This is just a pilot, so dont jump all over me about how bad of an idea this is.  I am just interested in thoughts right now.  I recently joined the board within the last month,and as most of you share a pretty strong passion about this city.  I am throwing out the idea of a monthly downtown happy hour for UO Clevelanders.  Someone different picks a different place once a month and we go give business to some places around town, and discuss cleveland.  In all of the different groups I am in and walks of life, I join to meet new people and to try to make a difference...I figured there is enough enthusiasm on this website to do that.  Just a thought.

I'm on board.  I enjoy meeting people with similar interests.

It's hard to do something with a regular day/time because so many people end up having conflicts.  And, nobody wants to be "the planner," always picking the day, time and location.

 

We have successfully had meet-ups and UO lunches, but a standing/repeated appointment just seems not to work because of the dynamics of people's schedules.

I dont think anything has to be fixed...and if people cant attend its not like they are being "docked"...but lets face it...the majority of the city's enthusiasm is within the confines of this website.  If there is enough interest, we can pilot it...if not we toss the idea.

I think it's a great idea...and I think a semi-fixed "schedule" would help because it would be easier for people to plan in advance to go.

I agree with you. If you want to organize it, that would be great and I will try to attend when I can.

Ill let everyone decide...If "X" is in, that gives 7 people who were interested.  If that is a sufficient starting number, then we will move to the next step of getting a time and place for month #1.  If there isnt enough back, then we can explore other ideas. Whats the general idea?

I'm in, schedule permitting.  Unfortunately, I work mostly evenings.

First Thursday of the month works for me.  I can usually swing Wednesdays, and I might be able to do some Fridays.

 

I say don't wait until there's ten people.  It's difficult organizing people (as I've experienced in my UO Cleveland Bicycle Group efforts), and at least five is a good enough start.

$1 beers a Corner Alley from 5-7!!

 

I'm actually leaving for my military time in the next three weeks so I'd definitely be interested.

Just let me know day & time, I'll do my best.  I travel a good amount for work this time of year, but I'll hope.

I might have friends in town from both Boston and Minneapolis that night, but as long as they aren't opposed to it (they are both from Cleveland originally) I don't have a problem with the 9th.

Very good point, and that should be considered if you're hoping to meet people and chat, or if you're fine with drinking and not being able to hear.

Oct 9th is fine.  Confirmed.  It may be a little loud, but I don;t think anything we can't handle.  Maybe we can just take over the outdoor patio. 

 

EDIT: oh, but opening night at CR isn't supposed to open to the public until 8 pm.  Maybe we can start down the street...like Teresa's pizza patio or Corner Alley outside and then go over if anyone wants to afterwards??

Why dont we say corner alley to start.  Somebody pick a time.  I get off work at 4:00 and can do anythign after that.  If the 8pm enter for caddy ranch is true, I may not make it there because i have to pick someone up at the airport later that evening.  We have the neighborhood, and im flexible so whenever you people get off work or school or whatever, I can agree to the time.

Wonder Bar definitely works.  I get off work at 5pm and can be there by 5:15.

Please reply to this post if you're coming.  We'll coordinate somehow so that everyone knows where the UO group is (without standing out with signs.  We'll start at the Wonder Bar, and wherever the group wants to go thereafter can be decided as we go.  I'll contact Wonder Bar to see if they can offer any food or drink specials. 

 

Everyone's welcome and it's always great meeting new people with common interests, so let's get a big group together to kick it UO style!

The menu has recently changed for the season, too, so you guys can check that out.  Our new happy hour food is chili - $3 a bowl.  Maybe I can throw a pizza or two your way to show my appreciation.  Those are new, too, no longer on flat bread but bigger and on pizza crust.

No. Two reasons.

Ex-wife works there and I have the kids this week with no sitter (plus it is soccer night).

 

 

At this point, we have anywhere from six to nine people attending.  Some folks said they were coming via IM, and we have a few non-UO, but pro-Cleveland people planning to attend.

Moved to Chicago, and there will not be a new "the pope". When "the pope" returns, he will retain his Mod status, etc. :-)
