October 17, 200816 yr Great Art Institute building, and a great Masonic Temple building...there is almost an exact replica in DC. The pictures near UD make me feel hungover...everytime I've driven on those roads, it's been coming back from a long night of drinking in "the ghetto" lol.
October 17, 200816 yr nice... the area just outside of UD has come a long way since I graduated 11 years ago....gawd I feel old now.
October 18, 200816 yr Wow that river is low. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 18, 200816 yr That Metro'park' makes me appreciate our riverfront parks in Cincy even more. It looks like they just plopped a couple of benches down, mowed the grass and called it a park....
October 18, 200816 yr Uh...no. The Metroparks system is fantastic for such "low-rivers." The park he took a photo of is a city park that hasn't been updated in years.
Sunrise lets the view of the river and downtown do the work. I don't think every park needs a statue and playground. (Although there is a playground, basketball courts, spraypark, and picnic shelter right across Edwin C. at McIntosh Park.) The main riverfront park in Dayton is Riverscape, which I guess might be more to your liking. Dayton is fortunate that an Interstate highway doesn't seperate downtown from its signature riverfront park.
October 19, 200816 yr The Five Rivers Metroparks System is more than just urban parks. Carriage Hill Farm, on the outskirts of Dayton, is one of the better historic farm properties in the midwest in terms of size, general state of maintenance, and authenticity. I recognize that my age, farm background, and continuing interest in ag history set me apart from most people on these boards, but I still recommend a visit to carriage hill, especially in summer, for anyone who wants a break from hot pavement and traffic noise and can appreciate walking in tall grass and on dirt paths and escaping the urban scene with only a short drive. It really is a beautiful, peaceful place.
