CLEVELAND CHASING IMMORALITY

Looks like our city is going out of its way to bring this incredibly immoral activity to town. This is truly pathetic news. To think that children should be told that this sexual behavior is now moral is a tragedy of the highest order.

Recognizing these immoral games as something to be celebrated is a direct slap in the face to our nation's God-given values. The Bible is clear: same-sex sex is something the Good Lord despises. When the Bible mentions homosexuality it has nothing even remotely good to say about it. Homosexuality angers God just about as much as anything possibly could.

People who are involved in same-sex sex need to come out of this sinful behavior. This can be done by asking God for help. He's always there and waiting for someone who's partaking in such immorality to call on Him for the strength to turn their life around.

For those of you in this lifestyle, God wants to hear from you.

God Bless

Well Scardelletti according to your bible logic slavery is ok, the bible says so hundreds of times. Maybe Cleveland should try to get the slavery games so we can be more moral according to the bible

Please.  Lets spare this board and thread of that negative BS.  That person has a negative opinion about almost any article published.

:|

I just thought the E. 4th person's response was witty.  GO CLEVELAND!  Wohoo!  :-D

The bigots will come out of the woodwork, especially if this progresses to the point of actually landing the games.  A mayor in a suburb of Chicago (Lake Zurich I believe) did not want them to use a proposed lake in his suburb for the games, and the American Family Assoc. (or whatever it is) had a boycott of Kraft for sponsoring them.  I'm sure we'll be hearing from that idiot fringe group (CCV) in Cincinnati on this.

In the end the lake was used and Kraft did not waiver and did not suffer from the boycott.  Hopefully it will not deter the process in Cleveland when these groups start to make noise.

Not to get too theoretical but what really is the "American family" today?  If AFA represents the ideal/typical/etc. "American family", thank God I will have no part in that!

On a happy note!  Could you imagine if we get these games?!  Granted we'll need to step things up a notch downtown and in adjacent neighborhoods (ie, shopping, hotels, things that you all have mentioned previously) but 2013 is the Senior Games followed by these games?!  That's a lot of exposure at a time when Cleveland will hopefully be hitting its stride and novelty of the Nashvilles and such will have passed.

In the meantime, I need to boycott [email protected] :-P

I can see it now, with the Terminal Towers new high-tech lighting abilities, bathed in rainbow colors, alternating in disco fashion...

Please turn in your gay card now!

I was joking...  I was trying to show my (apparently) newly outed gay colors, even if however tastless.

Since when has NashVegas been categorized as a "novelty".  I would classify it more of "joke".

Boy you crack me up.  Don't make me get Rican...that's even worse.  OK?!

I just hope they use the name I came up with..

Columbus should get in on this. We only have the 2nd largest gay population in all the Midwest after Chicago. Who better? (That was rhetorical, and the answer is not Cleveland!)

^ So in the city population, Cincinnati has an estimated higher % of SS couples than Cleveland? ... I told you suckers.

Well, to be fair, Cleveland does have a larger city boundary so as far as gays in the city, I think it's about equal for Cinci and Cleveland if you were to extend Cinci's boundaries. Also, theres a huge difference between males and females in each city. There's nothing even close to being a consistant ratio of gay males to lesbians in cities and metro areas. Strange.

I'm not too sure about the validity of these statistics though; they seem really low but if they're off I guess they're off about equally for each city.

Well, to be fair, Cleveland does have a larger city boundary so as far as gays in the city, I think it's about equal for Cinci and Cleveland.

Cincinnati has a larger land area than Cleveland.

But this and all of these other nonsense stats have nothing to do with Cleveland's bid for the 2014 games.

^ & ^^ ... Good points, because we all know the 'burbs is the #1 area of choice for the GLBT community on a national level. ;) ... Plus, the 4 sq. mi. difference (79 & 82 sq. mi.) makes all the difference.

Seriously, if Cleveland's MSA gay pop. is higher than Cincy's, then the extended boundaries would give Cleveland the upper-hand (unless you're a conservative evangelical xtian). It's simple math, peeps. Plus, it's 4 freakin miles.

Personally, I'm not going to say anything else about it. We all know where this road goes. I was more or less joking around, because of some of our previous conversations. Another point that has to be looked at is, unless the Census comes out with a "valid" form of counting gays/lesbians, we'll really never know for sure. However, I would like to take about 20 mins. and read their methodology on coming up with these stats. It's interesting none-the-less.

Ok, sorry to hijack the thread!  :cool2:

First of all since when does Cleveland or Cincinnati have 82 square miles? Also if it is simple math since when does 82-79 = 4? Also according to the U.S Census both Cleveland and Cincinnati have 77 square miles.

You must have looked on wikipedia which includes the 4.8 square miles of water and last time I checked not many people lived literally "on" the water  :-P

Now that this is all cleared up can we just stick to the story please?

If they would've included Lakewood we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Great news.  Hope that they make a good presentation.  The city has many obstacles to overcome reputation wise.  It does not enjoy a wide notoriety among gay travelers, has few amenities to offer, and is generally off the beaten track.  That can be marketed as an advantage as well....at least there is little negative.  The square dance convention mentioned earlier was a success, but not nearly comparable to when held in a more glamorous city.

The other positive thing is that 2014 is far enough in the future that some progress can be made.  No one expects Fifth Avenue or Rodeo Drive, but there have to be some amenities. Playhouse Square, the Symphony, the Museum, the parks, etc, all need to be played up.

One last thing: it should definitely not be marketed as "tolerant".  That is anathema to any GLBTQ selection committee!!!! No one wants to be tolerated! They want to be celebrated and included.

Just my two cents, as an outside observer.  Good luck Cleveland.

Good news.

After scanning through the articles, I could not find any mention of when this decision would be made. Does anyone know?

I just found out my friend Doug is on the committee trying to bring the games here.  Check him out in this (brief) clip on fox8 cleveland!  I'm so excited!

CLEVELAND, Ohio, December 9, 2008 – In an effort to secure the opportunity for Cleveland to be the host city for Gay Games IX and increase the broad-base appeal of the event, Cleveland Synergy Foundation today expanded its proposed sports events to include a rodeo through a partnership with the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA).  This marks the first time in the Gay Games twenty-six year history the IGRA has been engaged to produce a rodeo for the event.

“We are pleased to support Cleveland Synergy Foundation’s bid to host the Gay Games in Cleveland,” remarked IGRA president, Brian Helander.  “This provides an opportunity for the best amateur rodeo athletes in the world to compete in this internationally recognized event.”

Boasting more than 5,000 members across the United States and Canada, the IGRA represents one of the largest LGBT organizations in existence. The IGRA joins local supporters including the City of Cleveland, Cleveland City Council, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Positively Cleveland in Cleveland Synergy Foundation’s initiative to secure the Gay Games IX in Cleveland.

“We are extremely pleased to collaborate with the IGRA in our effort to make Cleveland the home for Gay Games 2014,” commented W. Doug Anderson, co-founder of Cleveland Synergy Foundation.  “The inclusion of a rodeo enhances our bid to host the event and helps build Canadian participation through IGRA’s strong membership base.”

Gay Games IX will be held in 2014 and will include more than thirty sporting and cultural events.  More than 12,000 participants and tens of thousands of family, friends, fans, and spectators are anticipated to travel to the host city for the event.  Past Gay Games have yielded a significant economic impact to host cities, with estimates ranging from $60-$80 million.

Cleveland's Gay Games Bid: The Coalition

Written by Brian Patrick Thornton

Wednesday, 07 January 2009 00:29

Part two of three in Spangle's series on Cleveland's Gay Games bid.

If you’re three men and one newly founded organization trying to bid for and put on a 10-day sporting event for 20,000 athletes and 250,000 spectators, you might need a little help.

W. Doug Anderson, Jeff Axberg and Brian Tavolier — co-founders of the Cleveland Synergy Foundation, the organization behind the region’s 2014 Gay Games bid — are starting to get that covered.

When they announced their plans at a press conference in October, they were joined by representatives from the city of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Positively Cleveland (the city’s convention and visitors bureau). Since then, the trio added support from Cleveland City Council, as well as the Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau...

Cleveland's Gay Games Bid: The Federation's View

Written by Brian Patrick Thornton

Part three of three in Spangle's series on Cleveland's Gay Games bid.

Kelly Stevens, a board member in charge of communications for the Federation of Gay Games, says Cleveland has a “great chance” to be selected as the host of the 2014 event.

Phew.

He sees among the city’s assets: its relative bargain and location as compared to competitors Boston, Miami and Washington, D.C. (Because many Gay Games athletes come from the United States, Cleveland is geographically closer to more of the country than the other three.)

But what about the issue of the other three cities being considered likelier destinations for queer travelers?...

http://www.spanglemagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=178:gay-games-3&catid=41:miscellaneous&Itemid=78

Would the new medical mart/convention center be complete in time for this potential event?  Anyone have an idea if this facility would play a role in the games?

Cleveland named one of 3 finalists to host 2014 Gay Games

Posted by Laura Johnston/Plain Dealer Reporter March 17, 2009 17:36PM

CLEVELAND — In 2014, the international Gay Games will land in Boston, Washington or Cleveland.

Fourteen cities originally expressed interest in hosting the event, which had its beginning in San Francisco in 1982 and draws about 12,000 participants.

But only three submitted detailed bids by this past weekend's deadline.

Cleveland's bid for "My Games Rock 2014" includes opening and closing ceremonies at Browns stadium and 34 sports -- 24 required events, including swimming, basketball, figure skating and softball, as well as non-traditional events, such beach volleyball and, in a first for the games, rodeo. They would take place downtown and in Akron....

Cleveland is a finalist and still confident it can win 2014 Gay Games: Whatever happened to ... ?

Posted by The Plain Dealer July 12, 2009 19:07PM

Categories: Real Time News, Whatever Happened To...

Since March, when Cleveland was named a finalist for the international games -- along with Boston and Washington, D.C. -- local organizers have lined up endorsements and honed their pitch.

The Cleveland Synergy Foundation, formed last year to attract the games, is preparing a major welcome for a site selection committee due to arrive in town July 30.

I was at the 2006 gay games, and the city was swarming with kids, shopping, eating, partying and sight seeing.

Even if we don't get the games, this could raise our "gay" street cred as a  open and tolerant city that is a great place to live and play!

As a straight male...I feel like I post the most about this!  Although this article is nothing too new, it still some more coverage, and they're in town next weekend to scope out Cleveland.  I didn't realize the event is open to the public.  As a reminder then:

There's nothing frivolous about "Frivolity." In fact, there could be $100 million riding on it.

The party, which hits the Rock and Hall of Fame and Museum on Friday, is the culmination of months of hard work in an attempt to lure the Gay Games to Cleveland in 2014...

Thanks sugar.  We like breeders, we don't bite, unless requested and even then ..... well you get the picture.  LOL

the high lighted is the most important factor.

This would be great for the city of Cleveland as well as all of Northeast Ohio since it seems events would be scattered throughout. Heres hoping we come out of the final 3 cities victorious!!

The PD has been doing that a bit more lately (thank god).  I'm kinda bummed I'm not gonna be around next weekend!  But I surely hope to be around when Cleveland hosts the Gay Games in 2014!!!!!

When im extremely bored at work ill go to that dumphole and have a little laugh to myself.

Just a reminder that this Friday night (July 31st) is the event at the Rock Hall.  We need this to be well attended to show the sight selection committee that Cleveland supports this and is the place.  You dont have to be gay to attend, you just have to love Cleveland (since this would be a huge win for Cleveland)

Cleveland has a good chance, and rates high in most of the categories, but they need to see peoples support and energy.  (I know for a fact that the Cleveland contingent is planning much more to woo the committee than DC and Boston (which some may think would have an edge) and have underestimated Cleveland).  In fact, most people in DC don't even know they are in the running.

    WHO: YOU

    WHAT: FRIVOLITY COMMUNITY EVENT

WHERE: ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM

    WHEN: FRIDAY, JULY 31 @ 8PM

WHY: BECAUSE YOU WANT CLEVELAND TO WIN. AND, BECAUSE IT’S A FREE PARTY.

    Dear Friends,

You’re invited to a global party.

It’s not just any party—it’s a celebration. A celebration all about why we love Cleveland, and          why we’re proud to call Ohio home.

On July 31 at 8 P.M. at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Cleveland, the Cleveland Synergy Foundation is throwing the “Frivolity” community event, a free night of music, entertainment, and celebration. You’ll have exclusive access to the entire Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum—for free.

Why the party? The city of Cleveland is a finalist to host the 2014 Gay Games, a global event that promises to enhance the social and economic profile of Cleveland. But to win the world’s support, we need your support.

How can you be a part of this historic event? Simply show up and celebrate. It’s free—go to www.clevelandsynergyfoundation.org and print out your invitation.

This party promises to be THE EVENT of the summer, and you are invited. Come out and show your support for Cleveland as the host for the 2014 Gay Games.

You Rock. Cleveland Rocks.  My Games Rock.

    Be there.

So the event is tonight...I'm very curious to see how attendence will be, especially since I haven't heard it advertized very much.  Unless it's been through newsletter/email or something.

I don't get back in town until next week, so I won't be able to stop by.

It was around.  I know in the gay friendly publications and such it was advertised, but I also saw it in Cool Cleveland and a recent article in the PD.  I believe the other alternatives would have had an add about it as well.

I wasnt able to make it into town to attend but will get feedback later.
