The other thing about these kinds of jobs is that typically there's somebody besides the manager who's bossing you around from the moment you set foot on the premises your first day, then a bit later you find out they'd only started 2 weeks before you.

Ugh. I hate that. There's always the 45 year old male server that acts like he runs sh!t. When I worked at a certain d/t restaurant this guy would take a week off and claim he needed to take off for a modeling gig in san francisco or some other bs. He was also in the military and talked about living in other countries as if he was there a long time and knew so much about different cultures. First day I started he goes "how old are you?" I said "21", he said "hmm where was I at 21.. oh yeah, BEIRUT". I should have said "where are you at 45? Oh yeah, Serving..stfu". The older male servers tend to be narcissistic a-holes.

It comes with age.  When you're 40, you'll see.

so before 40, you were neither?

bob evans. oh god. my first real, official, non-bootleg job. the summer i graduated from hs. what a funny place:

lines wrapped around the building on busy mornings, especially weekend mornings. the managers out in front waving around and competing with kuntry kitchen managers for busses. bussing tables and washing dishes. getting to the 'arbiter' of tips, as bussers get to the tables first. the managers always saying, "hey buddy, can i get a push-push on that carpet?" the cooks smashing cups and plates at night to let off steam after we closed. the waitress who thought the old foreigner pop song 'urgent' was 'virgin' and would sing, "virgin, e-mer-gen-cy! virgin! virgin!" and most of all the things they would put in the mush...don't ever order the mush!  :-o

For what it's worth, I also avoid places like Perkins, IHOP, for that reason alone. Back to Bob Evans - the atmosphere was bumpkin-ish - the gingham patterns, craftsy decor, is pretty much the opposite of what I care for.

I beg to differ:

I couldn't believe there was no main thread for Bob Evans, the restaurant.

Bob Evans plans 40 days of celebration

Restaurant marks 40th anniversary with kickoff at Chillicothe location

Chillicothe Gazette, October 23, 2008

When Bob Evans stood in 1968 just off Bridge Street at the site of what would become the first Bob Evans restaurant outside of his Rio Grande farm, he had no idea how his new business idea would fare.

Now, 40 years later, the chain of restaurants he founded is ready to celebrate, and the Chillicothe locations will be part of that celebration.

Hey, if MayDay's partner drags him out to the boonies to pick pumpkins, everyone knows he's going to dress accordingly and rock a flannel like no other.

Yes, Ms. Honey is appropriately dressed.  I'm curious to know what you flipflop lovin' whippersnappers would wear?

Just to clarify it's a Banana Republic plaid shirt and a vest from Nordstrom - but yes, if I'm going out to the country I'm butching it up a little.

I wasn't saying anything negative MayDay, I was just saying if you're gonna go "butch" as you call it, you're at least gonna do it right.

Hate that place, their food makes me wanna hurl.

Bob Evans is the reason Ihop is outlawed in Columbus.

Liked the food but hated working there!

There is a Bob Evans thread.  Merge!

Seriously, one Bob Evans thread is already one too many.

Yes, in the UrbanBar, which had to do more with a survey than anything else. If we have threads for other restaurants that originated in Ohio in this category...

Then we also have the one about Bob Evans himself dying, but I thought it would be tasteless to rename the thread and create a catch-all for that.

Thanks!  My luck it's probably not from this season.

No Wrangler, Rustler or Canyon River Blues?

I LOVE Wrangler jeans.

You can take Seicer out of Kentucky but you can't take the Kentucky out of Seicer. Jeez.
