Posted September 5, 200816 yr OK, it's actually in Lakewood -- just off the Gold Coast to be exact. First I'll set the scene from my building's roof. Then we'll take a look at those pretty angels I photographed over the Labor Day weekend 2008.... Thanks for the show, flyboys. See you next Labor Day weekend for the next installment of the annual Cleveland Air Show! September 5, 200816 yr That's some serious zoom! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 5, 200816 yr Not really. With the naked eye I could read the "US Navy" print on the planes as they went over my building. Those F18s are close enough that they're louder than the loudest thunderstorms I've heard. My cats don't come out from under the bed for probably a good hour after the Blue Angels/Thunderbirds are done! September 5, 200816 yr Great pictures... wish I was there for that! My girlfriend was bragging all week about watching them practice out her window in Key Tower. Me = jealous
September 5, 200816 yr Nice set! Is this looking southeast, and would that be St. Stephens on West 54th on the right? clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 5, 200816 yr I drew a line on GoogleEarth from my building's sun deck to the right of the elevator shaft cupola atop the brick build you see in the foreground. And damned if that straight line doesn't go just to the north of St. Stephens Church. I looked at the church on live.com birdseye and I'd say you are correct MayDay. Good call!! After doing all that, I can say with some certainty that the apartment building with the dark brick exterior but white outline is the St. Augustine Manor, part of the St. Augustine Health Campus at West 78th Street and Detroit Avenue. September 5, 200816 yr That's crazy how close they fly to each other ... I'd be afraid I'd hiccup or something and knock them all out.
September 5, 200816 yr At this point in the season they fly 18 inches!!!!!!!!!!! wing tip to wing tip. We had front row seats right by the announcers (cause the mister works for Parker Hannifin), so we got to hear all that crazy info.

It is interesing that most people think Cleveland is all flat. I'm assuming that is Parma in the background?
September 5, 200816 yr ^that should be the Heights that you are referring to. Driving west over the 480 bridge gives you a good sense as to how non-flat the southern burbs are.
September 5, 200816 yr ^Nope, Parma would be further to the right of St. Stephens (note the absence of the Parma antenna farm). That's the higher elevations on the east side (basically between southern Shaker and Bedford). clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 5, 200816 yr Yes, that is the east side escarpment coming up from the old lake bed. You're looking generally to the area of Shaker Heights with that view. I go up to the sun deck on the fourth of July and watch the fireworks displays of all the various cities. From up there it looks like Baghdad in the first Gulf War with all the triple-A coming up.
