Posted September 6, 200816 yr See the past, present and future of Tremont House Guided tours Sunday at historic Bellevue building http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2008/09/06/front/884419.txt By CORY FROLIK | [email protected] BELLEVUE - A Bellevue resident from the mid-19th century probably wouldn’t recognize the building at 101 E. Main St. as it stands today. Built as a hotel in 1846, the Tremont House has undergone many transformations.
October 9, 200816 yr House demolished to make room for library project http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2008/10/09/front/doc48ed7be7d0c84194205655.txt Thursday, October 9, 2008 6:37 AM EDT SANDUSKY - A house next to the Sandusky Library was razed Wednesday to clear the way for a reading garden and improved entrance to the library. A gift from the Randolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation is being used to develop the garden according to the Sandusky Library Web site. _________________________________________________________________________ This is very disheartening and shouldn't have happened. The house appeared to have been in great condition, too :whip: Before After :-(
October 9, 200816 yr ^ That's really a shame... are there any renderings of this new library entrance/reading garden? At least it wasn't torn down for a Walgreen's or someting like that... edit: I answered my own question
October 9, 200816 yr I agree that public greenspace (the "reading garden" in this case) is good; but not at the expense of that old house :( I would think the Sandusky Library/Museum Foundation would want to preserve history rather than tear it down; but what do I know.....
October 9, 200816 yr Based on its condition, I think it would have been a good candidate to be moved at least, rather than demolished.
