Just across the Detroit-Superior Bridge from downtown is one of Cleveland’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods, Ohio City.

Wow. I can't believe how beautiful this neighborhood is. While some of the color schemes aren't my cup of tea, these houses are among some of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

Really, really nice job .. thanks for that!! Who wouldn't want to buy a house in this area??

Another great post...  You even got my old house and some of my friends' houses in there, but you missed my current one by a few blocks.  Maybe you'll get it during your Detroit-Shoreway tour!

Great set! Ohio City has some great housing stock indeed.

I love the mix of stone and wood on this one:

Nice!

Architecture is really diverse. Looks cozy.

Some of those houses must be 3500-4000 sq. ft.

I wish you guys would post pics of other neighborhoods beside Ohio City, Tremont, Shaker Heights, and University Circle though, for us out-of-towners. (Hey, I have a right to complain - I took pics of basically everything worth seeing in Columbus - last summer).

People have.  Remember, recently someone commented (from their car) about Ohio City.

and for the love of God, it's Shaker SQUARE!! :whip:

Are you sure about that? I'm almost positive he was talking about Asiatown. That's neither here nor there - I don't know why you're bringing that up lol

I hope you realize I live in Fort Lauderdale...  :-)

This one's my favorite ;)

Traitor! By moving south of Cincinnati you committed treason.

Oh, and since you brought it up... Why aren't there more pics of Ft. Lauderdale or Miami?  (j/k).

Stalker! That's my house.

You might want to take the pic out of that post if you truely don't want to be stalked lol.

Amazing pictures. You covered some spots that I haven't seen yet, and now I really want to go back though Ohio City.

Sweet photos! Nice light and color saturation, and you gave the residential part of Ohio City more attention than it usually gets.

These are the threads I love the most.  You captured the residential and human element of the neighborhood beautifully.  Ohio City boasts an excellent housing stock.

Wow.

I'll take one of each please.

Nice job on a classic Cleve hood... these shots could post on a Howard-Hanna OC home tour.

3231, great house!  It's so cute.  I love the picket fence and porch.

Man, with the fall colors mixed with the cross section of colors of the homes...  Even though I live here, I sometimes forget how bad ass this neighborhood is.

Last night I had a conversation with Craig Bobby, a longtime friend in Lakewood and self-appointed champion of Ohio's Victorian architectural treasures. I mentioned the new UO photo thread featuring Ohio City and he said he had "seen them all". When I visited Lakewood a few years back, Craig had wanted me to take a tour of Ohio City but my travel schedule was too hectic to make that possible. I now regret not re-shuffling my priorities to take in this beautiful neighborhood. As nice as Ohio City is, Cleveland has lost so much of it's historic architecture-I have a book gifted to me a few years back about Cleveland's lengendary Euclid Avenue corridor. At one time, it was one of the most prestigious addresses in America and home to such figures as John D. Rockefeller. While Euclid Avenue has been almost totally lost to progress, Ohio City seems to still retain its historic character. I will make it a priority to see it the next time I'm in the area. Thanks for sharing!

John, there are a lot of Cleveland neighborhoods that still have "amazing" architecture.  The problem is that there isn't good representation on Urbanohio of those neighborhoods.

The most popular neighborhoods, like OhioCity or the various Downtown neighborhoods get the most attention and photo recognition.

Really quaint!

Great!

Stalker! That's my house.

Nice paint job!

I love the Victorianesque housing in Ohio City and I think that the crazy color schemes add to their character. Then again, this comes from the girl who wanted the color scheme of her room to be purple and orange (I was 9 though, lol).

ITA. Cleveland is separated into 36 or so neighborhoods and most of them are barely covered on UO (if they have been covered at all). Like, the area around the Rockefeller Park in Glenville, which has many beautiful homes.

lemme guess, there's no homeowners' association

Anyone see that this thread got a shout-out in Ohio City Near West's e-newsletter?

Awesome! But how does Florida Guy feel about that?

Maybe you can talk to them about submitting your photos for an online gallery for them or something, Florida Guy?

Great photos.  The residential part of Ohio City is definitely my favorite part.  What is the flag on this house though:

128.jpg

I saw it on a couple of houses.

PS - I'm sick of seeing Shaker Circle threads too, can someone post some East Cleveland pics?  I'm really curious to see what it looks like with the Health Line going through it.

Prokno5,

Shaker Square, not Circle!!!  Or are you confusing it with University Circle?

The flag that you talk about is the original Ohio City flag. Back in the early to mid 1800s, Ohio City was a separate municipality before it was annexed. Like many cities, it had its own flag.

Jesus, I wish we had that much pride.

Shaker Square or University Circle?  Which one is it sugar?

Just kidding, darling.  You know we already hashed through that one when I took my vacation out there in summer.

I have added more images that somehow got left out. Thank you all for the comments.

Thanks for the add.  Man, I would not want to live across from the Pepto-Bismol Palace.

I know this is an old thread but what great pictures! Nice Job!

Definitely a Hall of Fame thread. But I may be biassed, being a third generation native of Ohio City.

My mother and I were born in Lutheran Hospital when it still had Labor and Delivery. My grandmother was born  in a house just off W. 25th St.

So I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the neighborhood today compared to the one you grew up in, or even the one your mother grew up in...

Reminds me a lot of Buffalo. Nice pics, never even knew about this part of the city or else I might have seen it.
