather and there are very few cars around, crusing at 80 is very comfortable and safe for me.  If I'm trying to get to Case Western down Chester during morning rush hour, pushing 50 feels very unsafe.

Anything over a brisk walking pace of 3 miles per hour is too fast for me.  Slow down, what's the rush?

I wasn't referring to you, but in general.

Most people speed because they are running late and trying to make up time or get somewhere "on time".

^true.  Many people I know are chronic with being late.  I once dated a guy who was VERY bad about it and one time I had a detailed talk with him about it as I was really curious how someone could just let people wait for them all the time (myself included at the time of course).  He basically said that he thought people had "too many hangups" about being on time and that there were other things that were more important to him, and that while he's confident people will wait for him if he's late, if they didn't, oh well, no big deal.  I can't imagine being so arrogant that I'd think other people had a "time hangup" because they were mad that I didn't get to an appointment on time and made them wait.

Go live in Italy.  They think you're a rigid German if you think being on time is important and considerate.  It drove me nuts.

I think I would totally adapt to living life like the Italians, I would love it.  The longer, more casual work day, the long lunch, the more laid back lifestyle in general, it would be great.

Yes, that was amazing.  Absolutely amazing.  I think it will ruin the rest of my working experience.  But, the timing thing is crazy.  15 minutes late is on time, and a half hour is normal.

My european employees are like that.  It drove me crazy at first.  Then I got the "nazi" speech.

They think 5-10 minutes is ok.  So whenever they were late to a meeting, i would just get up and walk out.  Example, if I have on my calendar 10-10:30 AM and they show up at 10:10 AM I just get up and walk out at 10:30 AM or tell them to leave my office.

We  have a conference call every week.  The Asian folks are always on time and ready to go!  The Europeans....not so much.  I rip them every week and even used that as a tool in performance reviews.

It's cultural, but not on my time.

Very!  right now I'm in a meeting!  :o

I think this is where speed limits are a problem.  First of all, they have to be "right" (or reasonable).  Second of all, and I know there's not much that can be done about this, but they only make sense if they're dynamic.  60 or 65 on a freeway may be too slow on a straight, flat stretch with little traffic on a perfect weather ay, and will be too fast on curves in the rain or snow.  And it may be just right in medium traffic with a drizzle.  It all depends on the current conditions.

When browsing supermarket shelves you see a tab affixed below a certain product (a can o’ beans, whatever) announcing “Special Price--$1.99”, so out of curiosity you lift it to see what the regular price is underneath, and it’s the same damn price!!  :wtf: :?

When you are legitimately critical of something and a special someone always responds..."Not to attack you, but what are YOU exactly doing to change things?  There are numerous block clubs, civic organizations, blah blah blah."

And you said all that to say what?

Haha I was just kidding.  I thought me listing you on the Petpeeve thing might make you explode.  And a pleasant Friday to you too, Sir  :-D :-D

What is this god you speak of?

When people do stuff like this online.  I've gone to a few websites and found things like this.  This is not how Columbus looks people!

IMG_1846-1-1.jpg

Does it look better?

Yeah, I don't get it.  That looks like Columbus.

It's reversed, you amateurs. ::)

LOL.  I didn't have the heart to say anything.  I wanted them to keep guessing!  LOL  >:D

If it weren't for the bridge, I would have guessed Cleveland.  I so don't know Columbus.

Then it looks better this way!!!

Then it looks better this way!!!

It looks better the right way imo.

Btw this is one of my favorite pictures of d/t Columbus' riverfront. (Sorry for getting off topic)

^I'm going to let that slide, and give you a pass for the pregnancy-hormone moment. ;-)

Thanks.  Honestly, I've only been to columbus a handful of times and most of those were when I was a child.  I seriously wouldn't recognize it.

Consider yourself lucky.  I spent four years there, I'm still trying to block those memories.  ;D

I accepted a job in Columbus once, but then got offered a job at only slightly lower salary in Cleveland. I guess you could say I work there, I'm just a couple years late for my first day on the job.

It's reversed, you amateurs.

THANK YOU!

That just shows how insignificant Columbus is!!  I am positive, without a doubt, that I have driven through Columbus more times than anyone on UO (besides those who live there), and I didn't pick up on it!!

Can't be my problem!

If I had a nickel for every time I've driven through Columbus, I would donate it to UO!!

I have been to Columbus a ton and would have never known that.

I'm from Columbus and missed it, but could easily tell the Cincy picture is backwards. How sad.
