Went down to the lighting of the Christmas tree at Fountain Square tonight, was a good time. Took my friend Ali, glad I had some company.

Had to shoot at 1600 ISO the whole time, but I think it all turned out ok.

-A bridge crossing over 5th street near the square. Seems Cincinnati has removed most of these "sky walks." There was a great article in the Enquirer a few years back about them.

-Sheree Paello of Channel 5 and Jeff Thomas of Q102 with a scrawny Santa Claus. Look closely at Santa, any idea who he is?

-It's Nick f*****g Lachey! You may not like his singing, but he's a Bearcat's fan and as dumb as his ex wife was, she certainly was hot!

-I couldn't believe how many people were there tonight and how much fun it was. My best memory of the holidays downtown was going to see the miniature trains with my dad. I hope tonight was really special for all the kids who were there.

-Kids ice skating. The line for ice skating was ridiculous.

They really put on a great event at the square, and if you're looking for something to do with your girlfriend/signifigant other/wife/whatever or your family I highly recommend heading downtown. It really is a good time. More on my blog at www.queencitydisco.com

Thanks for reading!

Great shots.  We were their, and you captured the event well.

Great times! The square was packed.

Great pictures!  I saw Nick at the airport earlier in the evening so I knew where he was going.

You must be new to town lol. He comes to Cincinnati all the time and that other member of 98 Degrees Justin Jeffre ran for mayor and owns a bunch of properties in Clifton. I think he's from Finneytown. Nick is from College Hill. Him being in Cincy shouldn't be surprising. He's always there for Reds opening day, too :)

Oh, and you gotta love and appreciate Nick's ex wife Jessica. So much of that nice divorce settlement he got is going towards charities in Cincinnati institutions

Nick does so much for Cincinnati - it's incredible. Then, when they interview him on local tv and stuff he acts really humble about it. It's too bad Sarah Jessica Parker is the total opposite, after going to SCPA too.

oh and btw, great pics. Thanks for sharing. I wish I could have went :( I'll go next year for sure.

awesome pics, the square looks great!

A festive time! Ice rinks rule for getting people downtown.

No truer words have been spoken!

People hate on this kid all of the time, but he does so much for this city, it's unbelievable. I actually think he's a booster more than us sometimes. God bless Lachey!

These are awesome. I just got through leaving the gym in the Carew Tower and DT is slammed again, tonight.

We've really turner/turning the corner with DT, imo.

Great pics and thanks for posting. Man, you and Rob_1412 have the same style with photography (i.e it's good!).

True.  A lot of celebrities from this area try to pretend they're not from Cincinnati.  Nick does seem to do a lot.

It was great to see so many people at the tree lighting.

Amazing event.  It really felt first class (aside from the technical difficulties with some of the microphones).  My 2 year old nephew loved the fireworks the most, followed closely by the light up snowman that we bought him off a vendor.

The ice rink looks magnificent, the tree look first-class and Downtown looks amazing as always.  Thanks for the pics Ronny, they turned out great.

i was looking forward to this -- beautiful.

except i have to say the last shot err, bummed me out. i'm not a fan of homeless photos.  :|

Thanks for the compliments guys, and yes I did know Lachey was from Cincinnati before the other night. I actually met him once while working at Kings Island.

I agree Rando, the event was very well done, fountain square is really becoming a happening place. There is also a Chipotle down there now! (Although as I found out while trying to eat lunch there yesterday, it's not open till Dec. 5th.)

When I worked at KI one summer I got to meet Lil' Bow Wow.  At that time he was a bit too afraid to ride the King Kobra roller coaster (stand-up) which is no longer there.  What a wimp!

Rando, did you work on the Kin Cobra crew? If so, what years?

Awesome!

I worked the Wild Thornberry's River Adventure log flume ride in 2003 (I think).  I was a ride manager and was cross-trained all over the park so I often was moved to other rides when they needed help.  I probably worked on about 75% of the rides there during that summer.

Cool photos.

Also, Kings Island.... heh. I bet you can figure out which location I managed in 2003 (plus two others). What a wonderfully rainy season.

Ah, Trader Jake, I believe we have talked before over on KICentral.com

Nice!

Nice pics!

Are there any other X-mas decorations other than the lighted trees?

Our skywalk system is awesome. I really wish we could use all of them. I have tried to follow those maps of the skywalks downtown but they're always blocked!

Yeah it seems the skywalk is kind of 'abandoned.' Hmmm....Seicer? Adventure soon!

I think the problem is that they are barely used. They have been dubbed "sky walks to nowhere" and required maintenance on them them is rendered a waste of money. It seems like having sky walks connecting large hotels to a retail mall would ensure success of said mall, but it hasn't. Sky walks were a "wave of the future" fad, along with corbusier style towers and the interstate highway system. In theory I think they're great; in the winter people would rather be in a climate controlled environment instead of walking outside. There is some controversy over them however, as they tend to kill street life and disfranchise businesses operating in storefronts that you enter from the street level. Through skywalks, public funds were used to favor specific private corporations whose vitality is not guaranteed.

Highly likely. I haven't commented on kicentral in recent times. The young'uns are too preoccupied speculating on the tales of the Dippin' Dots guy it seems sometimes, and working at the place really takes the magic away from the place. That said, I love the photos of Dimondback now that I live closer to Kings Dominion than Kings Island.

I don't think the city has officially taken on a proactive policy of removing these skywalks, but they are about as close to that as humanly possible.  They've torn down several over the past couple of years and the Design Review Board consistently voices their opposition to skywalks.  These things are a thing of the past.  I would expect more to be removed over coming years.
