Posted August 9, 200519 yr From the 8/8/05 PD: Bridge abutment now site of stylish offices Monday, August 08, 2005 Douglas Trattner Special to The Plain Dealer When the Detroit Avenue Bridge was built in 1910 to span the Rocky River, it featured the longest unreinforced concrete arch in the world. It was declared one of the most beautiful concrete bridges in America. Following construction of a new bridge in 1980, the old masonry one was demolished. Most of it, anyway. Using the remaining structural arches in the abutment as its foundation, The Bridge Building is literally built on top of, and within, remnants of the old bridge. While the four stories above the old relic offer impressive views, it is the offices of Precision Dialogue, which are built into the arches themselves, that are the most unusual. http://www.cleveland.com/business/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/business/1123407282212320.xml&coll=2
August 10, 200519 yr OK, someone's gotta a post of pic of the bridge building. I often show it to out-of-towners, and the love it. I think some of the visitors to this forum would appreciate it. I'll see if I have a picture of it around here somewhere. KJP "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 10, 200519 yr Here's a link with some not-so-great pics - I just LOVE it when people put "Glamour Shots" halos around pics  Nevertheless - it's a really cool building and use of the bridge structure. http://www.lamigrubb.com/projects/bridge.html clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 10, 200519 yr This is one of my favorite office buildings outside Cleveland proper. But why is the Plain Dealer only now writing an article on it? The building's been around for, what, 15 years? :)
August 10, 200519 yr They've been doing a series on interesting office space/buildings for the last year or so. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 13, 200817 yr Criminy, I drive over that bridge all the time, and I've seen that building sitting there, but I never realized it was sitting on the old bridge ... that's pretty darn cool!
