Posted December 24, 200816 yr Photographs from a recent adventure to finally find the CL&N RR tunnel and determine if it was used to film a scene from the film "Ghostbusters 2." Just about a month ago we spent nearly an hour trying to find the tunnel bordering I-71 that is 1/3 of a mile long: Only to find: This very short tunnel instead. AHA! -Boots are needed. After visiting the tunnel I am even more enthusiastic about hopefully light rail coming to Cincinnati. Thanks to Seicer, who has shown me the unused CL&N line, it has become apparent just how easily Cincinnati could have light rail. -An abandoned overpass the rail line once used that is above Victory Parkway. So did they film Ghostbusters here? You'll have to read the full article at www.queencitydisco.com to find out. The rest of the day was spent walking into abandoned buildings, finding scrap thieves, running away from them, and playing under the Big Mac Bridge: Thanks for checking them out and don't forget to visit www.queencitydisco.com']Queen City Discovery[/url]. For those of you celebrating Christmas enjoy the rest of Christmas Eve and have a great Christmas Day. For those of you currently celebrating Chanukah - have a good one! And for anyone else: May you have a pleasant day during whatever holiday you observe. -Some caller on 700 WLW today.

December 25, 200816 yr Woah! I love these types of tours. Isn't there a tunnel that used in Cincinnati to exist a few years ago parallel to the freeway but was covered on one end by a park? I want to check that out too.
December 25, 200816 yr I think you are referring to the incomplete Deer Creek Tunnel, which was to be 10,000 feet in length but was never completed.
December 25, 200816 yr This is a jaw-dropping photo. Thanks for these and one day Cincinnati will have light rail and streetcars. We just gotta keep on working. We'll get there.
December 25, 200816 yr You know what would actually be pretty cool is if someone could map out where all of these tunnels actually are. A comprehensive map showing the tunnels for the never completed subway, the Deer Creek tunnel Sherman mentioned, this, and any others would be very cool.

December 26, 200816 yr Nice to see the rest of the tunnel-great pics! Looks like the Burger King must have lost his crown on the way through. So you ran into scrap thieves? As cheap as scrap is now they're more vandals than thieves. You should have turned their bu*ts in if you caught them in the act, unless they were waving guns at you. The late 1800's were the heyday of the "underground" tunnel movement and I bet there are far more tunnels around the old parts of town than many today even realize. A lot of illegal activity back then was literally conducted underground. During the 1900's (alcohol) Prohibition, tunnels between buildings were avidly used by bookleg moonshine runners and distributors to avoid the watchful eyes of the Feds and local police. Some of them still survive today mainly as service tunnels for utilities and such.
December 27, 200816 yr Thanks everyone for the compliments and response, we're trying for one more tunnel and a few other places in the coming weeks before I go back to school. This is a jaw-dropping photo. Thanks for these and one day Cincinnati will have light rail and streetcars. We just gotta keep on working. We'll get there. Rando, glad you love the photo and I agree, thanks to the tunnels and remnants of the CL&N RR we may one day just see light rail. P.S. EXCELLENT post on Urban Cincy today about the opposition to the streetcars, I will post a link to you to try and help bolster some more support. Nice to see the rest of the tunnel-great pics! Well, I would have loved to have turned them in, there was just one slight problem.....we weren't really supposed to be there either. A lot of the stuff we explore is "technically'' owned by someone else and ''technically trespassing.'' It would have been an awkward call with the police. Gordon: "Yes officer, there is someone stealing scrap at such and such address in the back." Officer: "Ok, do you own the property?" Gordon: "Uh, well, no, I was just trespassing to take photographs." :)

Besides, scavengers seem to be minor blips on the police radar screen, even if caught and booked they will go right back to scavenging as soon as they are out again on the street. Many are homeless, drug-addicted, or mentally challenged. (or even all 3) They do a lot of damage to vacant buildings, however.
December 28, 200816 yr ^No disprespect but can you think about changing your screen name? It's confusing when 2 active posters have almost the same identical screen name.
