My dear friends and family,

Somewhat embarrassing to admit but Christmas will be tight this year. I will be making bedroom slippers for you all as gifts. Please let me know your sizes. You'll most likely agree that it's a splendid idea, and should you wish to do the same, I've included the instructions below.

How to make bedroom slippers out of maxi pads:

You need four maxi pads to make a pair.

Two of them get laid out flat, for the foot part.

The other two wrap around the toe area to form the top.

Tape or glue each side of the top pieces to the bottom of the foot part.

Decorate the tops with whatever you desire, silk flowers (this is most

aesthetically appealing), etc.

These slippers are:

* Soft and Hygienic

* Non-slip grip strips on the soles

* Built in deodorant feature keeps feet smelling fresh

* No more bending over to mop up spills

* Disposable and biodegradable

* Environmentally safe

* Three convenient sizes: (1.) Regular, (2.) Light and (3.) Get out the Sand Bags.

I've attached a photo of the first pair I made so that you can see the

nifty slippers for yourself....

Awaiting your response. It's crucial that I get the right size for each

one of you.

City Christmas tree loses its top

The Milwaukee city/county Christmas tree came down early this morning in Bay View, but not without a little bit of trouble when the top snapped off as it was being loaded onto a Department of Public Works truck.

As Yolanda Alvarez and her family, who had first attempted to donate the 45-foot tree four years ago, watched in disbelief, city employees assured them that it could be fixed, braced and ready for next week's lighting ceremony.

"The tree itself had a lot of stress on it up at the top," said Joe Wilson, executive director of Greening Milwaukee. "When it was coming down it hit another branch, and that just kind of compounded the weight. It's still an exciting tree."

The family was relieved to know it could be fixed.

"My mother's wish was always to see it lit up," Alvarez said.

Her parents, Gilberto and Virginia Alverio, watched with other neighbors in the 3400 block of S. Iowa St. about 6:30 a.m. as trucks prepared to haul the tree to Red Arrow Park downtown, where it will be decorated early next week.

The official tree lighting ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20.

First, however, it will make a trip over the Hoan Bridge this morning on the journey downtown.

"This is going to be really nice. It's going to be awesome," Alvarez said in anticipation of the tree lighting.

Apparently they tried to use DUCT TAPE to fix it, and then they went with cellophane.

I'll take a maxi-pad slipper. Can you dye mine a nice brown color so that it matches my hardwood floors and earth-tone decor?

Thanks.

Thanks!! I laughed till I cried!
