FAIRFIELD - Two years into development, Greater Cincinnati's wacky food paradise, Jungle Jim's International Market, is expanding.

Nine tenants such as Cici's Pizza, Raymond's Hong Kong Café, Complete Petmart and Flaggs USA, have signed leases to open shops in Jungle Jim's 40,000 square-foot, $2 million addition that resembles a mall...

Amazingly enough I ran across a person on the Billy Bragg forum, from the Detroit area, whos been to Jungle Jims.

The place really is special.  I love it.  And I need to make a return trip.  For the longest time that was the only place  in the area that carried Orangenia  (a soft drink from France).

The customers are a hoot....a real mix of Hamilton briar types, yuppies, and foreigners.

Jungle Jim's readies retail expansion

Lisa Biank Fasig

Staff reporter

The monorail won't be making its maiden voyage for a little while, but Jungle Jim's is finally handing over the retail space at its 40,000-square-foot outdoor expansion in Fairfield.

The strip center, part of a $10 million addition to the famous international foods emporium, will include 11 new tenants, such as Raymond's Hong Kong Café, Cici's Pizza and Complete Petmart. They join Starbucks and MaggieMoo's ice cream, which opened in late 2004, and a two-story, 1,000-person-capacity events center...

Jungle Jim's adjusting to keep pace with times

International food center growing more American

FAIRFIELD - Shoppers still fill their carts with premium produce, imported cheeses, specialty meats and exotic condiments at Jungle Jim's market. But increasingly, they are buying potato chips, peanut butter and paper towels as well.

This destination for food lovers has undergone a transformation in the last two years - adding specialty shops and expanding and rearranging the store's floor plan...

i was about to say, jj's attracts people from a lot further abroad than just hours away. its wacky and fun, but also has so much stuff you cannot otherwise get in the region. the monorail will be a hoot, who builds monorails?

Does anyone know what's the status of the new JJ in Oakley?

There is an article in this weeks business courier that states that the store is on hold till at least 2008. They are still trying to work the tax details out on the millworks project.

Hamilton briar types

Interesting you should say that. Last week in church I was listening to this older man from Fairfield talk about Hamilton. He asked why it was that Cincinnati had all the blacks and Hamilton has so many briars, the answer was that Cincinnati choose first. Anyway, I don't really see this today, as the appalachians are being replaced by hispanics, which is helping HCS's test scores and cleaning up the neighborhoods.

Say hi to Oscar: Jungle Jim's opens event hall

It's the name of one of the top awards an actor can receive.

It also is "Jungle" Jim Bonaminio's middle name and his grandfather's first name.

Oscar is the name of the newest attraction at Jungle Jim's International Market, and Oscar Event Center Coordinator Jessica Hamilton said the possibilities for the facility are limitless.

I just wish he would finish the monorail before we all have flying cars.

LOL - I like hitching rides on the golf carts that those old guys drive around their parking lot.

Eccentric grocer finds new habitat in corporate jungle

Bonaminio targets businesses with lavish event center

BY LISA BIANK FASIG | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

May 25, 2007

FAIRFIELD - In Fairfield, dozens of organizations are suddenly holding their meetings at the Jungle, but it feels more like a castle.

The Oscar Event Center, a 15,500-square-foot, upscale meeting space at Jungle Jim's International Market, has hosted more than 50 events since it quietly opened in December. More are planned - at least 40 corporate events so far for 2007 and 60 weddings through 2009.

But the center's owner, "Jungle Jim" Bonaminio, has yet to get the fliers out. He, in fact, has not spent a dime on advertising the Oscar center, which cost almost $4 million to build and appoint with plush drapes, giant wood beams and stately upholstered furnishings - not to mention the giant grape-cluster chandelier. It might take another $1 million before Bonaminio is finished; he still has to expand the kitchen and add dressing rooms and makeup rooms for entertainers.

Business to boom (again) at Jungle Jim's

GE Credit Union to build at northern end of complex; Chipotle, Panera Bread possible.

By Michael D. Pitman

Staff Writer

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Jungle Jim's International Market is looking to bring in at least three new tenants to his one-of-a-kind supermarket complex.  "Jungle" Jim Bonaminio said he has signed GE Credit Union to build a new facility on the northern end of the complex by Michael Lane. Using a baseball analogy, Bonaminio described his discussions with prospective tenants Chipotle and Panera Bread.

"GE Credit Union just walked over home plate. Chipotle is at third rounding into home and Panera is on first, thinking about stealing second," Bonaminio said. "I think Chipotle is a definite, Panera is really looking at it very, very seriously and we'll look at some other tenants to fill it in."

^And there was much rejoicing.

Just for events, eh? That's still cool, either way. I remember fondly the monorail they had in Dearborn, Michigan, that would go from the Fairlane Mall to one of the nearby hotels and back. Or was that Henry Ford's home? I don't remember exactly but it was thrilling when you were an  eight-year-old.

Who said Cincy would never see rail transit again? In your face, haters.

^ while you at hatin on the haters, you can greatfully thank a ne ohioan from lorain for all of it!

Is that where the jungle master is from?

Yes, he's from Lorain and went to Miami University.
