"There's that word again, 'Heavy'. Why are things so heavy in the future.. is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?!"

(Marty McFly travels to 1955)

Marty: "Yeah, gimme a Pepsi-free"

Man behind the counter: "Look, if you want a Pepsi pal, you're gonna have to pay for it".

I too would rather forget most of the 80s.  I liked the 70s way better.

Yeah, the 70's were fun!!!  Fashion was fabulous, disco's were all the rage and music was "music".

I said fashionMontgomery Wards and Fashion do not belong in the same sentence.

However, "get up and boogie" is hot even today!

^^Looks alright to me.

Say what you will, but 70s fashion was the last shot at originality for decades.

And what were parachute pants? Eh? What about day-glo neon sweatshirts hung saucily off one shoulder?? Awful, that's what (and yet, I found those sweatshirts maddeningly hot (on the ladies that is) just the same)  :bang:

Flashdance and Madonna were 80s no doubt.

Isn't this the decade most of these whippersnappers were born?  http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,12304.0.html

The decade was a mess to live thru, do we really want to rehash it here on UO?   :evil

I was born in 1990. :) I think I am one of the youngest (if not the youngest) forum members. However, my baby pictures display some horrible remnants of 80's fashion.

:wtf:

ha ha....that's funny. We were/wuz po'! I didn't grow up in Shaker Heights  (we weren't wearing Halston in Painesville  :wtf:) But re your statement that Montgomery Ward wasn't fashion, this is true; but the stuff that the masses/Middle America wears is ultimately derived from what the top designers are doing (however tacky looking and cheap), isn't it? The stuff that Uniqlo, H&M & Gap push is based on what's hot in the higher end stores from the most trendy designers. At least that's how I thought it worked. But don't go by me, I've been wearing the same black fleece scarf from Old Navy (on sale for $5.00) and black Dickies work jacket for three years now--probably a grand total investment of $45.00. Oh, I forgot about the Adidas I just got on sale from Century 21 for $39.50! That said, I don't think most people would regard the 70's as a high point for fashion.

I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings.

I've always liked those kind of high heels too. You know, I...

No no no no, don't take 'em off, don't take... Leave 'em on, leave 'em on.

Yeah, that's it, a little more to the right, a little more....

Ev'rybody wants some.

I want some too.

There is NOTHING not hot about that, but it's nothing that folks weren't imagining beats looked like in the early 60s.

MTS don't act like you didn't have the red jacket from "beat it".

No I didn't.  But I did have several members only jackets.

It sounds like most of us that came of age in the 80's would rather forget the decade save a handful of fun memories. What is funny is the fashion industry has tried to bring back that ugly $hit for the last 15 years and has mostly failed. For what ever reason nearly every style introduced in the 80's was very unflattering on me. From preppy, to strait leg pants, hats, teased hair, heavy eyeliner, metallic clothing, you name it, none of it looked good. Sadly, I spent some very formative years in that most oppressive, tacky, decade.

When I was little I told the barber to give me a "MacGuyver"

They worked with my, Sergio Valente, Sassoon, Calvin Klein (when I wore Calvin Klein) & Guess jeans.

I've been fashionable since '79.  Learn it, honey!

and to think i just wore Levi's shrink to fit 501 Bluuuuueeessss with my Polo and Izod shirts.

Levi's?  Oh my god. You poor thing.

Hey!  That was very fashionable in Oklahoma at the time.  I just couldn't bear to buy a pair of parachute pants.  I just stuck with the Levi's button-flys.

OH---I also thought I was straight then..LOL  That could be another reason I wore the Levi's.

I wanted parachute pants, but I was so skinny.  It wasn't a good look.

Please don't tell me you had handkerchiefs in your back pockets.

No....nor did i wear them around my leg pant like many of the guys at my school.  If those guys knew about hanky codes, I guarantee they wouldn't have thought it was so cool.  YELLOW????

come on MTS, after the Sergio's, Gloria's and Calvin's came the Levis. Those pants were a necessary part of the transition from 70's /early 80's to the horrible bowels of the mid 80's. They were better than Tough Skins or Wrangler.

Thats why I was asking.  LMAO!!

Gold was a "size queen" IIRC.  I would watch out for those with Black, Green, Dark Green, Pink or Yellow!  Anyone with a yellow hanky, I was like...girl you're just nasty!

All I know is I thought I looked pretty cute in my Levi's, Topsiders, and Coca-Cola Shirt while wearing my swatch watch.

I can't even say the words "tough skins".  ugh!   LOL

I think Diesel came before the "update" of the Levi's brand.  Levi's got a boost when the Gap expanded and carried their merchandise and paired with the Tshirt.  Remember the 31 flavors of Tshirts campaign?  I remember when the only Gap store in Cleveland was at Severance.  Now that was a good mall. Halle's, Higbee's and good clothing stores.

Brand whores were born in the 80's!!

All this talk about Oklahoma and the eighties is making me want to go watch the movie "Sordid Lives".  I could really relate to Ty in that movie.

The tagline is "A black comedy about white-trash".  Takes place in Texas--which was awfully close to me.

You just lost princess points by saying you never saw it.  Next you'll tell me you have never seen "Steel Magnolias".

No.  I never saw it.  I just vaguely remembered the commercial. Dixie Carter and Delta Burke were in this I think and one of the towns people from Too Wong Foo.

Of course I saw SM.

Delta Burke, Olivia Newton-John, Beth Grant with Leslie Jordan (Karen's friend Beverly Leslie from Will and Grace) as Brother Boy---the brother forced into a mental institution for thinking his life calling was to carry on the legacy of Miss Tammy Wynnette.

I used to have the #1 '80s site on Yahoo search back in the late '90s (there weren't that many back then). I haven't fooled with it in about 5 years, but here it is: http://www.geocities.com/gcrites80s/

The 5 main '80s pages ('80s TV, '80s Music etc.) are fun, but the rest are funner. Oh, and if I come across as a punk, remember that I was like 20 when I did most of it.

Now I will saw, 80's tV had some high points (who did not have a crush on that hick Bo Duke?)....and some terrible lows. I would not even know where to begin

Okay, I did not see one women in your interesting ass eighties pic of the week and a half that had mall bangs.  I don't know what it was, but my sister and all her friends would use a curling iron on their bangs and spray hairspray until their bangs stood five inches from their head and could cut you like a knife.

Oooh, the "Puffball". I didn't think of that. That one lasted through the early '90s.
