Embassy Suites at Reserve Square recently completed a $10 million dollar renovation in an effort to reposition itself as Cleveland's most affordable luxury hotel with five-star service and business-traveler friendly accommodations.  The renovations include:

    * 252 completely redesigned suites

    * New 24-hour business center

    * Remodeled atrium with marble flooring and new waterfall feature

    * Renovated health club

    * Updated boardrooms and ballrooms

    * And much more

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the media will be taken on a guided tour of the remodeled hotel. Embassy Suites and K&D Group officials will be available for interviews.

The media is also welcome to join us for the Grand Re-Opening celebration, Suite Indulgence, which will be held between 3 and 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19.  Suite Indulgence is an invitation-only event for area businesses and will include complimentary hors d'oeuvres, libations and sweet treats.

wish they would have put some of that coin into the apartments...K&D = SLUM LORDS

HUH?  I know you live in the building, but can you give more details as to why you would say that?

IIRC, when they bought the building, I thought they were going upgrade the rental units?

With all that the development they have done, its really hard, from the outside, to see why anyone would label them as slum lords.

i will be happy to go into more depth.  while they may have invested some in renovating their leasing office space on the first floor..(a flat panel TV, leather furniture, huh?) the rest of the building conintues to fall into disrepair.  a quick walk through on any of the floors or individual apartments will make this point abundantly clear.  here is a short list of what i have encountered since moving in a few months ago:

broken elevators

peeling wallpaper in halls

burned out lgihtbulbs

missing floor numbers

rooms:

leaking dishwasher, once fixed, water pressure in kitchen faucet went away

oven door would not close

electrical sockets not working

broken towel rack

fogged up windows from being poorly insulated

chipped drywall

doors not painted evenly

...this is just from my own room...when you file a complaint through there mainteneace dep.  it takes weeks WEEKS for them to even come to your apartment to look at it, assess the sitauion and then order parts...it is then another 2-3 weeks before they finally fix the thing s you had filed complants about months ago.  This is in no doubt due to the shear amount of things that need fixing...

plus K&D had a very shady line item in the rental agreement stipulating that they would be allowed to raise rent as much as $150/person if they have to...which i'm sure they'll try and do...

K&D is a very shady enterprise...

wow.  interesting.

pleas ebelieve me when i say i am not embellishing any of this...it has become so bad that the tenant have taken to forming our own committee which meets weekly to address the numerous issues with K&D

Well, unfortunately it's not the first time we've heard similar anecdotes about K&D properties.  I recall reading on here before (and also hearing once from a friend) that day-to-day management of Stonebridge isn't exactly world-class.

Maybe their core competency is acquiring and/or developing properties and they should look at hiring a quality management company to focus on what they don't do well, i.e. day-to-day management.

Or hopefully, these are just somewhat isolated instances and once they get Reserve Square into a better operational state the issues will slowly die down and they'll get to a point where their staff can handle them better.

Sooooooo, the mister ran to the ATM in Reserve Square yesterday, and he said it looked like the supermarket was closing.  Anyone have any details?  Also, Scorchers is being turned into some kind of rib joint.  And there was apparently some kind of small fire there again this afternoon, the cavalry have been there for quite a while, but I don't see any smoke from mi casa!

It's the rib pit!  LOL  It's all a part of the pre opening marketing campaign.

Heh, that would be funny, but no, the trucks were on the E. 13th side of the building.

There was an article about the closing of the Reserve Square market last week in peedee. I can't believe no one posted it yet. Just search the peedee. I am 0n my cell right now and its not cooperating

It's been posted, just not in the appropriate thread

Perhaps the above thread should be merged into this thread?

This is extremely frustrating for downtown residents, especially with all the new residents of CSU and Collegetown coming in during the next 6 months.  But if they're not making money, they're not making money.

I knew it was posted somewhere, I commented on it.

I think that store could have been fixed/saved, but it would have taken a massive overhaul.  Constantino's is expanding, this store is closing; one store is upscale and has fresh and interesting foods at mid to high prices, the other had low quality foods at mid to low prices.  If they could have remade that market into a mini whole foods type place, I bet it would have thrived.

I wonder if this opens up room for another grocer in eastern downtown.  It's actually not that uncommon for universities to subsidize grocers to improve their local communities, but I doubt CSU has the $ for that right now.

It will be interesting to see how much non snack food this new Reserve Square convenience store carries and how much this annoys the residents.

With regards to the overall renovations, K&D thinks it's a good idea to make the place even more of a bunker?  Genius!
