I went to the Bookloft one day and I snapped a few photos!

Nice pics. Book loft is great. Anyone on here who hasn't been there needs to go there. There's like 32 rooms and you basically go through a maze to reach the end.

German Village has the nicest, friendliest people I've ever seen. I love that neighborhood. Strangers will say hi to you on the streets and in the park.

Yeah I agree, I bought my German and French Verb practice books there! My ex (4th pic) from Dallas was in town, and so I wanted to show him German Village, my home parish (St. Marys) and the bookloft, which he loved! He wasn't as impressed with our Capital Building though. He thought the one in Austin was better. Naturally I disagreed, but I'm biased I guess being from the Capital City!

I continue to defend the Ohio Statehouse against the detractors who try to compare it with the Beaux Arts-inspired buildings that most states have now.

The Ohio Statehouse is much older than most of the others; its cornerstone was laid in 1839 and it was essentially completed in the late 1850s, before the Civil War, when Greek Revival was very much in style. Although there were arguments over the design during the long period of its construction, and many changes while it was in progress, it stands an outstanding example of what a lot of states thoughtlessly discarded decades ago.

I've been in the Texas State Capitol in Austin, and I think it's a beautiful, elegant building in its own right.

As historic architecture, though, the Ohio Statehouse beats it hands down.

Thanks!

If not my favorite then one of my favorite neighborhoods in Ohio.  German Village is just uber fantastic.

Thanks!

No problem bud!

I second that! I just love the area and the beautiful homes and narrow, quaint streets! Now if only I could afford to live there!

Seriously, the rent is not that bad depending on what you're looking for. Housing prices are a little steep but if you're looking to rent in columbus compare gv to any of the other villages, short north ,or large burbs and you will find some great deals for what you are getting.

Right like i said, buying a house is steep but for renting its actually fairly reasonable for what you are getting. It also depends on the location. The majority of my friends pay on the average of around 850 to 900 for 2-3 bedrooms. I have a friend who lives in schumaker place 5-6 blocks from where that house is that pays 600 for pretty much an identical house on the outside. Not as many amenities on the inside.I'm just saying compare that to something in dublin or powell for rent and you have pretty much the same prices for a much better area.

Well it entirely depends on how nice the property is. For that price, in the suburbs, you would probably get a place with nicer amenities (inside the apt). German Village has more neighborhood amenities. To rent a newly renovated bungalow your friend would probably be paying 1500 for a 2bdroom.

your exactly right. my whole point is that you can find good properties in the village for a variety of budgets not just high priced. The majority of my friends live in german village,as do i and we certainly aren't high rollers. I just think sometimes people just see the price tags on city park or beck street and get scared away from moving here.

City Park is probably the nicest street in the whole city IMO - well, maybe a tie with Neil ave.

Hey - do you (or anyone else) know where I can look up the demographics of neighborhoods in Columbus (particularly German Village)? Social explorer is too much of a hassel. I hate selecting census tracts and all that.

Yes, nice pics. I gotta say that the Book Loft is one of the top two or three things I miss from my 11 years in Columbus..went there often, especially this time of year. Wish there was something like it in Cleveland.

Thanks all, glad you like them! =-0)
