  I've been following this for a few years.  It's nice to see that it's closer to becoming a reality.  Becoming a hub for research in what could become the primary fuel source of the future could be mean nice things for the economy in Greater Akron as well as all N.E. Ohio.

This is exactly the transition our economy needs; high tech manufacturing.  I have a good feeling about this venture, especially considering the resources available in the area.

^ Agreed.  I'm happy see that their selling the assetts of the region versus offering a boat load of tax incentives.  I really have a good feeling about this (plus Ovshinsky is an Akron native an seems to be truely interested in bringing jobs back to his hometown).

it's a perfect fit for the region.

hey make some of those tech people fly into ohio for work for a change instead of vice-versa!

In a mere four years -- the length of time it takes to get a college degree, assuming you don't spend all of your time next to the keg -- this society fully embraced a radically new technology.

Akron Steel Treating site to be leased to firm for hydrogen fuel project

By John Higgins Beacon Journal staff writer

Akron will buy the old Akron Steel Treating Co. site for $680,000 and lease it to a Michigan company that wants to test hydrogen fuel storage tanks for a new generation of nonpolluting cars and other applications.

Akron City Council approved the purchase Monday night. The city will lease the building on South Broadway Street to Ovonics Hydrogen Systems LLC for five years free of charge; after that, Ovonics could buy or lease the facility.
