Posted September 28, 200816 yr Mount Pleasant (pop. 4,728) is located in south-central Westmoreland County (pop. 369,993) and is part of the Pittsburgh MSA and the Pittsburgh Urbanized Area. Mt. Pleasant is located 37 miles southeast of Downtown Pittsburgh. The town is located on a hilltop just a few miles west of the Laurel Highlands, a vast mountainous area filled with recreation opportunities. The Laurel Highlands are visible from everywhere in town. Mt. Pleasant was laid out in 1797 along the Braddock Road. The oldest existing buildings are a few brick houses dating from 1812. The town was situated within a coal-mining region; the coal being used in coke production. Mt. Pleasant then became famous for its glass and crystal manufacture. The oldest stuff seems to be along the Braddock Road west of downtown Laurel Highlands in the distance Downtown was fairly bustling I love doughboy monuments... the helmets were just so distinctive I didn't know they made paint in that shade of grey I love Mt. Pleasant's scenic location i'm speechless vomit-inducing more weird houses how could you do that to your windows? the houses might suck... but boy... that view! a house constructed entirely of fireproof tile
September 28, 200816 yr Having spent the first twenty years of my life entirely on the flatlands of northeastern Indiana, I'm still fascinated by towns that spill down hillsides. Maybe they had to put them there, because they needed all the flat spots to raise food. I've seen that fireproof tile construction a few places. Usually it includes stone quoins that help the appearance quite a lot.
