December 1, 200816 yr Yuengling, Christian Moerlein Over-the-Rhine, Christian Moerlein Christkindl, Abita Amber, Stella Artois, Mt. Carmel Copper The only beer I drink of the crappy variety is Bud Light...the rest are just a waste of time.
December 1, 200816 yr ^Mt. Carmel Copper Ale is spectacular. If I'm at Mac's or Dewey's, that's what I get. I'm assuming that you're naming Yuengling on experience rather than availability. I'd agree with you on that one too though. Whenever I head up to Erie or Rochester, I pick up a tall or a six of it.
December 16, 200816 yr Can anyone tell me why the Morelein Emancipator Dopplebock is so difficult to find? I enjoyed it at Highlands, a couple months ago, but then it was gone. More recently, I had some at Grammer's last week. The bartender told me that not many people have been ordering it. What's the deal with that? It's the best Morelein beer of them all!

It's a seasonal. The new batch was just tapped last Friday and should be in stores and bars soon.
February 3, 200916 yr i had a pennichuck chocolate porter on draft sunday afternoon. it's a new hampshire brewery. inky black and very good balance. it's one to look for -- i loved it. prior to that i had a sierra nevada double debockel draft that was ok, but i didn't warm up to it. i always tend to lean toward unusual sierra drafts when i see them out of loyalty to sierra (and anchor) being the original mass marketed craft beers that were reliably good.
April 29, 200916 yr Beers I've had in the past few weeks: Flying Dog's Tripel - Had this one last night. The aroma was sweet, I picked out a honey scent. Flavor was good. Sweet at first, then bitter. You can definitely taste the alcohol. Flying Dog's Imperial Porter - Holy God, this is a manly beer. It's as thick as syrup, dark as sin and is probably one of the most complex beers I've ever had. It's super, super smoky and I swear, I could taste barbacue sauce. This is definitely not one to sit down and pound one after the other. Flying Dog's IPA - Good IPA. It was crisp, probably more crisp than I would've expected. And very citrusy. Definitely a good summer IPA. St. Peter's IPA - Great beer. It's lighter than I thought it'd be, citrusy and hoppy. I could drink it all day. St. Peter's English Ale - Another great one. This had a really limey scent and like the IPA, was light. More of a malty backbone and creamy finish. Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale - One of my new favorite beers, hands down. Where has this been all my life?? Super smooth, sweet, nutty, caramely. Excellent beer. I really could drink this all day. Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout - Another great one from SS. This one was more carbonated than I thought it'd be, but I liked that. Like most oatmeal stouts, it starts off almost sour, and finishes nice and creamy. Rogue's Dry Hopped St. Rogue Red Ale - This was really good and actually pretty complex. The scent is really grassy, which made me kind of nervous, since I don't dig grassy beers. But the taste was totally different. Like a red ale, it was very smooth and it also had a really sweet, taste. I tasted caramel. It was delicious. Bluegrass Brewing Company's Dark Star Porter - Disgusting. Tasted nothing like a porter. It actually tasted exactly like the steamed peas they used to serve us in grade scool. It was hard to finish the glass. Goose Island's Oatmeal Stout - Not nearly as good as Sammy Smith's, but still good. Sour first taste, creamy finish. Great beer for the price. Bell's Two Hearted Ale - Another new favorite. One of the best IPA's (or American Pale Ale) I've ever had. So crisp and hoppy. God, is it hoppy. And with a nice citrusy flavor. Excellent beer. Bell's Best Brown Ale - I was surprised, as this tasted nothing like I though it would. It actually tasted more like a lager to me. Very carbonated and very...well, lagery. Not bad, though. Bell's Special Double Cream Stout - This was good. Very malty, creamy and smooth. The cream aftertaste hits you pretty hard and I liked that. Bell's Oberon - Great summer beer. It's a Belgian wheat ale, and like most of that style, it's light and crisp with citrusy hops and a good malty backbone. I sat out on my balcony and enjoyed the breeze with this one. Tanners Jack Ale - A good beer, but with the clear bottle, it was a bt skunky by the time it made it over to the States. This is why most imports come in brown or at least green bottles. Anyway, this one was good, and had a smooth, sweet, taste, with a bit of caramel. I know I'm forgetting some...
June 21, 200915 yr Grammer's should be praised for carrying so many Cincinnati recipes. I had a Burger, a Little Kings, and a Hudy Delight yesterday, after the OTR 5K. I call it the Cincinnati Sampler. $1 Burger at Grammer's, just so you know.

I call it the Cincinnati Sampler. $1 Burger at Grammer's, just so you know. ah now this is news i could use. i never have much time in cinci so its good to know you can get a classic old bar and a just as classic old cheep local brew sampler all in one place. very good! ps -- i was in a belgian beer bar recently and chatted with the duvel rep about a new brew they are rolling out called duvel green. its the same as duvel except less alcohol, so its basically duvel light. might be good for hot weather when you would normally avoid the heavy belgians. more: http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/1550862
June 22, 200915 yr My keg runs Goose Island 312 right now, it's a really fantastic wheat. I'm also drinking some beers that a friend brought down from Chicago. New Belgium's Sunshine, Mothership Wit, and Fat Tire. Fat Tire is probably my favorite beer, although possibly because i don't get to have it often. I'm hoping that will change, as i understand that New Belgium now has a distribution deal in Indiana. I think New Belgium and New Holland are my favorite breweries.
June 22, 200915 yr Burger Beer - http://thephonyconey.blogspot.com/2009/06/have-you-ever-licked-moldy-tree-bark.html I'm in NYC, and I'm really missing the $5.99 12 packs of Bürger... Although I did save room in my truck for cases of Little Kings, Moerlein, and Hudy Delight.

June 23, 200915 yr I am definitely going to have to check that out. I've heard rumors of such a place in the past..
June 23, 200915 yr 50,000 Busch Beer cans in Cincinnati: http://thephonyconey.blogspot.com/2009/06/50000-busch-beer-cans.html
June 25, 200915 yr a nice nytimes article about how restaurants and even craft beer bars are slow to pair good food with the beer, but that is changing: THE POUR A Beer, Please, and a (Good) Menu http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/24/dining/reviews/24pour.html?_r=1&ref=dining
June 25, 200915 yr ^ This is good news. I personally hate wine, and prefer a fine beer paired with a dinner over wine any day. I've had friends and family over for dinner before, and get crazily surprised looks on their faces when I pop a cork and pour a beer into a chalice or tulip glass.. The Party Source in Newport, KY often has beer tastings/cooking demonstrations that pair fine beer with foods. I've caught a few and definately recommend it to anyone interested in this.
July 24, 200915 yr Does anyone know the reason why Yuengling isnt sold in Ohio? Me and some pals were talking the other week about it and some said that there is something in Yuenglings distributing contract that doesnt allow them to ship to Ohio, but no one knew if that was actually true or not. Its a shame we cant get it here because it is one of my all time favorite beers, along with any Great Lakes beer, Newcastle, and Tenants.

Thanks for the explanation, maybe ill have to start making trips to Youngstown and stock up on Yuengling, and sell enough of it to friends to break even on gas expenses.
