Posted November 12, 200816 yr I'm just wondering if there are any car rental companies that currently offer hybrids. I'd like to drive to a few small towns in the region for fun, but I absolutely refuse to use a regular auto. No interest here to pollute anymore than is needed, joyrides and all. Carpooling is fine, but I'd definitely like to see if this option is available.
November 12, 200816 yr Both Hertz and Avis have Priuses (Prii?), and Altima Hybrids, but good luck finding one in Ohio... we had a Prius last time in Vegas.

I think they are more readily available in larger cities airport locations
November 12, 200816 yr I rented a Prius at Hertz in the Cleveland airport in September. I think the airport locations are the best bet.
November 12, 200816 yr Yes the airport locations seem to be the best as far as types of cars/selection etc. I got a Prius for my last drive back to Cleveland from the Alamo at National Airport, but they often dont have them, so you need to check for specific locations and days.
November 12, 200816 yr It appears that I'll have no luck here in Cincinnati. I may have to wait a couple years.

Funny, because as a hybrid owner I can tell you that a lot of compact cars emit lower emissions than hybrids do. It all depends on your technique which takes a little while to develop. Certainly can't be learned on a rental timeframe.
November 13, 200816 yr ^You drive a hybrid SUV. That's like a crack addict just adding a little more baking soda.
November 13, 200816 yr ^You drive a hybrid SUV. That's like a crack addict just adding a little more baking soda. ^Classic LMAO! BTW Blueline you can get a Prius from Enterprise as well. Got one down in Tampa last year and averaged just over 50 MPG, very cool.
November 13, 200816 yr Well, I checked Hertz's website as well as Alamo's digs. The Prius didn't show up on any of my searches...unless they have different availability through their phone service. And to answer the comment about emissions, I'm after fewer emissions as well as efficiency. Additionally, the only way I'll ever own an automobile again is if older models may someday be retrofitted for electric power. Of course, living in Cincy and mooching off coal power, nothing's entirely efficient.
November 20, 200816 yr we got a prius at hertz at akron-canton airport last summer. they said they always have them. it was my first time driving one. we drove all around ohio for almost a week visiting the relatives on one tank of gas, it was awesome. definately rent one sometime and give it a tryout.

That is great. Although attempting to start it up the first few times is maddening!
November 20, 200816 yr You may get lucky at one of the local places too. My dad rented a Prius from the Enterprise location in Beavercreek (Dayton suburb) about a year ago. Sounds like your best bet is to call the location you wish to rent from and go from there.
