Posted November 25, 200816 yr Okay, I know I'm a dork for saying this, but I love SimCity. Here's one of the Cities (Konigsburg) I built. 1. The shrine of the Blessed Virgin 6. The Memorial Church of Wilhelm der Grosse (Left) and the Church of the Holy Family (Right) on Frankfurt Platz 7. Downtown 8. Schloss Konigsburg 9. St. James Church 10. Wilhelm Strasse and KDW Department Store. 11. Potsdam Platz 12. Kaiser Platz and Konigsburg Station 13. St. Paul Chuch on Humbolt Platz 14. Schloss Platz and the Berlin Gate 15. Charlotten Platz (Left) Friedrich IV Memorial Stadium (Center) Hanawalt Platz (Right) 16. Chuch of St Michael and Victria-Louise Platz 17. Church of St. Joseph and St. Jude
November 25, 200816 yr Where are the parking lots? Just kidding. I enjoyed SimCity when I used to play it.
November 25, 200816 yr Where are the parking lots? Just kidding. I enjoyed SimCity when I used to play it. LOL I know eh? LOL I put a subway stop on EVERY corner, built a train station and built a S-Bahn system.
November 25, 200816 yr Holy crap I love simcity. I can disappear for days at a time playing a 1995 version on playstation one.
November 25, 200816 yr Just the other day I busted out SimCity for the first time in well over a year. So much for that workday. I've enjoyed it since the old days. It's always been fun trying to make great cities, but I'm pretty bad at it.
November 25, 200816 yr Looks like someone hit up simtropolis hard. I haven't opened the game in 4 years. In fact I lent the game to someone last summer. However, I'm making buildings for the game and I've started modeling the German Village in Columbus as well as many blocks of buildings in Harlem.

LOL And when you are finished with the GV buildings, let me know!!! I'd love to use them in my next city! =-0)
November 25, 200816 yr Ahh German German Village. It can be immitated but not duplicated! I don't care how hard you guys try! I like your city layout. Those nimbys can go to hell if they're worried that those skyscrapers trump their small houses. I like the courtyards..it reminds me of my travels to Hyde Park-London (in google earth).
November 25, 200816 yr OOO I like this thread :) I will have to post some of the cities I currently have saved although some of mine have the modified transportation system add on's among other things but it looks sweet. However if you like simcity games don't try simsociety because it was a complete let down and I kind of expected it before I bought it but it was even worse than I expected. Oh btw richNcincy how does Cities Xl actually compare to the simcity games? I looked at the site and the concept seems the same but is it more in depth than the Sim City series? Either way it seems like it will be a great game and the online aspect is intriguing as well.
November 25, 200816 yr Well I don't think I've hit the expansions and add ons like you all but I was honestly pretty let down by the game and really other games like it. The system for success becomes pretty automatic and I get bored.

Yeah, I was going for a German/European look! I used Berlin, Dresden, and Konigsburg, as my inspiration! In Berlin, many of the blocks (Mietskaserne) had courtyards in the middle, sometimes dozens of them!
November 25, 200816 yr Ahh German German Village. It can be immitated but not duplicated! I don't care how hard you guys try! Actually.......The buildings are being replicated brick for brick, and they will be placed in the game as large city blocks, so the density will be similar to the actual village.

November 25, 200816 yr I just picked up the first one on SNES. I haven't gone into the save area to see how crappy (or good) the cities that were made by the previous owner are.
November 25, 200816 yr I haven't played in a while. Been waiting for the Mac version as well. I still have the printout of my first city from the original SimCity I played on my ex father-in-law's Macintosh.
November 25, 200816 yr I'm jealous. I used to play this a while ago. Once law school started and the kids started being birthed, I've had no time. As a gift last year, my wife suggested SimCity. I said that it is bad idea--SimCity was my crack. Once I get on it, I don't leave it alone for 5-7 hours. It would make me a bad husband and father if I started playing again.

I play SC4 a lot or at least use to until I began to have so many issues with the game running slowly or crashing. Probably on account of all the custom content I've downloaded. Yet, I still always am looking for more. There really isn't that much Ohio stuff you can download for it. If I was more savvy at that sort of thing I would love to do some Cincinnati things. Chadoh, could you maybe post your zoning and/or transportation map for your city? Sure! I will do it after work!

OMG, I thought I was the only one! When I first got it, I stayed up all night playing it and had to skip class that morning because I hadn't slept yet! LOL
November 25, 200816 yr I've never been able to get into SC 4, my cities didn't come out the way i wanted them too! Probably just don't have enough patience. I still play SC 3 occasionally, and of course 2000. Never played the original either.
November 25, 200816 yr SC4 is much more enjoyable if you have the Rush Hour expansion pack. I love to play SC4 and plan to do so when I get home for Thanksgiving Break. lol
November 25, 200816 yr I used to also play CeasarII, which was based on a Roman city. You had to build a water supply, sanitation, and preferably, a wall.
November 25, 200816 yr I remember Ceasar!! I had a demo of it a loooong time ago. It was a pretty fun game.

LOL I'm another who is easily addicted to this game. I recently started playing again, and have managed to maintain a healthy relationship with the game so far. But, my cities aren't very pretty.
November 26, 200816 yr Berlin is the administrative Capital of my Region while Konigsburg is the site of the Imperial Residence. Its sort of like Paris and Versailles! Enjoy!
November 26, 200816 yr I like when cities fuse different grid patterns together. Like downtown Pittsburgh or lower Manhattan. Does SimCity give you that kind of flexibility?
November 26, 200816 yr It can, and you can create whatever shaped blocks you like, even circular ones. But with buildings it heavily relies on custom content. Remember that the game provides you a base version with what you can create. That means no buildings on angles, unless you download all the expansions off websites such as simtropolis. People are developing buildings, including ones in real life, that sit at angles on the grid. Some create trapezoidal shapes so it can get real interesting. I have a model of a triangular shaped warehouse I plan to upload to ST very soon that can be placed on a triangle shaped block. Basically, if you know how to use 3d programs like sketchup or 3ds max, you can make whatever type of buildings you want for the game. Looking at Chadoh21's city above, I'd say about 80% of that is custom content. So if you were to buy the game, you could not build a city like Chadoh21's, because you have not taken the time to download the custom content. You can sit for days and probably download every building on Simtropolis for free, or obtain a DVD by donating $20 I think. Since time is money, I'd prefer just donating.

Most of whats on there I got from the CD (which was well worth the $20) I have and of course extensive visits to Simtropolis! I was there last night downloading new churchs and buildings from Poland. Unfortunately, there aren't enough buildings from Germany and the Warsaw buildings are as close as I can find! Although I did download the new German Police Station! LOL Clearly I have to much time on my hands! lol My next city is Leipzig and I will upload "progress photos when I'm back from break! Happy Thanksgiving ya'll!!!
December 1, 200816 yr Prefabricated cities lol Not true! LOL Only the "monumental" part is, like around the Cathedral and Palace!
December 5, 200816 yr That's really what we're doing on this website. We're playing, with and against each other, a very slow version of Simcity that's real. Several large cities at once, and we need that rail system. C'mon, income... By the way, we're in the Detroit scenario.
December 17, 200816 yr So, I'm working on a columbus based region. How are those German Village houses coming? There are practically no columbus pieces to download at simtropolis, so my region is not very realistic. Some streets are correct and all I have done is Downtown, German Village, Short North (Very Unrealistic, I'm missing Avenues 1-4 for example), and lastly, the OSU/Fairgrounds/Crew Stadium area between Downtown, 71, Olentangy River/315, and Hudson Street. Any suggestions on how to make it realistic using sim city? Thanks and anybody that wants to make me some skyscrapers in columbus, feel free.
December 17, 200816 yr Wish I could help, but Simtroplis seems to be devoid of all things Ohio! Usually if I'm looking for something I REALLY want or need, I literally go through it bit by bit! It takes forever but I usually get what I want! =-0) Sorry I couldn't help ya further.
December 17, 200816 yr Sets usually take 2 years to construct, so you might want to work on the rest of the region first lol.
December 18, 200816 yr Hey thanks. Did not know it took that long to build sets. Tonight I am working on Easton/Airport area.
December 18, 200816 yr Is this SC4 or the newer "Societies" one? I haven't played in years... for the same reason as 3231. First, it was grad school, now, it's the wife and kid. Ironically, the wife likes the game. She's the one who bought it for me!
December 19, 200816 yr SC4. I've never played the new societies game but I've heard very poor reviews of it!
June 20, 200915 yr Cities XL has a beta version out. I have several extra keys to activate it if anyone is interested.
