Thank you to those who currently serve, and who previously served our armed forces.

WW II vet held in Nazi slave camp breaks silence: 'Let it be known'

By Wayne Drash, Thelma Gutierrez and Sara Weisfeldt, CNN, November 11, 2008

LOMA LINDA, California (CNN) -- Anthony Acevedo thumbs through the worn, yellowed pages of his diary emblazoned with the words "A Wartime Log" on its cover. It's a catalog of deaths and atrocities he says were carried out on U.S. soldiers held by Nazis at a slave labor camp during World War II -- a largely forgotten legacy of the war.

Seicer, you should create a poll to see how many Vets are on UO and from which branch.

I joined the Army Reserves back in 2001 prior to Sept. 11th.  Other than being active duty for training(Jul-Oct 2001) I have never been activated.  Because of that I am not considered a verteran.  Kinda odd but it doesn't bother me a bit.

There is a chance I can be called up until May 30th, 2009, but I no longer have to go to Reserve drill one weekend a month.

Air Force

Well, I'm not a veteran either - just finished training last month:

...but I voted for the Army anyway!

Way to go Ethan and all the vets!

Army.

I signed up because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do when I grew up. I still haven't grown up, but 6 years, and 2 deployments to the desert later, I know for sure one profession that don't want to do anymore.

Even then, you could see the beginnings of my understated fabulousness!

You've certainly led a full life.  Honey, you should write your memoirs!

I can't publish until after a couple of people are dead. For one of them, I can hardly wait! :shoot:

Here's a title "Sweet and Innocent - The Life and Times of Rob P."

In memory of my maternal grandfather, John E. Baumgartner (1880-1941).

He served in the US Navy 1901-1905.

He's seated on the left in the photo.
