I live in the west end of Lakewood, right near Rocky River.  I dont think I could feel more safe.  I park on the street all the time and have had one incident in over a year...a drunk on st. patty's day knocked my mirror off...but thats hardly crime.  It was dumb of me to park it closer to the bars and further away from the neighborhood.  I can walk to the metroparks with trails, church, grocery, and bars.  The 55 bus literally picks me up 50 feet from my front door and goes through public square, all the way to CSU.  It takes about 25 minutes to 30 minutes but is one of the most highly utilized routes in the city.  I want to move downtown because I work in University Circle and I want to be a part of the urban sprawl, but if you are thinkin about lakewood, i like the west end

Update: Statler is full other than one large expensive unit. WT GRatn lofts has some availability so thanks for that tip. Perry Payne has just one unit as well and its one that is out of my price range. Still waiting to hear from teh Hat Factory.

Hat factory full, ha. Boy you guys need to build more apartments!

the new Euclid Block apartments will have over 70 units the vast majority of which will be one bedrooms.  Unfortunately they won't be ready in the next couple weeks when you need them, but obviously they realize the need for this niche.

Studios and one bedroom apartments are on lockdown in Cleveland.  I think we discussed this in another thread.  I'm sure this is the reason why many smaller units (rental and purchase) are planned for future developments.

Ended up going with Reserve Square. The kitchen is brand new, new carpet, and the only place that had an actual weight room. Also had a walk in closet unlike all the lofts. You really get alot for your dollar there. Apparently the new management company has been going in and updating the units. The WT Grant lofts were pretty nice inside and had washer/dryer in the unit which is sweet. Was also a good value and across the street from the banks, but was just a little on the small side, no closet space, and too basic of a workout room. The stuff I visited in the Warehouse District was alright, but for my price range, the units were small, facing alley's, etc. These too had bad workout facilities, overpriced parking ($145 at Bridgeview), etc. I see you're just paying to live 'by the action' which is kinda dumb because I'd rather walk 5 minutes to work 6 days a week and 20+ minutes to the bars 1-2 nights a week rather than vice-versa. Thanks everyone for your input.

Welcome to Cleveland!

Thanks for updating us.  I hope to see more post from you as a Clevelander.

In regard to the WHD, people and prices are in place due to "location, location, location".  If folks were not renting they would not be able to price units as such.  When you live in the middle of the action, you tend to only need to be in your apartment to sleep.  The price of urban living.

Anywhooo....glad you found a location that works for you!  And I'm glad to hear that the new management of RS is updating the building.

Welcome to town, Detroit2Cleveland! And you can always move to another place should you find another neighborhood you fall in love with or a new residential building opens up.

If you don't have a bicycle, you ought to get one for downtown living. I found a nice used bike for a good price at the Ohio City Bike Coop on Columbus Road in the industrial Flats. They're back behind a couple of buildings next to the river. Do a Google search to find out more about them.

And if you want lots of shopping near downtown and you don't find what you're looking for at Tower City or other downtown retailers, check out Steelyard Commons. It's a few miles south of downtown. You'll find a Target, WalMart, Marshall's, Best Buy and lots more.

We are from Detroit, also! We have been here since June. Welcome to Cleveland. We should start a carpool for when all of us former Detroiter's visit Detroit.

I think you will find that there are so many good neighborhoods in Cleveland that it is hard to choose. We are in Shaker Square now. Also, last weekend, my husband and I went downtown for dinner and found that some of the restaurants in Tower City were almost deserted. Someone told me later "there used to be a lot of crime down there". Coming from Detroit, I thought that was a laugh.

It's a much nicer city than Detroit, much more mellow but more to offer in a compact space. p.m. me if you have questions or if I can be of any help.

More of a reputation problem than a crime problem.
