Posted October 25, 200816 yr Located about 20 minuets west/southwest of Hamilton, Shandon is the first Welsh settlement in Ohio. It is my favorite rural Butler County village, although it isn't technically incorporated lying in Morgan Township. October 25, 200816 yr Thanks, Ink! This one of the most unpretentious yet charming Ohio villages I've seen in photos and compares favorably with the unique character of Shawnee. I especially liked the book store which is housed in an early 1800's Federal Style house that appears to have been "Queen-Anne'd" with Neo-classical embelishments and interior remodeling around 1900. Nice to know it is but a short distance from Hamilton. It's now on my "must see" list.
October 26, 200816 yr NEVER heard of this place. Wow, thanks! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 26, 200816 yr Ink, if you look in that cemetery, in the first row by the street there are some union soldiers from Shandon who were prisoners of war and died in the steamboat explosion while coming back north. The Welsh settlement history is interesting. Also the townsfolk here have been organizing to oppose a new racetrack proposed on a nearby farm, but the man building the track recently died in a race accident. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080915/NEWS01/309150072
