November 6, 200816 yr Thanks! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 6, 200816 yr Centennial looks nice, the Fall colors are wonderful and #13 probably my favorite. Thanks.
November 6, 200816 yr I lived on the 4th floor of Verder for my first 4 years there. I moved to the 2nd floor of Johnson Hall (were the rear walls saved, or did they build new walls to look like the originals?) for the 5th. The memorial parking spaces in the Taylor/Prentice parking lot were installed either the year before, or the year of my graduation. Some joked that it was considerate of those 4 who died to fall so neatly into a parking space. (When one's studio is in the center of the memorial site, and one is confronted with it on a daily basis for 4-5 years, one develops an irreverent sense of humor about it. :|)
November 6, 200816 yr Centennial looks nice, the Fall colors are wonderful and #13 probably my favorite. Thanks. I agree on Centennial; The view in #2 will get better and better as the young trees get some growth on them.
November 6, 200816 yr Hopefully I will be in Centennial next year! JRC - Where you an architecture student? My uncle (he graduated from Kent's architecture program) thinks that the memorial spaces are over doing it and a waste of space.
November 6, 200816 yr Wow that was a lot of memories - lived on the 10th floor of Leebrick for a semester, then moved off-campus. And then I think of how many late nights were spent in Taylor Hall getting the Stater out on time. Thanks for the pics! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
November 6, 200816 yr I never thought much of Kent while growing up in the area. We would go to the bars while in high school, but never considered attending, esp after 1970. My daughter loved it there, and we were all happy with the education she received. This is her diploma which we had to send back before they would issue a new one with correct spelling! I guess I didn't get my money's worth!!
November 6, 200816 yr Kent State didn't happen to be primarily constructed in the 60s/70s, was it? Pretty utilitarian architecture.
November 8, 200816 yr I was over at crappy College Towers but I had mostly good memories of Kent. I knew a girl at one of those dorms... I'm thinking it was Koonce... :| Now I'm thinking she lived off campus.
November 8, 200816 yr Love me some Kent State! It always seemed a curious mix of "classic college" and an urban one at the same time.
November 9, 200816 yr nice work. william schroeder, one of the kent state students who were murdered, lived like a block down the street from us. i know i was taken to the funeral, but i was too little and don't remember it. the funeral home had to put speakers outside for the massive crowds in the streets. that always was a very sad & angry topic for our neighborhood. i'm not sure if their names are on the vietnam memorial in dc, but they should be (ditto the jackson state students who were murdered soon after). :|
