November 6, 200816 yr Dayton's Arcade is just amazing. Almost as amazing as this Wympee. Thanks for the photos ink.
November 6, 200816 yr Good stuff! Looks like that was a terrible fire that destroyed two good houses.
November 6, 200816 yr Thanks for a fantastic set, Ink. I had to look again to make sure this was Dayton as many of these I'm seeing for the first time. I especially appreciate the Victorians, I didn't know Dayton had some many interesting examples.
November 6, 200816 yr Dayton does have some hidden treasures in her older hoods. What a mind blowing housing stock!!!!
November 7, 200816 yr THanks! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 25, 200816 yr Just for an interesting note: The house you posted that is burnt down is in my neighborhood. I remember the night it burnt to the ground, and you could smell the char in the air for a few days afterwards. Speculation was that it was an Arson, as it had been abandoned for quite a long period of time. There are a number of Arsons in that area of late, and on July 4th a similar event occured on 3rd St. near the Chase Bank, resulting in two houses going up in flames.
February 22, 200916 yr I loved all the pictures! I grew up in Dayton and went to Stivers, one of the pics. What memories it brought back. :-D
August 19, 200915 yr Great shots but would love to know the names and/or locations of some of these places. I know many of them but some I don't as in I don't know what neighborhood they are located in or what street they are on. Mostly the houses.
August 19, 200915 yr ^The homes are almost all in Huffman, St. Anne's Hill, and Wright Dunbar. If you specifically reference pictures, I can specify.
August 20, 200915 yr Is the Arcade not shuttered? How'd you get those? The Arcade is often open during the day while work is going on inside. I had lunch inside last week, actually.
August 24, 200915 yr Is the Arcade not shuttered? How'd you get those? The Arcade is often open during the day while work is going on inside. I had lunch inside last week, actually. I need to get over there. Haven't been inside the Arcade in decades. Almost 30 years ago, I wrote an article on Ohio's then-seven glass-roofed arcades (which, alas, was not published). Dayton's arcade rotunda is unique.
