Posted December 29, 200816 yr I was hoping to see what people will remember about 2008, also, what they would like to forget, if you are so inclined. I will have fond memories of flying out to Las Vegas for work. It was so tough, but I loved it! Working an 80 hour week with time and a half overtime totally kicked butt. Eating at the Balagio for an appreciation dinner on the company dime of course and catching the Cirque du Soliel production 'Ka' was pretty amazing as well! Something I will remember fondly and can't believe I have not seen any news outlet recall it, was the earthquake this year! How awesome was that to experience something so rare here in Ohio first hand!? It's just unfortunate that it happened so early in the day and it was what woke me up that morning. Of course, who could forget that historical election of Obama! Still get excited about that and can't wait until he takes the oath of office. Who's with me in saying that day cannot come soon enough! Am I right!? About the only thing I would like to forget is being laid off from work and the poor economy. Come to think of it, that is the worst that has happened to me, so I guess it's good that I have a lot more fond memories than bad ones. Here's to a bright and happy 2009! Cheers everyone! PS, is anyone doing anything for New Years Eve this year. My family doesn't really celebrate it so much, I'm looking for something fun and exciting to do.
December 29, 200816 yr Yeah, I think the economy and the election are both huge for me, both for interconnected reasons, I think. My hope is that Obama will turn things around, but all these corporate bailouts scare the shit out of me. 2008 was otherwise a pretty unremarkable year for me, I think.
December 29, 200816 yr Black President. That's about it. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 29, 200816 yr I got to go to NYC and even though it was for work, I managed to fit in some really fun personal stuff too and really enjoyed the trip. Plus the meeting I organized there was at an absolutely gorgeous hotel, and even though I didn't get to stay on property during the meeting, it was great being there. I also got in some really memorable/nice outside trips including canoeing and hikes and picnics. I also didn't:* - get cancer - get a brain tumor - have a perforated ulcer - fall off a ladder and crack my skull - fall off a ladder and smash up all my teeth - have to have hammertoe surgery, which then got infected and had to have some of my toe cut out - have to quit driving because I can't see because my diabetes is so bad now - have to quit my teaching job and forego having a child because I am going blind from macular degeneration *all things that happened to members of mr. rockandroller's family this year.

December 29, 200816 yr ^That can be a part of '2009 A Retrospective' Hopefully things will turn around and you won't lose your job. If so, go ahead and start preparing those resumes!
December 29, 200816 yr I won a fanny pack in a raffle. Was that meant to be a good or a bad thing for 2008?

December 30, 200816 yr Bad 1. I graduated from OU. 2. Last six months of '08 sucked horribly. 3. Friend committed suicide in November, still have nightmares about it. 4. I went bankrupt in August. 5. Debt collectors coming after me for medical bills. 6. Family. 7. The holidays. 8. Moved in with dad out of desperation. 9. In and out of work, little to no hope in Toledo. 10. 95% of friends have already left the state. 11. No real job. 2008, BE OVER!!! :whip: I know how you can make 2008 end quicker
December 30, 200816 yr Lets see, 2008: Left my job of 20+ years in May due to encephalyitis and have not worked since Lost contact with my work friends...out of sight out of mind....heard from my office collegues exactly two times since May...ouch! Other offices in the company I hear from weekly. Was able to pursue a friendship in more depth and became more than friends! :-D Finances a total mess, but not alone in that area. Learned how to fight for benefits...only need two lawyers with two different specialties to help me get what I am entitled to by law!! Note to the healthy: DO NOT GET SICK!!! and no amount of planning will help...my long term disabilility insurance is fighting me like crazy! We are in our 5th round of appeals. Learned that friends do not always have your best interest at heart. I generally do not comment on the love interests of friends...everyone sure has an opinion on mine! :shoot: Have a love interest for the first time in years Lost 70+ pounds this year. That is a good thing. Didn't think I was a whale, but now am pretty thin, and I like it. Suffered a stroke in November. Not fun. Yet another set back to my recovery. Luckily not severe, but damn!!! What next?!?! Write two blogs and that keeps me pretty busy. Am converting the blogs to a website. So, although totally f##ked up from the illness, not all is lost. Met lots of interesting people this year when at a competition in Las Vegas. Talk to a few almost daily, from all over the globe. That was the highlight of my year. Fantastic! My intersts have changed greatly during the year, and am trying to get back to old habits. Looking forward to 2009. Can only be better!
December 30, 200816 yr I think that I had a pretty decent 2008. I was dumped about nine days ago from a relationship that lasted about 2.5 years. It won't really be easy to look past that to see how lucky I was this year. Eh, still I have a lot to be grateful for. I just never really saw this coming, at all, and so maybe '09 will bring good things but right now I don't know what I'm looking forward too. I still have to imagine the magnitude of this entire thing is relatively minuscule.
December 30, 200816 yr Honestly, I think a lot of us in Ohio have a had rough year. Here's to a better year in 2009! And MTS, I hope you don't lose your job. We need your insight for us whippersnappers! Please, the writing is on the wall, my boss told me to take a job in the new WH administration and he officially retired last week. I'm sure I'll be "asked" to resign within the year. I'll be fine, I'm more worried about my assistants and the office coordinators. They don't have contracts. My assistants are like my kids. One of my assistance is about to get married and the other just bought a condo with his partner. I'm more worried about their well being and financial stability.
December 30, 200816 yr Well I'm sure that the economy and the election are going the be the biggest historical events of 2008, but I'll never forget this as the year my son was born, and my father died.
December 30, 200816 yr The year began badly and ended horribly. I think most of us can agree 2008 was awful for Ohio, America, and perhaps most of the world.

January 1, 200916 yr Mine is a tad more positive. May 2008: Graduated from UK with a BS in Decison Science and Information Systems. Purchased a Nikon D3 to replace my outdated D70. June: Job interview with Xavier University. July: Started my job with Xavier as a web designer. Rented a loft in Over-the-Rhine.
