I was in the process of writing a memo.

2009 Merit Pool   We have allocated a 2009 salary merit pool of 3%, one percentage point less than the 2008 pool.  Merit increases are intended to keep pace with trends in the general market and are a means to ensure that we continue to offer a competitive package of compensation and benefits to our employees.  TW has a long history of prudent, thoughtful cost management.  It is that process that allows us to avoid doing anything precipitous despite the unprecedented level of layoffs and closures in other businesses.  Those of you who were here in 2004, (when I arrived and I reorganized the creative and communications departments) might recall we enacted a 3% merit pool at a time when the market was witnessing the deflating dot-com bubble.  We grew through that period, and I have every reason to believe we will do so again. It’s also very important that we take the time to reflect on our extraordinary successes this year.  What is equally exciting is that we have one of the richest development slates in our history, promising wonderful new shows for the coming year and beyond.  In the next few weeks, I’ll share more details about all of our business activities.  In addition to the significant achievements of this year, TW is well positioned for future growth.  It is for this reason that we will continue to find ways to celebrate, including joining together at our holiday parties next month. TW continues to be a very special place, and in this troubled economic environment, we all have even more to be thankful for – including working together at this great company.  I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with friends and family. ------- Also, please call HB and let her know I can’t make lunch but we could meet when I’m in LA.  Let her pick the location and make sure she knows TMZ will not follow!

The Last King of Scotland is not about Scotland at all, but instead chronicles the quirky relationship between brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin and a young Scottish doctor.

It follows Nicholas Garrigan, an adventurous Scottish medical school graduate who decides that, being adventurous and all, going to work in Uganda in a missionary clinic might be a good time. He is mistaken.

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- - John Hamilton of Sandusky says he was inspired by news reports of the Toledo mayor cutting grass around that city on his day off. As John rode around his own home town he tells FOX 8 News he couldn't help but notice tall grass around vacant homes and in the city's Parks, and with spare time of his own felt he could do something positive.

On Thursday morning it bothered him seeing children waiting for a school bus at Central park, where the grass was more than a foot high. So he went to a shop he shares with his brother, got his riding mower and set out to make the park look better. ...
