December 12, 200816 yr I forgot about this Vanessa Williams the first BLACK Miss America and Suzette Charles the runner up! I LIVE for Ms. Vanessa Williams. She's fierce!!! SU alum! Unfortunately she 'left' about 6 years before I got there. I did graduate the same year as Taye Diggs, although I didn't learn that until about 3 years ago when there was an update about him in the alumni newsletter.

December 13, 200816 yr I am glad Vanessa Williams lost her crown after that Playboy spread. If she hadn't of made that mistake, we might not of know her as the villianous Wilhemina (sp?) Slater today.

Slater today. True. But if it wasn't for her Kiss of the Spider Woman would have died a quick death on b'way. Granted I love every single shady second of her on Ugly Betty. She's girl after my own heart.

December 19, 200816 yr Being a teenager in the 80's pretty much sucked. When I saw this trailer for The Wrestler. I remember how popular that fake wrestling was. I got caught up in it. I can't believe it's still going. I preferred the 90s.

As your penance you are required to identify no fewer than 20 of these singers. Bonus points of you can pinpoint the minute and second of Kenny Loggins' line.

Lionel Ritchie Stevie Wonder Paul Simon Kenny Rogers Tina Turner Billy Joel Diana Ross Willie Nelson Bruce Springsteen Michael Jackson Huey Lewis (I'm actually a big fan) Bob Dylan (blasphemy? Meh.. I really like the song "Hurricane", that's about it) Cyndi Lauper That's about all I recognize I like my generation's version better :-D (minus Ja Rule)
December 19, 200816 yr There comes a time when we heed a certain call (Lionel Richie) When the world must come together as one (Lionel Richie & Stevie Wonder) There are people dying (Stevie Wonder) Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life (Paul Simon) The greatest gift of all (Paul Simon/Kenny Rogers) We can't go on pretending day by day (Kenny Rogers) That someone, somehow will soon make a change (James Ingram) We're all a part of God's great big family (Tina Turner) And the truth (Billy Joel) You know love is all we need (Tina Turner/Billy Joel) ( CHORUS ) We are the world, we are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day so let's start giving (Michael Jackson) There's a choice we're making we're saving our own lives (Diana Ross) It's true we'll make a better day just you and me (Michael Jackson/Diana Ross) Well, send'em you your heart so they know that someone cares (Dionne Warwick) And their lives will be stronger and free (Dionne Warwick/Willie Nelson) As God has shown us by turning stone to bread (Willie Nelson) And so we all must lend a helping hand (Al Jurreau) ( REPEAT CHORUS ) We are the world, we are the children (Bruce Springsteen) We are the ones who make a brighter day so let's start giving (Kenny Logins) There's a choice we're making we're saving our own lives (Steve Perry) It's true we'll make a better day just you and me (Daryl Hall) When you're down and out there seems no hope at all (Michael Jackson) But if you just believe there's no way we can fall (Huey Lewis) Well, well, well, let's realize that a change can only come (Cyndi Lauper) When we (Kim Carnes) stand together as one (Kim Carnes/Cyndi Lauper/Huey Lewis) (REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE ) (additional ad-lib vox by Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, James Ingram) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Canadians:
December 19, 200816 yr Tina Turner looks like a tranny in the WATW video! Bob Dylan (blasphemy? Meh.. I really like the song "Hurricane", that's about it) Btw, the reason I don't like Bob Dylan that much is because I can't stand his vocals. He's a good lyricist/poet but I can't stand the way he sings. He's a terrible singer. He's no Elvis or Johnny Cash by any means. Hurricane is one of my favorite songs though.
December 20, 200816 yr Two great cultural touchstones of the 80’s, and why I have never, ever been able to take either Tom Hanks or George Clooney seriously as actors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIZ7ACvfwds&hl=en&fs=1 http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
