BELLEVUE - A Bellevue resident from the mid-19th century probably wouldn’t recognize the building at 101 E. Main St. as it stands today. Built as a hotel in 1846, the Tremont House has undergone many transformations.

SANDUSKY - A house next to the Sandusky Library was razed Wednesday to clear the way for a reading garden and improved entrance to the library.

A gift from the Randolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation is being used to develop the garden according to the Sandusky Library Web site.

This is very disheartening and shouldn't have happened.  The house appeared to have been in great condition, too  :whip:

After  :-(

^ That's really a shame... are there any renderings of this new library entrance/reading garden? At least it wasn't torn down for a Walgreen's or someting like that...

edit: I answered my own question

I agree that public greenspace (the "reading garden" in this case) is good; but not at the expense of that old house :(  I would think the Sandusky Library/Museum Foundation would want to preserve history rather than tear it down; but what do I know.....

Based on its condition, I think it would have been a good candidate to be moved at least, rather than demolished.
