Self explanatory.  The only rule is that the film must have been released in 2008.  Mine:

1. WALL-E - Beautiful, uplifting, wonderous.  Hands down, my pick for best film of 2008.

2. Milk - Extremely well written, acted and directed.  A lot of biopics struggle with telling a cohesive story, feeling like a group of scenes edited together.  Not so, here.  Sean Penn, James Franco and Emile Hirsch were all flawless.

3. Iron Man - The most fun I had at the movies last year.  I might be a little biased being a hardcore comic book nerd, but Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark was perfect casting.  And the Iron Man armor looked better than I could have ever imagined.

4. The Dark Knight - Certainly the best Batman film of all time.  Obviously, Heath Ledger's Joker is attention getter (and rightfully so), but Gary Oldman's perfect performance as Jim Gordon shouldn't be overlooked.  Christopher Nolan nailed the epic scope of a city under siege.

5. Synecdoche, New York - Probably the most challenging film that I saw last year, but also one of the more rewarding ones.  Phillip Seymour-Hoffman's performance is brilliant, as is Charlie Kaufman's script about taking life's minutiae and literally making it larger than life.

6. Cloverfield - This did for monster movies what 28 Days Later did for zombie flicks.  This is also the only film I've ever watched that made me feel like I was about to have a heart attack.  Like, for real.

7. Pineapple Express - Definitely the funniest film of 2008.  I'm fairly certain I started laughing as soon as it started and didn't stop until it was over.  Seth Rogen was Seth Rogen, but it was James Franco who was surprisingly awesome as a sweet little stoner.

8. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - "Flawlessly adorable" is an accurate description.  Director Peter Sollett did a fantastic job at making NYC seem small and intimate.  Also, the one film to make me feel both younger and older at the same time.

9. Burn After Reading - I didn't understand the mixed reviews.  The movie I saw was hilarious, as evidenced by my several laugh out loud moments.  Malkovich is perfect as a guy who just gets increasingly more upset (and louder).

10. Slumdog Millionaire - Visually stunning, and emotionally evocative.  A little less sentiment, and this would higher on the list.

For as many movies as I feel like I see, there are always so many more that I don't (or haven't yet): Rachel Getting Married, Wendy and Lucy, Stop-Loss, The Wackness, Transsiberian, Boy A, Man on Wire, Frozen River, Body of Lies, Changeling, Doubt, What Doesn't Kill You, The Wrestler, Defiance and many, many more...

Yeah, in Hollywood, 2008 proved gay is the new retarded.

I haven't seen many movies in 2008, except for:

"Synecdoche, New York" - I hated much of this movie, and I'm a HUGE Charlie Kaufmann fan (sorry, Moonlight!). It was just .. TOO MUCH CHARLIE KAUFMANN. I never thought I would say that.

"Dark Knight" - I agree. The best Batman movie ever. And the best summer flick this year hands down, in my opinion.

"Iron Man" - It's a fun ride. I will be buying one of those suits as soon as I have millions of dollars to blow.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" - I would say that this movie would eke into my top 10 movie list for 2008. The almost three hour running time certainly feels like it, but it's definitely one of the more interesting story lines I've ever seen in a film. The performances are solid, and with David Fincher at the helm, how can you go wrong (oh, wait .. I forgot about Aliens 3. For shame!)?

Dark Knight was probably my favorite one. Worst would have to be "The Happening". Partly because the movie was boring and had no plot, but mostly because Mark Wahlberg can't ever say a line in a movie without sounding like he's completely out of breath.

Thank you.  The Happening was, by FAR, the worst film that I saw in 2008.

"Doesn't anyone care what happened to the honeybees?"

No, Mark.  No one cares.

No, Mark. No one cares.

I haven't seen "The Happening", but I would have to say that would be my response to the question: "Doesn't anyone care about what happens to M. Night Shyamalan?"

Not if he keeps making movies like The Happening, no.

Not if he keeps making movies like The Happening, no.

Yeah. Obviously, this is totally my opinion, so I apologize if I've offended any M Night fans.

"The Last Airbender" could actually be really cool. And he didn't write it. I think he needs to stay away from that because he's actually a fantastically talented director.

^I love your worst list! Pretty hilarious stuff.

Laughed-my-ass-off trash. :-D

When I first saw this thread, the movie that popped into my head was WALL-E. I'm glad other people feel the same way. I think that has to be one of the most beautiful movies of 2008.

i fell asleep on wall e.  I can only watch 10 min at a time.

Not if he keeps making movies like The Happening, no.

Remember when they ran into that house and Mark was talking to the indoor tree because they all thought it was nature causing the disaster and he wanted to talk to the plant to spread positive vibes - then he walked up closer and found out he was talking to a plastic plant? Friggin Oscar scene.

By Oscar you meant Razzie, right?

Umm I dunno if I can name ten, but I can do three! lol Valkyrie, Milk, and Ironman. The two worst ones, umm..... The Happening, The Dark Knight, and Cloverfield.

Has anyone seen "Man On Wire", "Gomorrah" or "The Counterfeiters" and can give me a review or recommendation? I might check those out.

Worst movie of '08 has to be Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It got a 2.4 out of 10 on imdb lol! I remember hearing about it being number 1 at the box office.
