But they could potentiality be damaged by kicking them over like dominoes. no? what if they had something of value in a carrier? If there is a continual issue with bike parkers, isn't the more prudent thing to do is educate or contact the park authority in charge of the recreation path?

It sounds like knocking over the bicycles was an accident and not the intent.

On a similar note, my husband's extended family will occasionally get together and go to a park.  We go on the bike trail, which has a combination of bike riders, walkers, skaters, etc.  Most of the family walks, and some will bring their bicycles.  One time we brought our bicycles with us, which meant we ended up keeping an eye on the kids in the group.  At times we would stop and wait for the walkers to catch up with us.  We were constantly telling the kids that they had to keep their bikes and themselves off of the trail when they stopped.  Many times they just stared at us, and they would be stopped in the middle of the trail just sitting on their bikes.  There were times when some bike riders were coming up from behind and had to swerve to keep from hitting them, and we received several nasty looks from the riders.  I don't blame them because this did create a dangerous situation, and they had no way of knowing that these were not our kids.  However, we now just walk on these family outings.

ROFLMAO!

The expressions "hater" or to "hate on".  If you're over 15, don't ever use them.  Especially not if you want to be taken seriously.

Sounds like Crystal light.  :P

I have a neighbor who continually uses the expression "OMG" in conversations.  She's middle-aged and trying way too hard to be hip, IMHO.  I just want to "LOL" back at her (though, maybe she'd think I'm calling her a Little Old Lady instead of laughing out loud).  Maybe asking "WTF" is the proper response?

How old is this neighbor?  I dont think "OMG" is a term to be only used by those of a certain age.

The only time it's ever ok to verbally say "OMG" is when you're using a speech to text software program to post on the internet.

Bah! at what point do we eliminate all formal dialect whatsoever and finally just speak to each other in binary code?

We do say "WTF" at work because you're not really allowed to go around saying the F word while on the job.

Pushing 50, but with hot pink stripes in her jet black hair, so not your typical granny.  Just the way she exclaims O-M-G sounds like it's the updated version of the 80's "Oh. Ma. God."  Maybe that's what former Valley Girls say these days?

Everyone here just curses.  Most of my staff is bilingual so they curse in a non English language.

I can always tell when someone is stressed/upset when they switch to another language.

@ Rob --- sorry, I should have read closer. Dan should have called you an Intolerant  old person tho ;-)

Apology accepted. I'm not intolerant, though; I simply know what's best, and so long as people do what they should, we get along fine.

This the anti pet peeve. I love my ipod and headphones beacuse without being able to block out the whining conversations that take place daily around me for the first 60 minutes of work, I might just kill some f*cking body.

I agree, although for me, it's while riding public transit.  Some days I get a kick out of the random conversations I hear, but other days I feel like I'm gonna go apesh*t on someone if they don't get off their d@mn phone!  Thank goodness for my iPod.

I never get a kick out of the conversations I have to endure, plus the main two culprits are extremely loud....

Can you tell them to bring it down a notch.

Flip flops!  Yes, I'm repeating myself.

This woman just walked into my office in Flip Flops.  All I could do was look down at her exposed feet.

Thing No. 1 & 2 didn't even close the door, they just stood their looking at her.  She left.  The woman she was with said, "I'm so sorry.  I guess her "foot wear" is inappropriate".  I just rolled my eyes.

I don't understand these people who think Flip Flops is "OK" as business attire.

Knowing this'll go over like a lead balloon... the word "vibrant" as a descriptor of successful urbanity.  Vibration has nothing to do with it.  Nothing.  Too often this word stands in for a detailed analysis of cause and effect.  It equates everything, and it oversimplifies complex situations. Every time I'm tempted to use this term I stop and ask myself 2 questions:

1)  What are the key features of the situation I'm describing?  What makes it good?

2)  How did it get this way?  What factors drew the "vibrational" element to this picture?

Dictionary.com uses it this way, it must be true!

vi·brant

   /ˈvaɪbrənt/ Show Spelled[vahy-bruhnt] Show IPA

–adjective

1.

moving to and fro rapidly; vibrating.

2.

vibrating so as to produce sound, as a string.

3.

(of sounds) characterized by perceptible vibration; resonant; resounding.

4.

pulsating with vigor and energy: the vibrant life of a large city.

5.

vigorous; energetic; vital: a vibrant personality.

6.

exciting; stimulating; lively: vibrant colors; a vibrant performance.

7.

Phonetics. made with tonal vibration of the vocal cords; voiced.

–noun

8.

Phonetics. a vibrant sound.

^^I'm sure you're aware that "vibrant" also means "pulsating with life, vigor, or activity."  That doesn't mean people don't use it lazily, but I don't think there's any presumed connection to vibration.  Think of it as a synonym for "lively."

EDIT: 'ninja beat me to it.

My pet peeve of late: developers/journalists who think everyone who wants to live in a city or in medium/high density housing is looking to be "in the middle of all the action."  Actually, I just want to be able to run my errands on foot, walk, bike or take transit to work and be in walking distance to restaurants.  At this point in my life, I would much rather be a full block or more away from any bars and multiple blocks away from destination bars/entertainment.

I've separated myself from TV news quite a bit over the last 6 months, but whenever I walk into a room the last 48hrs there's "BREAKING NEWS" with 2 day old clips of the failed NYC car bomb.  Every time, I'm just dumb enough to think that another vehicle has been found, for just a moment.  It's really pissing me off.

When you don't watch TV news, seeing it for the first time in a while is a shock- the shallowness of it, the credulous tone, the constant pushing of drama, the cameras shoved into the faces of crying people, the lack of nearly anything resembling facts.  Say what you will about print journalism (I think much of it is lousy), but the worst print source is better than any TV source, with the exception of PBS.

She is just repeatedly taking advantage of my kindness and generosity and doesn't seem to get why it is making me mad. Pretty much sick of dealing with it, if she is not going to appreciate it.

(yes I know I sound like most wives)

No.  without knowing your wives side of the situation, you sound like a person in a relationship who is tired of repeating things.  Nobody wants to feel "unappreciated".

However, if you know that she is taking advantage of your "kindness" and "generosity" then stop.  You control that.

My kindness and generosity is really limited to not b!tching and nagging about the situation and generally being a good sport. After that it is a huge step change into telling her what she can and can't do, controlling behavior.  We had a blow out on Saturday and I wasn't still mad at her but I wasn't  "not mad" and then we went and did something boneheaded this morning that made me sound like a fool. It was mostly joking but it was public, and it sent my BP through the roof again. Mostly I am just frustrated because she either doesn't get it or is in denial.

Have you had a solid conversation, with definitive communication as to your feelings and told her that if this behaviour continues there will be consequences?

Not being able to get on UO from Case's wired or public wireless network for 75% of the day such that I'm stuck reading threads on my phone.... Really starting to piss me off.

Just needed to vent to a 3rd party, thanks UO.

MTS thanks for the concern this isn't critical just really annoying, as far as the conversation we are getting there.

What's that bit in 'White Men Can't Jump" about listening vs hearing Hendrix? I think she is getting to the point where she is hearing what I am saying instead of just listening to me talk. No biggie just part of a long term relationship.

Anytime man!  We all get there sometime!  Now relax, relate and release.

The humanity! That's probably worse than being stuck without it. I refuse to read UO on my ipod touch it gets too frustrating.

Coolness X2 if you get matching pickup truck and pickup-bed trailer, and then X2 again if you equip both with matching caps with roof racks.

You could keep the wife and just make her ride in the trailer. :-)

I love these. People need to remember that one of those filled up with stuff should have brakes of its own.
