October 18, 200816 yr I do believe that when you combine good with the bad, Chicago comes out ahead. However, you're right, Atlanta does have some great skyscrapers. Take my comments like that with a grain of salt. I actually think there's a lot of nice buildings in d/t atlanta. I'm actually a really big fan of the Westin despite how bad 70s architecture is.
March 13, 200916 yr I'm not sure who is rating Atlanta to over rate it, but it has in fact improved. Downtown is a lost cause Midtown has improved significantly and there are some really nice city neighborhoods. I believe that the problem with the windows is code issue.

Downtown i dead, midtown is improving but overbuilt for the market. Empty NEW condo buildings left & right and that thing they label a museum - puh-lease! ohhh..you done got my pressure up on a Friday night!
March 14, 200916 yr I called it over rated! I know. My comment was who was high praising it for you to say it was over rated? Downtown i dead, Yes it is and that won't change. midtown is improving but overbuilt for the market It's only overbuilt to the extent of the current economic crisis. Once the economy is rolling again, it will be fine as it has crossed a threshold where it has hit a true critical mass of residential living. 10 years ago there were a handfull of maybe a dozen apt/condo towers, now there are many many more - street level retail has developed and more is on the way around 7th/8th streets through 14th etc. Again, 10 years ago there was very little to walk to beyond the Arts center and some clubs. and that thing they label a museum - puh-lease! ohhh..you done got my pressure up on a Friday night! Ok, you don't like the museum, but really your comments are making Atlanta to be more than it is to tear it down. Like an absurd strawman or strawcity I should say. Yes the city is a poster city for poor planning. But that does not mean that some areas are not now becoming better or that there are not nice dense old neighborhoods. Just be fair about it and calm down.

Just be fair about it and calm down. It's overbuilt period. More people are leaving ATL than arriving. ATL's "time" is over. Foreclosure, housing cost, the local corrupt government, lack of city services, unemployment, etc. are sky high. ATL is not the "mecca" it's claimed to be and never will be. No jobs are coming to ATL. It's starting to see the same affects that the north suffered in the 70's but in a different way. There are migrant "poor" moving from other rural areas to ATL, but no major company's moving in. Look at Delta for example, one bad move and it will cripple, not only ATL, but all of GA. So you have a starbucks, the vortex, a gordon bierch and a CVX on 7/8 street, but there is still no walking, unless you count the hookers (male, female and confused). Now, I agree there is more there now than 10 years ago. No, I don't like the "museum". It's a joke. Atlanta should be torn down, along with several other southern cities. No, I don't like the South. Never have and never will, especially ATL.
March 14, 200916 yr It's overbuilt period :wtf: More people are leaving ATL than arriving :wtf: ATL's "time" is over. "time?" Foreclosure You're right, Atlanta, Miami, DC, and oh wait the entire country including Ohio will never recover from the foreclosures. housing cost When it costs more than DC, Boston and NYC, then it will be a problem. Until then, they'll keep moving to Atlanta and living like kings for the "cheap" housing. the local corrupt government, lack of city services, unemployment, etc. are sky high. Insert city name to your comment and it will apply to 95% of U.S. cities. ATL is not the "mecca" it's claimed to be and never will be It claimed to be a mecca??? Again with the strawcity. No jobs are coming to ATL March 2009 - the economy is in freefall. Are you suggesting that jobs are coming to some other city??? It's starting to see the same affects that the north suffered in the 70's but in a different way Well the city did lose or is losing GM and Ford and I would assume so other manufacturing, but how significant is that as a % of the overall metro? There are migrant "poor" moving from other rural areas to ATL, Cities do attract people. but no major company's moving in compared to what? Look at Delta for example, one bad move and it will cripple, not only ATL, but all of GA. Delta's problems would be a significant concern, yes. No, I don't like the "museum". It's a joke. Atlanta should be torn down, along with several other southern cities. No, I don't like the South. Never have and never will, especially ATL ...well there you have it. Continued immature city bashing for irrational and contrived reasons. Some valid points (Delta etc) noted, but the biggest ones are flawed. Seriously from your comments Atlanta is dying or dead - that it will be the new rust best city....

(now thats immature, but close to the truth). I have an opinion of the city and I don't like it. Irrational and contrived, far from it. You and you friend seem to love defending this place. We all have our opinions and mine is for strong dislike of ATL and it's like. I've stated why I don't like the city if you don't like what I have to say, then don't comment.
March 14, 200916 yr Hillbillys? This coming from people from Cleveland... holy crap, I've seen it all... if Cleveland didn't have Lebron, it would just be Lima with a few taller buildings... no offense Lima
March 14, 200916 yr what a thoroughly un-educated statement... I now understand why you think Cleveland will recover The metro area is roughly the same as Boston and D.C. What a shame. Imagine if they built downtown as dense as Cincinnati and preserved historic smaller scale buildings. It really would be a great city. Again, they use an area that damn near reaches the Tenn/GA border. It's a hicktown! With tons and tons of homeless people, foreclosures and soon to be unemployed! America's most over rated city! Yawn.

March 14, 200916 yr Atlanta is far from hillbilly heaven. That designation stretches from Medina to Columbiana, boxed in by Ashtabula. Atlanta is a transient town of people from all over the US. My neighborhood has very little natives. But you remind of the fans in the movie "major league" The 5,000 people in a 80,000 seat stadium going "you suck". People desire to live in Atlanta, unlike Cleveland. Things are stilling being built in Atlanta unlike Cleveland. The major news networks this week stated Atlanta was one of the hot job markets in the US. The other hot markets were states, not cities. Cleveland has ZERO on Atlanta minus a burning river, Drew Carey ( story about a loser). major league (story about a losing team) the RR hall, which they still give out the awards in NYC because NOBODY wants to go to Cleveland. The kid with no toys always hates the one with toys... so I feel your pain... what a thoroughly un-educated statement... March 14, 200916 yr OK, children, let's argue what we like and dislike about each city. This namecalling is ridiculous. And saying a city is better because a bunch of people moved there in the 90s doesn't count either (McDonald's sells more hamburgers than Heck's, so they must be far superior). "People desire to live in Atlanta, unlike Cleveland." Yo, you have some valid points and MTS has his share of ridiculous statements, but this one right here is pretty bad. I, for one, love Cleveland and have absolutely ZERO desire to ever live in Georgia (Atlanta = Georgia for all practical purposes as long as Savannah can be considered part of South Carolina). Also, my cousin, who lives in Atlanta, loves Cleveland and is looking for a job up here because he is sick of the traffic, suburban nature, and sticky summers of Atlanta. I also know some people who love Atlanta. It's not for everyone, though, and there are many redeeming qualities to Cleveland, which are more important to some people than others. That is what everyone arguing here seems to be missing.
March 15, 200916 yr I didn't mean to offend... my point was, Atlanta is growing while Cleveland is not... as a city or a metro... like a crying baby, every once in a while mts gets under my skin... the thread was started with angst and envy... just found the hillbilly line ironic, since as a youth, traveling to Cleveland had the same conotation which was imature and unimfomed OK, children, let's argue what we like and dislike about each city. March 16, 200916 yr which statement would be false? This one: People desire to live in Atlanta, unlike Cleveland. I desire to live in Cleveland and could never see myself living in Atlanta. Many of my friends would also prefer to live in Cleveland over Atlanta. Now, I am not saying that Atlanta is a horrible place; I am sure that there are some pretty awesome places in Atlanta. I am just saying that Atlanta is not somewhere I would want to live. And this: Things are stilling being built in Atlanta unlike Cleveland. Things are still being built in Cleveland. I took a random trip up there today and saw construction all along Euclid and in other random parts of downtown, University Hospitals in University Circle, and I know of several construction projects being planned for the University Circle/Little Italy area. I think that you are taking MTS too seriously and that you need to calm down; just because you are annoyed with MTS doesn't mean that you need to insult Cleveland and the people that live there or want to live there. There are redeemable qualities of both cities and if you want to make a case for Atlanta maybe you could list some awesome things about the city (something that tells more about the city like Cleveland's neighborhoods: Little Italy, Ohio City, Detroit-Shoreway, Downtown, Shaker Square, Coventry, Tremont, etc).
April 4, 200916 yr I, for one, love Cleveland and have absolutely ZERO desire to ever live in Georgia (Atlanta = Georgia for all practical purposes as long as Savannah can be considered part of South Carolina). You might be the only person I know who would consider Savannah part of South Carolina. Savannah is authentically Georgian and is where Georgia began. Besides, South Carolina already has Charleston.
