1990 saw the end of the cold war; Bon Jovi, Madonna, and Luther Vandross topped the music charts. Meanwhile in Washington D.C., Mayor Marion Barry was puffing on his crack pipe.

I’ve posted a couple of these before but most are new, scanned negatives from 35mm black & white film.

Cool pics!

Good shots, good scans. That first one is particularly striking.

Awesome!

Great photographs thanks for sharing! I wish someone would do Cincinnati in the 90's. Cinergy Field, old Fountain Square . . .

That little girl from the wedding party has NO ieda how lucky she is to be in that sweet a** ride!  Looks like a classic 80's era Crown Vic or something.  Check out how boxy that dashboard is!

Cinergy Field.. Eww.. You mean Riverfront? I don't even like Cincy and that sent shivers down my spine..

There are some on here. There was a post with a lot of old 80’s Cincinnati photos. Try the search function or maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

I'm not sure if black & whites need to be scanned differently than color? They came out like crap; it took a lot to get them to look like they do. They came out dark and muddy. The original prints I developed still look better than these. :|

haha time flies -- that girl is all grown up now.

makes you wonder, maybe she's even married herslf now?

It may have to do with your scanner and scanner software. I use a Nikon scanner and Nikon Scan software (v4.2). The software includes Digital ICE (Image Correction and Enhancement) from Applied Science Fiction (now Kodak's Austin Development Center), but in my experience all the built-in image correction features of the scanner software should be turned off when scanning B&W negatives. I do a preview and adjust the black and white points in the scanner software, but usually everything else waits until I get the image into Photoshop.

Some B&W negatives seem to scan better as RGB, although I'm not sure why. Once you get them into photoshop or whatever software you're using, you can tune them up and then convert them to grayscale.

I started out with a Microtek 8700 flatbed with film/transparency capability, but it didn't have sufficient dynamic range to handle a lot of my slides and negs. Everything came out flat and muddy, and areas that were outside the scanner's dynamic range just grayed out in B&W or dithered on color transparencies. I upgraded to a Nikon 4000ED and found it infintely better than the Microtek.

I was warned and clicked anyway!  Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd.  :|

Those pictures brought back memories, as I watched Key Tower go up. My department hadn't been in ST very long and it was awesome to watch KT and other developments rise.

Nice photography as art... It's interesting (and kinda sad) that, had you not mentioned it, I'd think those photos were recent... except for the clue of Key Bank under const on Public Square.  It's uncomfortable to say, but from a distance, at least, downtown hasn't changed all that much in nearly 2 decades.

Yes, the whole world knows that you don't like Cincy.

Beautiful photos!

That's right, and I shall continue to project that message to the world.  However, that's like calling Candlestick Park.. ugh.. Monster Park..
