From Cool Cleveland email blast this morning:

Rockometer lands on Rock and Roll Boulevard Now that demolition of the old US Coast Guard station across from the Rock Hall on E. 9th Street has begun, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Will the Federal government give National Concession founder and redoubtable impresario Christopher Axelrod permission to build "the most elaborate" state-of-the-art, 2000-seat party center East of Las Vegas? We don't see why they wouldn't. As proposed, the Rockometer would sport 3 jumbo screens and a giant jukebox theme measuring the spirit level of Cleveland on the facade, while inside the flexible venue could host everything from Cleveland's every-third-year Rock Hall induction ceremonies and similar corporate celebrations to the Grammy Awards, featuring a hydraulic stage, a media center/broadcast facility, water and vapor effects, an underground tunnel to the Museum, and no doubt, lot of attitude. Check the video, and embrace the vision: http://www.TheRockometer.com

What are everyone's thoughts? Personally, I like the concept, but the renderings leave a lot to be desired...

I agree.  The retro design isn't really my style, but it is a cool concept!

I like the concept with the exception of the underground tunnel.  I'm not a fan of tunnels, we have plenty of well maintained sidewalks in Cleveland.  I don't want to hear any crap about weather, etc.

I totally missed the part about the tunnel.  Guess my brain knows that text just isn't worth even reading!  No tunnels!

Cleveland Welcomes Apple? Pffft - they could at least say "Happy Birthday, MayDay!!!" on the ticker sign.

But there's no little cake slice in your profile.  When is your birthday?

It all makes sense now :-D.

It seems to dwarf the Rockhall, and what I thought was a marina behind seems to be a parking lot!!!!

No more mistakes on the lakefront please.

ITS A RENDERING AND THE FOCUS IS ON IT NOT THE ROCK HALL!!

Yeah I really don't think this is the best use for this space.  The thing that is interesting is he mentions MMPI and the medical mart.  It's encouraging, however far-fetched, that the medical mart could really be a catalyst for other far reaching concepts, and I guess this is one.

From the site:

"Secondly, the RTA and Euclid Corridor Project will be completed soon. Tourists will be able to view the downtown area conveniently, as well as easily continue on to the University Circle area and points east. To aid in traffic flow and parking during events, as well as an added enticement for group tourism, and The Rockometer will provide themed shuttle service to area garages and parking lots."

What's the point of shuttles when you have a parking lot right there?!?

There is no need for MORE parking!  That is just insane!  It directly across from the RockHall and GLSC, there is a massive garage there.  Although this is just a rendering and concept, the tunnel and parking idea, should be throw out IMMEDIATELY!  That parking could be a restaurant or interactive feature...or better yet A GAWD DAMN AQUARIUM!

Sorry kids...my pressure is up today...carry on!

Oh.. you mean that isnt an actual picture of it already built...

WELL THEN IT S%CKS.

The relocation of the coast guard station provides the opportunity for another public-waterfront "touching point" so to speak.  Outside of Voinovich Park, the area behind GLSC/RockHall, there are very few of these areas.  I hope that whatever does eventually takes root here remembers this key point.

HUSH NOW!  :-D    Yes, the current rending leaves a lot to be desired!

aaack, I am experiencing phony rock design motif overload.  seriously though, I barfed in my mouth a little bit.

Golly gee, I sure hope it plays "I like that old time rock-n-roll.." 24-7!!!    ;)

3231, you know I love you like a MayDay photo tour, but ...ah...not so much on that musical selection!

It is only someone's pipe dream vision. I don't think it has much of a chance of coming to fruition.

Have they really started demolishing the coast guard station?  If so, I missed that one.

hey, did you miss the ;) at the end of sentence?

Not to venture too far off-topic, but so long as they work this concept into a Campbell Administration-esque plan for the overall waterfront, I would fully be on board, pardon the pun.

I agree with flee, as long as it is done correctly I think this could be a great addition.  Obviously what is being shown in this extremely preliminary rendering would not be considered "done correctly".

Worst rendering ever, but not a bad program to have there as long as the parking isn't realistic.

Worst rendering ever..

no it's not....but lets no go there...  Weve seen some dooozies here before.  I'm sure individually we've each seen worse!

I like the concept, and since this is the first set of renderings for the project, I won't be too harsh on it.  But I would hope that the developer is not planning on adding parking to our lakefront.

The parking lot is for "employee parking" according to their site.

Well then can't they have an employee shuttle?

Why can't they take PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION and walk their lazy azzes to the office??!!

Well, yeah, that's what I was actually thinking, but even baby steps would do.

NO more baby stepps and coddling BS.  First people complain about the fare increase, but yet they want more parking.  I'm sick of that idiotic, assbackwards train of thought!

I like this idea. Not sure if I'm a fan of the current design, either, but I like the idea of a giant jukebox near the Rock Hall. It has a very kitschy, Pop Art kinda feel to it, which I love.

I really don't want our lakefront to be a parade of tourist-oriented queso.  I want to see the waterfront be more mixed use, more of a neighborhood, with some sort of overall plan that results in a coherent place.  This is just another random building plopped on the waterfront.

I like the concept, especially if they can finally get induction ceremonies and the Grammys. The design... thank you, none for me please.

That is about as tacky and cheesy a design as I've ever seen, and I live in Las Vegas. Also ... Rockometer... really. Yes I know it's an early render and probably just a concept/vision but it must be struck down with furious anger before it gets a head of steam.

^Induction ceremonies are already coming here... this could just be a potential venue for them.

Don't you have a show to do at the Flamingo or something?!!

proof that Las Vegas is tacky, continued

Well, you left the door open for another one of my "questions".  Now why in the world would we need this, when we have gorgeous public hall and the theaters of PHS.  The mall site needs some love not TC...ok...back to our regularly scheduled program.

Had a look at the website. I think it's awful. There's nothing that says "cool" about it to me at all, and it's changed my opinion on this project alone. Honestly, if I hear "Cleveland Rocks" one more fucking time I'm going on a rampage.

Does anyone know anything about Christopher Axelrod?

excellent point.  I think I just like the thought of in some way extending the "rock brand" particuarly in that location...

That's good stuff... but seriously I do my show at the fabulous Excalibur!

Excalibur?  You sound more like a hooters, Palace station, westard ho or stardust casino performer.  LOL

Nonsense... I'm a professional Jouster. This is why I came to Vegas; there was just no work in Cleveland for someone who enjoys riding on a horse and piercing others with my lance while my fans enjoy some roast mutton or turkey leg.

Now we should get back on topic before MayDay steps in and shows us what can really be done with a lance or ax or whatever. :-D

jpop...be a man of your word!

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!! No, you did not!

(I guess I was asking for it, though, huh? :) )

To paraphrase the principal in Billy Madison: "Mr. Axelrod, what you just said is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard.  Everyone here is now stupider for having heard it.  I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul."
