Posted November 1, 200816 yr Whats your favorite International City and why? I tried to include the big ones, like the US thread did, but If you'd like me to include a city, please let me know! [Edit]: Fixed typo in title - rob_1412
November 1, 200816 yr My vote goes to Berlin. Its not the most beautiful city in Europe or Germany for that matter, but it has an amazing and interesting story and, if you look hard enough, you can find neighborhoods that are just as attractive and lovely as those in London, Rome, Paris, or Vienna.
November 1, 200816 yr It was hard. I went with London for one thing. Harvey Nichols! I also love Madrid, Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez and Caracas.
November 1, 200816 yr of those listed, paris. I havent been to many on the list. But my favorite that I have been to is Amsterdam. So damn pretty. Want to go to Copenhagen!

November 2, 200816 yr Dubrovnik, Croatia A Woman that works for me, is originally from Dubrovnik. She was just there in September. Its one clean place. The "walled" in cityscapes were amazing in pictures.
November 2, 200816 yr I am not sure I can pick yet. My fondest day is in Valencia, Spain. I would live there tomorrow if I could. It is a remarkable place, but not a huge city. Rome takes my breath away, but it is exhausting. London, fun , fun, fun- I feel pretty comfortable there. Love all of Scandinavia....if Valencia were on there though, I would pick it
November 2, 200816 yr Tough to choose. If I were in international jet setting trust funder I would live in Amsterdam in summer and Rome in winter. I chose Rome in the poll, though.
November 2, 200816 yr ichiban tokyo!! hai!!....well, wait. i will try to confirm that one next summer. i would have said istanbul, but frankly it was better when it was constantinople. (and what? rio? caracas? santiago? but no BsAs or sao paulo on that list?)

In that case there is no San Juan!
November 2, 200816 yr i would have said istanbul, but frankly it was better when it was constantinople. "It's Istanbul, not Constantinople anymore!" "Even old New York was once New Amsterdam" I first heard that song when I was about 15 years old. That would make it around 1954.
November 2, 200816 yr "Well I've got Island blood running thru my vains so I prefer warm weather beach climates". I'm a big ole Krout so I prefer the cooler climates! Hence my love of Canada (Thats not the ONLY reason though).

November 3, 200816 yr Of that list, I've only been to Berlin, Paris, Cologne (only for one hour) and Amsterdam. I liked Amsterdam the most, but Berlin was fascinating as well. I'm withholding my vote until I visit more cities.
November 3, 200816 yr Of the cities listed, Paris. Am hoping to change it to Buenos Aires, but first must visit. Have made friends with a number of Argentinians here in SF lately and am very impressed by their warmth and kindness. And have heard that it is beautiful and inexpensive; a winning combination to be sure.

I can't figure out why I dislike Paris, but I just can't get into all the hype!

November 3, 200816 yr Paris, without question. But if Barcelona was on this poll... "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 3, 200816 yr Perhaps the thread title should include "non-US" if no US cities are available for selection.

I just like island or tropical locations. I know in 15 years I'm going to be like my grandparents. April thru Thanksgiving or Christmas in Cleveland, then off to PR, January thru the end of March.
November 3, 200816 yr Amsterdam for the mix of contemporary and historic architecture, the trams, drugs, etc. Though if Prague were on the list I would have a hard time choosing one over the other. So dark and just a weird place in general.
November 3, 200816 yr Vienna, without any hesitation, is my favorite. It's got history, culture, art, great public transportation, 4 seasons, smaller crowds than some of the more touristy cities on the list, short train ride to the Alps, centrally located between all the other great locations in Europe.

It's got history, culture, art, great public transportation, 4 seasons, smaller crowds than some of the more touristy cities on the list, short train ride to the Alps, centrally located between all the other great locations in Europe. Amen! I adore Vienna! Its such a lovely city and of all the big Germanic cities, the most beautiful. But that just my opinion. Still love Berlin though!
November 4, 200816 yr Have to say that Paris is my favorite of the cities listed--but there are others I do like better. Budapest is my favorite European city, followed by Antwerp, neither of which is listed. Budapest is like a small Paris with really nice people and Antwerp is so unique, historic and cosmopolitan. Buenos Aires may be overrated, but the people sure aren't! Absolutely the nicest group of people I have ever met, hands down. And the best looking. Have been spending almost all my free time the last few months on projects relating to the area around BsAs, and have grown to appreciate it without ever having been there.
November 4, 200816 yr No Romes out there? I know it can come off dirty, but the history and the FOOD...I am going to go with Rome, i guess it doesnt help im second generation italian...slightly slanted, but still amazing city!!
November 4, 200816 yr I see three Romes, including me. The food, history, lifestyle, people- great. I love Amsterdam's built environment more, and I'm a sucker for the canals, but when everything is considered Rome comes out on top in my mind. Barcelona, Grenada, Hamburg and Berlin also deserve mention as cities I love.
November 4, 200816 yr Anyone who wants to donate some money to my travel fund so i can see firsthand what some of these cities are like let me know, you will not upset me in any way by offering me money, thanks! I voted for london since that and Toronto are the only cities on that list ive actually been to. Im going to scotland christmas day and if all goes right ill be going to paris for a few days while im there.
November 4, 200816 yr I don't think i can honestly vote in this poll. I've not been to any foreign country other than Canada
November 4, 200816 yr I don't think i can honestly vote in this poll. I've not been to any foreign country other than Canada Aww. Well you work on that in '09. OK?

November 4, 200816 yr ^ I traveled the world quite a bit as a poor college student. I spent a few summers and some semesters off volunteering for an international nonprofit organization. (I'll choose not to name said org for a variety of reasons.) During those travels I got to see a lot parts of the world that most tourists aren't too interested in, and got some days off in the most beautiful cities in the world. The pay was, well, non-existant, but I had a lot more fun than anything I've done since. The experience did help distract me from my studies, and may have contributed to me dropping out of the University of Akron, but it was fun while it lasted.
